통계학과에서 데이터베이스 교육은 필요한가\ulcorner 데이터베이스 교육이 필요하다면 그 교육 방안은 무엇인가\ulcorner 본 연구에서는 통계학과에서 데이터베이스 교육의 필요성에 대해 논의하고 구체 적 인 교육 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 본 논문의 목적은 어떻게 통계학이라는 학문과 연관지어 데이터베이스를 교육할 수 있을 것인가에 대해 생각해보고자 하는데 있다.

The statistics of monitoring on soil quality is a report statistics which is made on the basis of Article 15, Environment Strategy Basic Law and Article 5, Soil Environment Conservation Law. This study was conducted according to quality assessment of Korea National Statistical Office. The assessment of quality infrastructure advised that the authority bring up and increase completely responsible officer and secure the budget. The assessment of user satisfaction and reflection of request propose that the statistics is focused on soil background concentration, decrease soil sampling points and extend survey period. The assessment of error management system per processes of detailed preparation suggest change of the statistics objective, a reduction of sampling points and improvement of survey period and soil measurement properties. Accuracy assessment of data proposed cuts of sampling points, accessibility increment and build up of management system linking subordinates and Ministry of Environment. The substantiality assessment of data service demonstrated information environment improvement for users including reference expression and records of statistics table and figure contents.

A effective teaching method on correlation coefficient for elementary level statistics course is discussed in this article. The well known inequalities, such as Theorem 368 of Hardy et al. (1952), are used for the interpretation of concept of covariance. An Excel example is provided for the illustration of concept of correlation coefficient.

제한된 예산, 고가의 패키지 구독비, 출판사 주도의 라이선스 협상 등의 불리한 환경에서 자관의 실정에 맞는 전자저널을 구성하기 위해 도서관은 전자저널 이용데이터를 수집하고 분석해야 한다. 본 연구는 전자저널 이용통계 연구 동향 및 COUNTER 3판에 근거한 이용통계 제공 현황을 살펴보고 현장에서 쉽게 활용 가능한 이용통계 분석의 가이드라인을 제시하고자 하였다. 현재 제공되는 이용통계 보고서를 기반으로 분석할 수 있는 핵심 이용통계치로 저널별 원문이용도, 저널이용률, 원문이용단가, 고이용군, 저이용군을 제안함으로써 전자저널 관리를 위한 이용통계의 효과적인 활용 방안을 다루었다.

Kernel density estimation is a prevalent technique employed for nonparametric density estimation, enabling direct estimation from the data itself. This estimation involves two crucial elements: selection of the kernel function and the determination of the appropriate bandwidth. The selection of the bandwidth plays an important role in kernel density estimation, which has been developed over the past decade. A range of methods is available for selecting the bandwidth, including the plug-in bandwidth. In this article, the proposed plug-in bandwidth is introduced, which leverages shifted Chebyshev series-based approximation to determine the optimal bandwidth. Through a simulation study, the performance of the suggested bandwidth is analyzed to reveal its favorable performance across a wide range of distributions and sample sizes compared to alternative bandwidths. The proposed bandwidth is also applied for kernel density estimation on real dataset. The outcomes obtained from the proposed bandwidth indicate a favorable selection. Hence, this article serves as motivation to explore additional plug-in bandwidths that rely on function approximations utilizing alternative series expansions.

This article presents an independence test between pairs of interval censored failure times. The Mantel-Haenszel test is commonly applied to test the independence between two categorical variables accompanied with a strata variable. Hsu and Prentice (1996) applied a Mantel-Haenszel test to the sequence of 2 × 2 tables formed at the grids which are composed of failure times. In this article, due to unknown failure times, the suitable grid points should be determined and the status of failure and at risk are estimated at those grid points. We also consider a weighted test statistic to bring a more powerful test. Simulation studies are performed to evaluate the power of test statistics under finite samples. The method is applied to analyze two real data sets, mastitis data from milk cows and an age-related eye disease study.

With advancement of computer and network, world wide web(WWW) as a medium of information communication is generalized in many fields. In educational aspect, applications of WWW as alternative media for class teachings or printed matters are increasing. In this article, we demonstrate a web-based electronic text on the 'probability and statistics' which is one of six fields of mathematics in the 7th curriculum. This text places importance on comprehension of concepts of probability and statistics as an applied science.

우리나라 대학들은 최근에 여러 환경 변화의 소용돌이 속에 몸살을 않고 있다. 이러한 환경에서 통계학과는 과연 안전지대에 놓여 있는가\ulcorner 이러한 변화 속에서 살아남기 위한 자구적인 노력은 얼마나 존재했는가\ulcorner 본 연구는 통계학과의 현황과 문제점을 진단하고, 그 해결방안을 탐색해보는데 목적이 있다.

최근 국내에서 통계학 전공자들뿐만 아니라 일반인들도 읽을 수 있는 통계학 책이 많이 출판되는 현상은 대단히 반가운 일이다. 그 책들 가운데에는 국내 저자가 쓴 것보다는 번역서가 더 많은데, 번역도서의 양적인 팽창은 한편으로 그 책들이 번역되어야할 이유가 과연 무엇인가라는 질문을 비롯해서 번역의 질적인 면을 검토할 필요성도 제기한다. 이 글에서는 지난 2003년에 나온 번역서 네 권을 대상으로 그 책들에 담긴 색인과 참고문헌, 통계학 이론과 통계학 용어, 그리고 통계학의 역사에 대해 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 또한 그 책들을 소개하는 일간신문의 신간소개나 서평 기사들도 검토하였다. 결론적으로 이 글의 진단은 번역서들에서 보게 되는 많은 문제점들이 통계학과 거리가 먼 번역자들이 그 책을 옮겼기 때문에 생긴다는 것이다. 따라서 국내의 통계학 전문가들이 일반 대중을 위한 통계학 책의 필요성, 번역 작업이 갖는 의미, 번역할 책의 선택에 대해 좀더 활발하게 토론하고 무엇보다 직접 번역 작업에 참여할 필요가 있겠고, 나아가 일반 한국 사람을 대상으로 한국어로 된 훌륭한 통계학 책을 쓰는 작업에도 더 적극적일 필요가 있겠다.
