Objective : The purpose of this study is to indicate of problems in statistical analysis method of "The Korean Journal of oriental Medical Prescription" and we will be proposed the useful application of the statistical analysis method. Methods : In this paper, we were analysed statistical analysis methodology from published journal articles "The Korean Journal of Oriental Medical Prescription" December, year 2000 to December, year 2008. We were investigated of problems in application of structured analysis methods those journal articles that including statistical analysis techniques and analysis methods. Results : 1. A random allocation of the experimental group and control groups are important factors in the planning process of statistical analysis. However, there are less explanation those journal articles. 2. There are no consideration in specimen size that there will be considerate by the level of significance and statistical test. 3. Many article authors were confused between parametric methods and non-parametric methods that they were applied parametric statistical analysis methods although inapplicable sample size. 4. There were applied the parametric methods consists of t-test instead non-parametric methods in the comparison of average intergroup relations. 5. There were less understanding posterior analysis and were confused with t-test. Conclusion : Our goal was to outline the key methods with a brief discussion of problems(statistical analysis methods), avenues for solutions. we recommend authors to use an appropriate statistical analysis methods for obtaining a more cautions results.
Background and Purpose : This study was to investigate statistical validities and trends of previously reported papers that used various statistical techniques such as t-test and analysis of variance. Methods : To analyze the statistical procedures, 38 original articles using those statistical methods were selected from Journal of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine(JKIOM) published from 2010 to 2012. Results : Analysis of variance and t-test were used in 20 papers (38.5%), 16 papers (30.8%) of 52 papers. Four articles(10.5%) did not report ${\alpha}$ values and nineteen papers(50.0%) of 38 ones were not tested for normal distribution. Five papers (13.2%) misused t-test and 3 papers (7.9%) did not carry out the multiple comparison. Conclusions : To improve the quality of JKIOM, The participation of statisticians in research design will reduce the significant errors in statistical interpretation of the results.
Objectives This study was to identify the types of errors in the statistical analysis and trends of previous reported papers that used various statistical techniques. Methods We have selected 118 original articles for statistical review from the OASIS(http://oasis.kiom.re.kr) and the Pubmed(http://www.pubmed.gov) in the field of Sasang constitutional medicine. Published year was restricted from 2011 to 2015.Results 1. The ANOVA(25.72%) was the statistic of choice overall, followed by the chi-square test(21.74%), regression analysis(14.13%), t-test(11.59%), and etc. 2. By examining the errors of the statistical methods, there were 42(59.2%) thesis with errors among 71 thesis using ANOVA, 19(31.7%) thesis among 60 thesis using chi-square test, and 35(89.7%) over 39 thesis using regression analysis. Conclusions To improve the quality of Sasang Constitution, the participation of statisticians in research design will reduce the significant errors in statistical interpretation of the results.
Background and Purpose: The purpose of this study was investigate statistical validities of previously reported articles that used various statistical techniques such as t-test and analysis of variance. Methods: To analyze the statistical procedures, 66 original articles using those statistical methods were selected from "Korean Journal of Oriental Medicine(KJOM)" published from 1995 to 2007. Results: Twenty-one articles(32%) did not report correct p-values, 33 articles(50%) used mean${\pm}$standard error(mean${\pm}$SE) and 11 articles(l7%) used mean${\pm}$standard deviation(mean${\pm}$SD). Fifty-two articles(95%) of 55 ones which were tested for normal distribution made an error in describing normal distribution. Seventeen articles misused t-test and 12 articles did not carry out the multiple comparison. Conclusions: The training of researchers with clinical statistics or the participation of statisticians in research design will reduce the significant errors in statistical interpretation of the results.
