A Study on Fault Detection Monitoring and Diagnosis System of CNG Stations based on Principal Component Analysis(PCA) (주성분분석(PCA) 기법에 기반한 CNG 충전소의 이상감지 모니터링 및 진단 시스템 연구)

  • In this study, we suggest a system to build the monitoring model for compressed natural gas (CNG) stations, operated in only non-stationary modes, and perform the real-time monitoring and the abnormality diagnosis using principal component analysis (PCA) that is suitable for processing large amounts of multi-dimensional data among multivariate statistical analysis methods. We build the model by the calculation of the new characteristic variables, called as the major components, finding the factors representing the trend of process operation, or a combination of variables among 7 pressure sensor data and 5 temperature sensor data collected from a CNG station at every second. The real-time monitoring is performed reflecting the data of process operation measured in real-time against the built model. As a result of conducting the test of monitoring in order to improve the accuracy of the system and verification, all data in the normal operation were distinguished as normal. The cause of abnormality could be refined, when abnormality was detected successfully, by tracking the variables out of the score plot.

A Study on the Distribution and Composition of Floating Debris in the Coast of Korea II. Transport of Debris in Middle Part of Southern Sea (연안어장의 부유성 폐기물 분포와 조성에 관한 연구 II. 남해 중부해역의 폐기물 수송)

  • Floating debris was recorded from a training ship, $\sharp$1 Kwanaksan, of Pukyong National University with about 10 knots speed at July 15th and 20th of 1997. The sampled area is the middle of southern sea of Korea, divided into 44 unit segments on survey routes. Debris fabrication materials were categorized with 6 items using the following; man-made or natural wood items, paper and cardboard, nylon netting and rope, styrofoam, plastics, floating metal and glass containers. All identified items within a 100 $\pm$ 2 m wide band were recorded but ignored if beyond this boundary. The results of distribution and transport of floating debris in the area are as follows: 1. The quantities of debris during the survey were distributed from $1.6\~369.7\;items/km^2$. The most obvious trend is the widespread distribution of all debris. The highest densities of all debris were discovered in the coastal waters of Namhae and Yokji island, and of about 50 km off from the southward of Yokji and about 74 km off from the eastward of Komun island. Especially many of small styrofoams within $\phi$20 cm were observed in these segments. 2. Styrofoams and plastics were composed of $83.5\%$ among all debris, next woods items, $9.8\%$. 3. The quantities, distribution shapes and composition of debris were varied as the observed duration and the natures of each items. 4. These phenomena are concluded that firstly they depend on the river discharges included debris due to precipitation falls, secondly inflow or dumping debris are drifting to the off-shore by Kuroshio currents present at their adjacent sea, But on the basis of the observed data it is difficult that source position, quantities and inflow items of debris are identified, and also the transport processes is pursue. further more surveys are continuously being investigated, and from this it is hoped that a much wider coverage can be achieved, perhaps on all sites of the Coast of Korea and contributed to the stationary area, finding of sources, removal method of debris and resistants of marine productivity.

  • Recently, as the fine dust is increased and the emission regulations of diesel engines have been tightened, interest in diesel soot filtration devices has rapidly increased. There is specifically a demand for the technological development of higher diesel exhaust gas after-treatment device efficiency. As part of this, many studies were conducted to increase exhaust gas treatment efficiency by improving the flow uniformity of the exhaust gas in the diesel particulate filter (DPF) and reducing the pressure drop between the inlet and the outlet of DPF. In this study, the effects of pressure drop by the flow rate and temperature of exhaust gas, DPF I/O ratio, Ash, and PM amount in diesel reduction device were simulated via a 12" diameter DPF and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) using ANSYS Fluent. As the flow rate and temperature decreased, the pressure drop decreased, whereas the PM amount affected the pressure drop more than the ash amount and the pressure drop was lower in anisotropic DPF than isotropic DPF. In the case of DPF flow uniformity, it was constant regardless of the various variables of DPF. In ESC and ETC conditions, the filtration efficiency for PM was similar regardless of anisotropic and isotropic DPF, but the filtration efficiency for PN (particle number) was higher in anisotropic DPF than isotropic DPF.

Distribution Characteristics of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Soils in Jeju City of Jeju Island, Korea (제주시 토양 중 다환방향족탄화수소류(PAHs)의 분포 특성)

