An identification method is proposed in order to detect more than one outlying cells in multi-way contingency tables. The iterative proportional fitting method is applied to get expected values of several suspected outlying cells. Since the proposed method uses minimal sufficient statistics under quasi log-linear models, expected counts of outlying cells could be estimated under any hierarchical log-linear models. This method is an extension of the backwards-stepping method of Simonoff(1988) and requires les iteration to identify outlying cells.

An essential aspect of music is structure. Beran (2004) introduced a method of comparing piano plays via circular statistics based on the fact that there is circular structure in music. We expand the application of this method to a pair of two pop songs and discuss the possibility of applying it to detecting musical plagiarism. Circular statistics provides an objective view point comparing the musical works.

In recent years, many people use R as a statistics system. R is frequently updated by many R project teams. We are interested in the method of multiple outlier detection and know that R is not supplied the method of multiple outlier detection. In this talk, we review these procedures for detecting multiple outliers and provide more efficient procedures combined with direct methods and indirect methods using R.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the low-flow statistics at the mountainous watershed. The formulation for the estimation of the design low-flow statistics was obtained by means of a hydraulic approach applied to a simple conceptual model for a mountainous watershed. Three of the independent variables associated with the low-flow statistics is watershed area(A), average basin slope(S) and the base flow recession constant(K); Watershed area was measured from topographic maps and average basin slope is approximated in this study using Strahler's slope determining method. And base flow recession constant computed using Vogel and Kroll's method. Unfortunately, this method is usually unavailable at ungaged sites. In this study, recession constant at ungaged sites is estimated using graphical regression method used by Giese and Mason. The model for estimating low-flow statistics were applied to all 61 catchments in the Sumjin, Mankyung basin.

This study compares two teaching methods in an introductory statistics course at a large state university. The first method is the traditional lecture-based approach. The second method implements a flipped classroom that incorporates the recommendations of the American Statistical Association's Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report. We compare these two methods, based on student performance, illustrate the procedures of the flipped pedagogy, and discuss the impact of aligning our course to current guidelines for teaching statistics at the college level. Results show that students in the flipped class performed better than students in traditional delivery. Student questionnaire responses also indicate that students in flipped delivery aligned with the GAISE recommendations have built a productive mindset in statistics.

This paper proposes a new generalized iterative method (SSOR-like method) for solving augmented system. A functional equation relating two involved parameters is obtained, and some convergence conditions for this method are derived. This paper generalizes some foregone results. Numerical examples show that, this method is efficient by suitable choices of the involved parameters.

전기화재는 전체 화재의 30% 이상을 차지하고 있지만 전기화재 통계의 신뢰성에 대한 검토가 제대로 이루어지지 못하였다. 전기화재는 원인분류 방법 또는 체계의 미흡으로 전기적 요인이 아닌 경우에도 전기화재로 분류되어 높은 점유율을 차지하게 되었고 그로 인한 전기화재 통계의 문제점이 제기되었다. 따라서 기존의 전기화재 원인 분류 방법의 개선을 통해 전기화재 통계의 신뢰성 확보가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 전기화재 원인분류에 따른 전기화재 조사 및 통계의 문제점을 분석하였고 새로운 전기화재 원인분류 방법을 제시하였다.

통계학을 좀 더 쉽게 이해하며 흥미를 가지고 접근할 수 있도록 하기 위해 다양한 통계교육 방법의 연구가 계속되어지고 있다. 그러나 동계교육에 있어서 항상 겪는 어려운 점 중의 하나는 학생들이 쉽게 받아들일 수 있는 실제 자료가 많지 않다는 것이다. 이는 학생들에게 통계학을 현실과 전혀 관계없는 학문으로 인식시키며 학습 의욕을 저하시키고 통계학을 재미없는 학문으로 인식하게 되는 부정적 결과를 낳게 하였다. 본 연구에서는 웹과 데이터베이스를 활용한 자료 수집 및 공유 프로그램을 활용하여 수업에서 현실감 있고 학생들과 관련이 높은 자료를 활용할 수 있도록 하고 엑셀을 활용하여 학생들이 통계학의 개념과 응용에 더 집중할 수 있는 통계교육 수업방안을 제안한다.

In this paper we propose a logistic regression method to estimate the survival function and the median survival time in interval-censored data. The proposed method is motivated by the data augmentation technique with no sacrifice in augmenting data. In addition, we develop a cross validation criterion to determine the size of data augmentation. We compare the proposed estimator with other existing methods such as the parametric method, the single point imputation method, and the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator through extensive numerical studies to show that the proposed estimator performs better than others in the sense of the mean squared error. An illustrative example based on a real data set is given.

As one of indirect ways to get an optimal answer for sensitive questions both lower and upper values are sometimes asked and collected. In this paper a statistical method is proposed to analyze this kind of data using graphics. This method could define each sample median and estimate an optimal value between lower and upper bounds. In particular we find that this method has similar explanations of an equilibrium price with demand and supply functions in Economics.