In this study, we aim to use big data resources and statistical analysis to obtain a reliable instruction to reach high-quality and high yield agricultural yields. In this regard, soil type data, raining and temperature data as well as wheat production in each year are collected for a specific region. Using statistical methodology, the acquired data was cleaned to remove incomplete and defective data. Afterwards, using several classification methods in machine learning we tried to distinguish between different factors and their influence on the final crop yields. Comparing the proposed models' prediction using statistical quantities correlation factor and mean squared error between predicted values of the crop yield and actual values the efficacy of machine learning methods is discussed. The results of the analysis show high accuracy of machine learning methods in the prediction of the crop yields. Moreover, it is indicated that the random forest (RF) classification approach provides best results among other classification methods utilized in this study.
Purpose: In nursing research, studies using statistical methods are required and have increased. In this study, some statistical methods using in nursing study are summarized and appropriate usage is proposed. Methods: Twenty-five original articles from the Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamentals Nursing were reviewed. Statistical methods used in the Journal of Fundamentals Nursing were classified and common errors were presented. Results: Seventy-six statistical analysis were performed in the 25 studies. Among the articles, 28 cases contained errors. Most errors occurred in linear regression analysis and nonparametric analysis. Conclusion: When the use of statistical method is applied inappropriately, the result bring out a serious error. In order to ensure reliability and validity of study, researchers should recognize clear application and usage of statistical methods.
This study is to review the road traffics and its process by the type of business in annual Statistical Yearbook of Transportation published under the supervision of Ministry of Transport, and the main purpose of this study is to find out an recommendations for the result of the review. For this purpose, this study surveyed and analyzed actual results and its output process in Statistical Yearbook by vehicle and business types. The local survey is performed for the nationwide 23 cities to produce passenger (ton) number and passenger (ton)-㎞ number by vehicle and business types. The result of the local survey is compared with the road traffics in Statistical Yearbook of Transpotation. The result of the survey analysis reveals that road traffic in Statistical Yearbook is produced formally and there is remarkable differences between road traffic in Statistical Yearbook and local survey output. Conclusively, statistical output process of road traffics must be improved to solve th se problems mentioned above in respect to system and technic. Also it is recommended to publish its own road traffic statistics (tentatively named Statistical Yearbook of Road Transportation) just like Statistical Yearbook of Railroad for user's expediency and practicality.
This study attempts to examine statistical tasks in the middle-school mathematics textbooks of Korea and Connected Mathematics 3 [CMP] of the US in terms of an opportunity-to-learn for statistical reasoning. We utilized an analytical framework consisting of types of context, statistical reasoning level, cognitive demand of the tasks, and types of student response. The findings from the task analysis suggested that Korean textbooks focused on finding answers by applying previously learned algorithms or formulas and thus provided students with very limited opportunities to experience statistical reasoning. Also, the results proposed that the mathematical tasks in statistics unit of CMP3 offer more essential and complex tasks that promote students' conceptual understanding of various statistical ideas and statistical reasoning in a meaningful way.
The article presents the statistical method of grouping the results of the compressive strength of concrete in continuous production. It describes the method of dividing the series of compressive strength results into batches of statistically stable strength parameters at specific time intervals, based on the standardized concept of "concrete family". The article presents the examples of calculations made for two series of concrete strength results, from which sets of decreased strength parameters were separated. When assessing the quality of concrete elements and concrete road surfaces, the principal issue is the control of the compressive strength parameters of concrete. Large quantities of concrete mix manufactured in a continuous way should be subject to continuous control. Standardized approach to assessing the concrete strength proves to be insufficient because it does not allow for the detection of subsets of the decreased strength results, which in turn makes it impossible to make adjustments to the concrete manufacturing process and to identify particular product or area on site with decreased concrete strength. In this article two independent methods of grouping the test results of concrete with statistically stable strength parameters were proposed, involving verification of statistical hypothesis based on statistical tests: Student's t-test and Mann - Whitney - U test.
Freund, Vail, and Ross, Goldberger and Jochems and Goldberger have given some results for the stepwise estimation of the parameters of a univariate regression model, D.G. Kabe gave similar results for a multivariate linear regression model. We give here alternative derivation of some results derived by D.G. Kabe.