  • Sixteen soil samples around six areas (residental area, traffic area, power plant area, incineration area and factory area) where the stationary and mobile sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are estimated to be emitted in Jeju City, were collected during Feburuary to March, 2004, and analyzed for 16 PAHs recommended by US EPA as primary pollutants to investigate their distribution characteristics. The concentrations of total PAHs (t-PAHs) and total carcinogenic PAHs $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ in soils of Jeju City were in the range of $21.7\sim264.2ng/g$ on a dry weight basis with a mean value of 87.2 ng/g and $6.3\sim118.0ng/g$ with a mean value of 33.4 ng/g, respectively. The concentrations of t-PAHs were low in comparison with those in soils of other domestic and foreign countries. The mean concentrations of t-PAHs and $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ with area decreased in the following sequences: traffic area> incineration area > factory area > power generation area > harbor area enli residental area. The correlation between t-PAHs and $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ were very high $(\gamma^2=0.9701)$, indicating that $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ concentration increases in proportion with t-PAHs. Comparing the distribution ratio of ring PAHs with area among 16 PAHs, it decreased in the order of 4-ring > 5-ring > 6-ring > 3-ring > 2-ring in all the areas except for harbor area. whitens for harbor area it was similar among 3-, 4- and 5-ring with high value. Low and no correlations between t-PAHs and soil compositions (organic matter content and particle size distribution) were observed, which is considered to be caused by the complex factors, such as the loading and characteristics of PAHs and diverse soil environment change, etc. From the examination of the three PAH origin indices, such as LMW/HMW (low molecular weight $2\sim3$ ring PAHs over high molecular weight $4\sim6$ ring PAHs), phenanthrene/anthracene ratio and fluoranthene/pyrene ratio, it can be concluded that the soil PAH contaminations were ascribed to strong pyrogenic origin in ail areas except for harbor area and to both pyrogenic and petrogenic origins.

The Distribution Characteristics of Floating Debris on the Cruising Routes from Cheju Island to Qindao Harbor in the Yellow Sea (한국 제주도와 중국 청도의 항로상에 부유하는 해양폐기물의 분포에 관한 연구)

The sampled area is the Yellow Sea (YS) connected from Cheju Is. of Korea to Qindao harbor of China, divided into 88 unit segments on survey routes. Debris fabrication materials were categorized with 6 items using the following; man-made or natural wood items, paper and cardboard, nylon netting and rope, styrofoams, vinyl and plastics, floating metal and glass containers. All identified items within a $120{\pm}20m$ wide band were recorded but ignored if beyond this boundary. The results of distribution of floating debris in the area are as follows: 1. The greatest quantities of marine debris discovered during the survey were $184pieces\;per\;km^2$ near Qindao harbor. The next polluted areas, Sohuksan islands, positioned in the eastern part of YS were scattered in about $40pieces/km^2$ or so. 2. Among items, woods, paper and cardboard, vinyl and plastics were found out near Qindao Coast of China. On the other hand, there were many styrofoams, nylon netting and rope near the area of Sohuksan islands in the eastern part of YS. 3. The distribution densities of western part of YS near Qindao are varied with largely range in items and quantities but those of the eastern part, near Sohuksan islands were nearly constant. 4. Styrofoams were composed of 63% among all debris in YS, next paper and cardboard 15%, and wood item, vinyl and plastics each 10%. Therefore, marine debris of YS is revealed that distribution characteristics and composition are very different in each area. These phenomena are concluded that they largely depend on the life styles in land and the utilities of the sea. And of items, styrofoams is dominated by the distribution pattern of YS. Furthermore, surveys are continuously being investigated, and from this it is hoped that a much wider coverage can be achieved, perhaps all sites of the YS and contributed to the finding sources, the stationary area and removal method of debris joined the flow patterns.

  • In this study, a heat dissipation measurement system is developed to analyze a 1.2-kW BLDC motor. It is important to check the temperature of the motor because an increase in temperature causes problems in the motor insulations, which in turn influences the motor life. A generator for a vehicle is installed to set up a load. We changed the load from 165 to 495 W. While the rpm varies from 2000 to 4000 under various load conditions, the changes in temperature were measured for the operating period by using a thermocouple. The results of experiments conducted under natural convection conditions suggest that the temperature was not stationary with the rpm, load, and coil of the motor and it kept increasing over $120^{\circ}C$. However, under forced convection conditions, the temperature stationarily reached $84^{\circ}C$ after 4000 s. The difference between the maximum and the minimum temperatures was $10-26^{\circ}C$ with an increase in the rpm and load. The orders of high temperature were as follows: motor coil (Ch#1), side of motor surface (Ch#5), inside of motor cap (Ch#2), upper side of motor surface (Ch#4), and inner wall of the motor (Ch#3).

Paleomagnetism and Radiometric Age of Trachytes in Jeju Island, Korea (한국(韓國), 제주도(濟州島)에 산출(産出)하는 조면암류(粗面岩類)의 고지자기(古地磁氣) 및 절대연령(絶對年齡)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • The geology of the Jeju island is characterized by the occurrence of thick voluminous basaltic lava flows and minor trachytic lavas. The land form can be divided topographically into the lava plateau, the shield-shaped Halla volcanic edifice and the parasitic cones whose number is more than 360, which is closely related to the cyclic volcanism of the island. Especially, the trachytic lavas seem to be the latest differentiation products of the cyclic activities and largely classified into two groups (Backlokdam group and Sanbangsan group) on the basis of the occurrence and the petrography. The paleomagnetism and the radiometric age on the two groups of trachyte suggest a lower and an upper time limits of the volcanic stratigraphy of the island. An average age of the trachyte of the Sanbangsan group is $0.733{\pm}0.056m.y.$, and is correlated to a horizon a little lower than the boundary (0.69m.y.) between the Brunches normal epoch and Matuyama reversed epoch. An average age of $0.025{\pm}0.008m.y.$ determined from the Backlokdam trachyte may be corrected to anyone horizon of the Laschamp, or the Lake Biwa, or the Lake Mono excursion. The two groups of trachytes are distributed with the latitude difference of 9'($0.15^{\circ}$), and with age difference of about 0.71 m.y. Assuming that the two trachyte groups were erupted from the same stationary hot spot, the lithosphere comprising the Jeju island is considered to have moved southward with a rate of about 2.3 cm/year.

