  • A test for a single outlier in multivariate regression with linear constraints on regression coefficients using a mean shift model is derived. It is shown that influential observations based on case-deletions in testing linear hypotheses are determined by two types of outliers that are mean shift outliers with or without linear constraints, An illustrative example is given.

  • The efforts of reflecting the system's uncertainties in design step have been made and robust optimization or reliability-based design optimization are examples of the most famous methodologies. In their formulation, the mean and standard deviation of a performance function and constraints expressed by probability conditions are involved. Therefore, it is essential to effectively and accurately calculate them and, in addition, the sensitivity results are required to obtain when the nonlinear programming is utilized during optimization process. We aim to obtain the new and efficient sensitivity formulation, which is based on integral form, on statistical moments such as the mean and standard deviation, and probability constraints. It does not require the additional functional calculation when statistical moments and failure or satisfaction probabilities are already obtained at a design point. Moreover, some numerical examples have been calculated and compared with the exact solution or the results of Monte Carlo Simulation method. The results seem to be very satisfactory.

  • Consider a linear model with n observations and k explanatory variables: (1)b $y=X\beta+u, u\simN(0,\sigma^2I_n)$. We assume that the model satisfies the ideal conditions. Consider the general linear constraints on regression coefficient vector: (2) $R\beta=r$, where R and r are known matrices of orders $q\timesk$ and q\times1$ respectively, and the rank of R is $qk+q$.

  • Time pressure and financial burden have been reported as the main constraints on leisure participation. The purpose of this study was to explore a typology of leisure constraints, investigate the characteristics of leisure constraint types, and analyze the differences in leisure participation by the types of leisure constraints for married employees. The data source for this research was the 2009 Time Use Survey conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office (KNSO). Married employees aged 20 to 59 years completed 13,476 time diaries (7,984 for male, 5,492 for female), which were analyzed using chi-square, cluster analysis, and ANOVA analysis. Leisure constraints were classified into five types in two categories, working time per week and personal income for both males and females respectively. The three types for both males and females were time-income constraints, income constraints, and general constraints, with an additional type for men, $time^+$-income constraints, and an additional type for women, time constraint. The most common type was general constraints, for both males and females. Each type was further differentiated by the following socio-economic variables: age, educational level, job type, and weekly day-off. The study found that participation in study, sports, and religious activities varied with the types of leisure constraints.

  • It is unpractical for the optimal design theory based on the given model and assumption to be applied to the real-world experimentation. Particularly, when the experimenter feels it necessary to consider multiple objectives in experimentation, its modified version of optimality criteria is indeed desired. The constrained optimal design is one of many methods developed in this context. But when the number of constraints exceeds two, there always exists a problem in specifying the lower limit for the efficiencies of the constraints because the “infeasible solution” issue arises very quickly. In this paper, we developed a sequential approach to tackle this problem assuming that all the constraints can be ranked in terms of importance. This approach has been applied to the polynomial regression model.

  • A simple and efficient algorithm is introduced for generalized least squares estimation under nonnegativity constraints in the components of the parameter vector. This algorithm gives the exact solution to the estimation problem within a finite number of pivot operations. Besides an illustrative example, an empirical study is conducted for investigating the performance of the proposed algorithm. This study indicates that most of problems are solved in a few iterations, and the number of iterations required for optimal solution increases linearly to the size of the problem. Finally, we will discuss the applicability of the proposed algorithm extensively to the estimation problem having a more general set of linear inequality constraints.

  • When designing a test set, we need to consider constraints on items that are deemed important by item developers or test specialists. The constraints are essentially on the components of the test domain or abilities relevant to a given test set. And so if the test domain could be represented in a more refined form, test construction would be made in a more efficient way. We assume that relationships among task abilities are representable by a causal model and that the item response theory (IRT) is not fully available for them. In such a case we can not apply traditional item selection methods that are based on the IRT. In this paper, we use entropy as an uncertainty measure for making inferences on task abilities and developed an optimal item selection algorithm which reduces most the entropy of task abilities when items are selected from an item pool.

  • We investigate the constraints on the matter density ${\Omega}m$ and the cosmological constant ${\Omega}{\Lambda}$ using the gravitational lensed QSO (Quasi Stellar Object) systems from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) by analyzing the distribution of image separation. The main sample consists of 16 QSO lens systems with measured source and lens redshifts. We use a lensing probability that is simply defined by the gaussian distribution. We perform the curvature test and the constraints on the cosmological parameters as the statistical tests. The statistical tests have considered well-defined selection effects and adopt parameter of velocity dispersion function. We also applied the same analysis to Monte-Carlo generated mock gravitational lens samples to assess the accuracy and limit of our approach. As the results of these statistical tests, we find that only the excessively positively curved universe (${\Omega}m+{\Omega}{\Lambda}$ > 1) are rejected at 95% confidence level. However, if the informations of the galaxy as play a lens are measured accurately, we confirm that the gravitational lensing statistics would be the most powerful tool.
