  • In this research, a controller design method based on optimization is proposed that can satisfy constraints on maximum responses of building structures subject to ground excitation modeled by partially stationary stochastic process. The class of controllers to be optimized is restricted to LQR. Weighting matrix on controlled outputs is used as design variable. Objective function constraint functions and their gradients are computed parameterizing control gain with Riccati matrix. Full state feedback controllers designed by Proposed optimization method satisfy various design objectives and their necessary maximum control forces are computed fur the production of actuator. Probabilities of maximum responses match statistical data from simulation results well.

  • This paper presents the development of development of stabilization and tracking algorithms for a shipboard satellite antenna system. In order to stabilize the satellite antenna system designed in the previous work, a model for each control axis is derived and its parameters are estimated using a genetic algorithm, and the state feedback controller is designed based on the linearized model. Then a tracking algorithm is derived to overcome some drawbacks of the step tracking. The proposed algorithm searches for the best position using gradient-based formulae and signal intensities measured according to a search pattern. The effectiveness of both the stabilization and tracking algorithms is demonstrated through experiment using real-world data.

  • We propose a switching-based adaptive state feedback controller for a class of nonlinear systems that have uncertain nonlinearity. The base of the proposed conditions on the nonlinearity is the feedforward form, then it is extended via a nonlinear function containing all the states and the control input. As a result, more generalized systems containing feedforward and nonfeedforward terms are allowed as long as the ratio condition of the nonlinear function is satisfied. Moreover, the information on the growth rate of nonlinearity is not required a priori in our control scheme.

  • This paper proposes a theoretical analysis of a closed loop adaptive speed control system for control the inverter driven permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). This control system utilizes a mechanically sensorless state observer for the generation of all controller feedback information. The observer processes measurements of stator frame voltage and current to produce estimates of rotor position and speed and rotor frame currents. It is shown that the identity observer, when properly formulated, has the same linearized error dynamics as the extended kalman filter(EKF). Consequently, it is shown that the gains within the identity observer can be designed in a manner identical to that of the EKF. In this way, the designability of the nonlinear observer is assured, as is the optimality of its performance for small errors. A sequence of simulation are performed and they demonstrate the successful performance.

  • This paper presents the dynamics and the teal-time control of a horizontally rotating inverted pendulum. The dynamic equations representing three degrees of freedom rigid body motion of the pendulum are derived, and the state feedback controller is applied to the motion control of the pendulum. A 32 bit counter board with 16 bit hardware communication ability is developed to improve the real-time control performance and is applied to a horizontally rotating inverted pendulum. The simulation and experimental studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the developed pendulum system and the timing in the real-time control is analyzed.

  • This paper presents a robust vibration control methodology of smart structural systems. The governing equations and associated boundary conditions are derived by Hamilton's principle. A robust controller is designed using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to the multiobjective synthesis. The design objectives are to achieve a mix of H$\sub$$\infty$/ performance and H$_2$ performance satisfying constraints on the closed-loop pole locations in the face of model uncertainties. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of LMI approach in damping out the multiple modes of vibration of the piezo/beam system.

  • In this paper, we consider the robust guaranteed cost control problem for a class of uncertain neutral systems with given quadratic cost functions. The uncertainty is assumed to be norm-bounded and time-varying. The goal in this study is to design the memoryless state feedback controller such that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable and the closed-loop cost function value is not more than a specified upper bound lot all admissible uncertainty. Some criteria for the existence of such controllers are derived based on the matrix inequality approach combined with the Lyapunov second method. A parameterized characterization of the robust guaranteed cost controllers is given in terms of the feasible solutions to the certain matrix inequalities. A numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed method.

  • In this paper the newly developed discrete-time adaptive sliding mode control method is proposed and applied to the power system stabilization problem. In contrast to the conventional continuous-time sliding mode controller, the proposed method is developed in the discrete-time domain and based on the input/output measurements instead of the continuous-time and the full-states feedback, respectively. Because the proposed control method has the adaptivity property in addition to the natural robustness property of the sliding mode control, it is possible to design the power system stabilizer which can overcome both the minor variations of the parameters of the power system and the diverse operating conditions and faults of the power system. Mathematical proof and the various computer simulations are done to verify the performance and stability of the proposed method.

  • A rotary double inverted pendulum, the nonlinear system has a regulation problem. In this paper, we linearize the nonlinear system at the upright equilibrium position. The linearized system can be expressed in state space. To maintain the upright position, we design a feedback controller using LQR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) algorithm. Then we simulate the system with third-order Adams Bashforth Moulton Method. The simulated result shows that the applied algorithm is effective for the regulation problem.

  • This paper is concerned with the robust control of LQ state feedback regulators with poles in a specified region in the presence of system uncertainty. The robust stability results for the constant and nonlinear time varying perturbations are derived in terms of bounds of the perturbed system matrices and the weighting matrices in the performance index of LQ problem. The theoretical results are applied to the gap control problem of an attractive-type-magnetic levitation system and the effectiveness is proved by the implementation of digital control using 16 bits microcomputer.