  • There is general agreement that global warming is occurring and that the main contributor to this probably is the buildup of green house gasses, GHG, in the atmosphere. Two main contributors are the utilization of fossil fuels and the deforestation of many regions of the world. The burning of fossil fuels increases atmospheric carbon while the burning of fuel-wood reducing fossil fuel consumption along with its forest source maintain an atmospheric carbon level. The standing timber in the forests is a carbon sink, as are wood buildings and structures, and fossil fuel in the ground. This paper is designed to examine a number of current issues related to mitigating the global warming problem through forestry. For this purpose, we develop a modeling approach by integrating timber market, fossil fuel market and carbon cycling model. We use discrete time optimal control theory to identify optimal time paths, the laws of motion, and stationary stats solutions of endogenous variables in the model. On the basis of these results, we identify the optimal amounts of subsidies to be provided or taxes to be imposed by the regulatory agency to mitigate atmospheric carbon accumulation. We also present a numerical example to help illustrate the characteristics of variables in the model when the social cost for atmospheric carbon incrementally shifts upward. A surprising result is that the social cost function for atmospheric carbon has a very smaller impact on the optimal rotation period than previous literature suggested.

  • Purpose : This paper introduces a new three dimensional magnetic Resonance Image classification which is based on Mar kov Random Field-Gibbs Random Field with a line model. Material and Methods : The performance of the Gibbs Classifier over a statistically heterogeneous image can be improved if the local stationary regions in the image are disassociated from each other through the mechanism of the interaction parameters defined at the local neighborhood level. This usually involves the construction of a line model for the image. In this paper we construct a line model for multisignature images based on the differential of the image which can provide an a priori estimate of the unobservable line field, which may lie in regions with significantly different statistics. the line model estimated from the original image data can in turn be used to alter the values of the interaction parameters of the Gibbs Classifier. Results : MRF-Gibbs classifier for volumetric MR images is developed under the condition that the domain of the image classification is $E^{3}$ space rather thatn the conventional $E^{2}$ space. Compared to context free classification, MRF-Gibbs classifier performed better in homogeneous and along boundaries since contextual information is used during the classification. Conclusion : We construct a line model for multisignature, multidimensional image and derive the interaction parameter for determining the energy function of MRF-Gibbs classifier.

Clinical Report of 46 Intracranial Tumors with LINAC Based Stereotactic Radiosurgery (선형가속기를 이용한 뇌종양 46예의 뇌정위다방향방사선치료 성적)

  • Between July 1988 and December 1992, we treated 45 patients who had deep seated inoperable or residual and/or recurrent intracranial tumors using LINAC based stereotactic radiosurgery at the Department of Therapeutic Radiology, Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College. Treated intracranial tumors included pituitary tumors (n=15), acoustic neurinomas (n=8), meningiomas (n=7), gliomas (n=6), craniopharyngiomas (n=4), pinealomas (n=3), hemangioblastomas (n=2), and solitary metastatic tumor from lung cancer (n=1). The dimension of treatment field varied from 0.23 to 42.88 $cm^3\;(mean;\;7.26\;cm^3)$. The maximum tumor doses ranging from 5 to 35.5 Gy (mean; 29.9 Gy) were given, and depended on patients' age, target volume, location of lesion and previous history of irradiation. There were 22 male and 23 female patients. The age was varied from 5 to 74 years of age (a median age; 43 years). The mean duration of follow-up was 35 months (2~55 months). To date, 18 $(39.1\%)$ of 46 intracranial tumors treated with SRS showed absent or decrease of the tumor by serial follow-up CT and/or MRI and 16 $(34.8\%)$ were stationary, e.g. growth arrest. From the view point of the clinical aspects, 34 $(73.9\%)$ of 46 tumors were considered improved status, that is, alive with no evidence of active tumor and 8 $(17.4\%)$ of them were stable, alive with disease but no deterioration as compared with before SRS. Although there showed slight increase of the tumor in size according to follow-up imagings of 4 cases (pituitary tumor 1, acoustic neurinomas 2, pinealoma 1), they still represented clinically stable status. Clinically, two $(4.4\%)$ Patients who were anaplastic astrocytoma (n=1) and metastatic brain tumor (n=1) were worsened following SRS treatment. So far, no serious complications were found after treatment. The minor degree headache which could be relieved by steroid or analgesics and transient focal hair loss were observed in a few cases. There should be meticulous long term follow-up inall cases.
