The pushover analysis is becoming a popular tool for seismic design of building structures. In this paper the state-of-art on static nonlinear analysis of building structures is presented with the emphasis on the effects of analysis parameters; i. e., lateral load patterns, modeling of members, and analysis computer programs. The analysed results may have variation even if a same structure is analysed. This paper is to investigate how large the variation is and what the main causes of the variation are. The difference of analysed results, the resultant variation of lateral story shear force and flexural strength of structural members are discussed. The pushover analysis procedure are routinely used in the seismic design of building structures, but some problems must yet be clarified, such as the effects to evaluate the parameters of analysis on the basis of a lateral load patterns and modeling of members.

To survive in the current shipbuilding industry it is of vital importance for shipyards to achieve an optimal utilization of resources, make an achievable planning and ensure that this planning is kept. Possible problems should be eliminated before production starts and if unexpected disturbances occur in the actual production the right measures should be taken. Due to the dynamic nature of the production process, the continuous variation in products and the complexity of both, all this can hardly be achieved with conventional static planning and analysis systems. Simulation provides a solution here, since this enables the modelling and evaluation of the dynamic relations between product and production process. After a global introduction to production simulation in general and the application of simulation at the Flensburger shipyard, this paper presents a tool that has been developed to simulate the various complex assembly processes taking place at shipyards. Subsequently the simulation model for the subassembly production at Flensburger, in which this tool is applied, will be discussed.
This paper presents the fabrication of inchworm motor for high precision actuator system of large displacement and high force. The inchworm motor consists of a extend actuator that provides displacement of tool guide and two clamping actuators which provide the holding force. In order to avoid the PZT fracture, design of pre-load housing was conducted by flexure hinge structure, because PZT actuator has low tensile and shear. To design the pre-load housing and optimize the clamping mechanism, the static and dynamic analysis were conducted by finite element method. From these results, a prototype of the inchworm motor was fabricated and dynamic characteristic with respect to the various frequency was tested. The maximum velocity of the inchworm motor was $41.1{\mu}m/s$ at 16Hz.
The deflection of an end mill is very important in machining process and cutting simulation because it affects directly workpiece accuracy, cutting force, and chattering. In this study, the deflection of the end mill was studied both experimentally and by using finite element analysis. And the moment of inertia of radial cross sections of tile helical end mill is calculated for the determination of the relation between cross section and rigidity of tile tools. Using tile Bernoulli-Euler beam and and the concept of equivalent diameter, a deflection model is established, which includes most influence from tool geomety parameters. It was found that helix angle attenuates the rigidity of the end mill.
Dynamic cutting process can be represented by a closed-loop0 system consisted of machine tool structure and pure cutting process. On this paper, cutting system is modeled as a six degrees of freedom system using MARV(Modified Autoregressive Vector) model in face milling, and the modeled dynamic cutting process is used to predict dynamic cutting force component. Based on the double modulation principle, a dynamic cutting force model is developed. From the simulated relative displacements between tool and workpiece the dynamic force domponents can be calculated, and the dynamic force can be obtained by superposition of the static force and dynamic force components. The simulated dynamic cutting forces have a good agreement with the measured cutting force.
Today, manufacturing capability at the micro or nano scale production field is requested strongly in view of parts and product miniaturization. Miniaturized parts and products will introduce lots of benefits in terms of high precision functionality and low energy consumption. This paper presents the results of micro milling machine tool development for micro machining process. Finite element analysis has been performed to know the relationship between design dimensional variables and structural stiffness in terms of static, dynamic, thermal aspects. Performance evaluation through machining has been tested and discussed for achievable machining characteristics.
Performance evaluation of RC frame building by nonlinear static pushover analysis that accounts for elastic and post elastic behavior is becoming very popular as a valid decision making tool in seismic hazard resistant designs. Available literature suggests great amount of interest has shown by researchers in suggesting refinements to geometric and material modelling to bridge the gap between analytical predictions and observed performances. Notwithstanding the attempts gaps still exists. Sequence of plastic hinge formation which has great influence on pushover analysis results is an area less investigated. This paper attempts to highlight the importance of hinge sequence considerations to make analysis results more meaningful. Variation in analysis results due to different hinge sequences have been quantified, compared and bounds on analysis results have been presented.

This paper proposes an innovative method for selection of measurement sets in static parameter identification of concrete or steel bridges. This method is proved as a systematic tool to address the first steps of Structural System Identification procedures by observability techniques: the selection of adequate measurement sets. The observability trees show graphically how the unknown estimates are successively calculated throughout the recursive process of the observability analysis. The observability trees can be proved as an intuitive and powerful tool for measurement selection in beam bridges that can also be applied in complex structures, such as cable-stayed bridges. Nevertheless, in these structures, the strong link among structural parameters advises to assume a set of simplifications to increase the tree intuitiveness. In addition, a set of guidelines are provided to facilitate the representation of the observability trees in this kind of structures. These guidelines are applied in bridges of growing complexity to explain how the characteristics of the geometry of the structure (e.g. deck inclination, type of pylon-deck connection, or the existence of stay cables) affect the observability trees. The importance of the observability trees is justified by a statistical analysis of measurement sets randomly selected. This study shows that, in the analyzed structure, the probability of selecting an adequate measurement set with a minimum number of measurements at random is practically negligible. Furthermore, even bigger measurement sets might not provide adequate SSI of the unknown parameters. Finally, to show the potential of the observability trees, a large-scale concrete cable-stayed bridge is also analyzed. The comparison with the number of measurements required in the literature shows again the advantages of using the proposed method.
