  • Although various conjectures have been proposed to explain abnormal increase in thermal conductivity of nanofluids, the detailed mechanism could not be understood and explained yet. The main reason is primarily due to the lack of knowledge on the most fundamental factor governing the mechanisms such as Brownian motion, liquid layering, phonon transport, surface chemical effects and agglomeration. By applying surface complexation model for the measurement data of hydrodynamic size, zeta potential, and thermal conductivity, we have shown that sulfate charge state is mainly responsible for the increase in the present condition and may be the factor incorporating all the mechanisms as well. Moreover, we propose a new model including concepts of fractal and interfacial layer. The properties such as thickness and thermal conductivity of the layer are estimated from the surface charge states and the concept of electrical double layer. With this, we could demonstrate the pH dependences of the layer properties and eventually of the effective thermal conductivity of the nanofluid.

  • The management aggravation of forests and the increase in the demand on resorts promote the urban use of forests, and the development of forests-using resorts is becoming an important political issue. Based on this understanding, this paper purports to examine the causes for the failure of the Shinrin Toshi policy (development of living space and resorts) which Japan promoted, and also examined the future direction of the development of forest resorts in Korea. As a result of the study, it was found that the Shinrin Toshi policy of Japan was promoted through the new changes of bubble economy and forest culture theory, and various strategies for the co-existence of human beings and nature were worked out. However, the policy took precedence without concrete plan production, which was found as the direct cause for the failure. The reasons for not having concrete plan production were: the target and the resort lifestyle (who will use it and what life will be developed) were not clear; the subject of the policy was restricted to state forests; and the dependence on civil capital in the promotion of the policy was too big. Therefore, in order to make the Shinrin Toshi policy successful, concrete lifestyle how the forest resort will be used and operated - needs to be set up and resources should be concretized. For this, the concrete demand on the forest resort life and the traditional community property of forest areas will have to be examined.

  • A numerical model for multiple reflection effects of a polarized beam on laser grooving has been developed. The surface of the treated material is assumed to reflect laser irradiation in a fully specular fashion. Combining electromagnetic wave theory with Fresnel's relation, the reflective behavior of a groove surface can be obtained as well as the change of the polarization status in the reflected wave field. The material surface is divided into a number of rectangular patches using a bicubic surface representation method. The net radiative flux far these patch elements is obtained by standard ray tracing methods. The changing state of polarization of the electric field after reflection was included in the ray tracing method. The resulting radiative flux is combined with a set of three-dimensional conduction equations governing conduction losses into the medium, and the resulting groove shape and depth are found through iterative procedures. It is observed that reflections of a polarized beam play an important role not only in increasing the material removal rate but also in forming different final groove shapes. Comparison with available experimental results for silicon nitride shows good agreement for the qualitative trends of the dependence of groove shapes on the electric field vector orientation.

  • $MgB_2$ doped with $TiO_2$ was prepared by the in-situ solid state reaction to study the effects of $TiO_2$ dopant on the flux pinning behavior of $MgB_2$ superconductor. From the field-cooled and the zero-field-cooled temperature dependences of magnetization, the realms of vortex-glass and vortex-liquid states of $TiO_2$-doped $MgB_2$ were determined in the H-T diagram (the temperature dependence of upper critical magnetic field and irreversibility line). The critical current density was estimated from the width of hysteresis loops in the framework of Beam's model at different temperatures. The results indicate that nano-scale $TiO_2$ inclusions play a role of the effective pinning centers and lead to the enhanced upper critical field and critical current density. It is suggested that the grain-boundary pinning mechanism is realized in $TiO_2$-doped $MgB_2$ superconductor.

  • Measurements by Luap et al. (2005) of elongational viscosity and birefringence of two nearly monodisperse polystyrene melts with molar masses $M_{w}$ of $206,000g{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ (PS206k) and $465,000g{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ (PS465k) respectively are reconsidered. At higher elongational stresses, the samples showed clearly deviations from the stress optical rule (SOR). The elongational viscosity data of both melts can be modeled quantitatively by the MSF model of Wagner et al. (2005), which is based on the assumption of a strain-dependent tube diameter and the interchain pressure term of Marrucci and Ianniruberto (2004). The only nonlinear parameter of the model, the tube diameter relaxation time, scales with $M_{w}^{2}$. In order to get agreement with the birefringence data, finite chain extensibility effects are taken into account by use of the $Pad\'{e}$ approximation of the inverse Langevin function, and the interchain pressure term is modified accordingly. Due to a selfregulating limitation of chain stretch by the FENE interchain pressure term, the transient elongational viscosity shows a small dependence on finite extensibility only, while the predicted steady-state elongational viscosity is not affected by non-Gaussian effects in agreement with experimental evidence. However, deviations from the SOR are described quantitatively by the MSF model by taking into account finite chain extensibility, and within the experimental window investigated, deviations from the SOR are predicted to be strain rate, temperature, and molar mass independent for the two nearly monodisperse polystyrene melts in good agreement with experimental data.

  • Ferroelectric ceramics are broadly used for various industrial applications. In this research, the lead-free ferroelectric ceramics of $(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})NbO_3$ was fabricated by using the solid state synthesis. The $(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})NbO_3$ pellets were sintered at 1200, 1150 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours in air atmosphere. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) characterization of the sintered KNN ceramics revealed surface morphology and grain size. And we used the X-ray diffraction (XRD) for measuring the sample crystal phase. Temperature dependence of the dielectric constant was measured by using an LCR meter. The sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours sample has a highest dielectric constant 6011 at Curie temperature ($T_C$) and dense structure with $2.33{\mu}m$ grain size.

  • Dynamic rheological properties of honeys with invert sugar at different mixing ratios of honey and invert sugar (10/0, 812, and 6/4 ratios) were evaluated at various low temperatures (-15, -10, -5, and $0^{\circ}C$) using a controlled stress rheometer for small-deformation oscillatory measurements. Honey-invert sugar mixtures displayed a liquid-like behavior, with loss modulus (G") predominating over storage modulus (G') (G">>G'), showing the high dependence on frequency (${\omega}$). The magnitudes of G' and G" increased with a decrease in temperature while their predominant increases were noticed at -10 and $-15^{\circ}C$. The greater tan ${\delta}$ values were found at higher temperature and ratio of honey to invert sugar, indicating that the honey samples at subzero temperatures become more viscous with increased ratio of honey to invert sugar and temperature. The time-temperature superposition (TTS) principle was used to bring G" values at various temperatures together into a single master curve. The TTS principle was suitable for the honey samples in the liquid-like state. The progress of viscous property (G") was also described well by the Arrhenius equation with high determination coefficients ($R^2=0.99$). Dynamic rheological properties of honey samples seem to be greatly influenced by the addition of invert sugar.

  • There has been a lot of research into the essence of the smile, but so far just a few studies have been done on the relationship between personality and smile. On the assumption that smile aesthetics are closely related to individual physical condition and psychological state, this study investigated the correlation between personality factors and smile scores. The Personality Factor Questionnaire test was administered to 60 university students (male : 30, female : 30) who have no teeth missing, no experience of orthodontic or prosthodontic treatment and good dentition. Then, portraits were taken in a full smile. Esthetic smile scores were estimated by 10 appraisers who were dentists. These scores were analyzed statistically using the SAS program. The following results were obtained. 1. Personality factors of Warmth, Stableness, Surgency, Boldness, Untroubled-adequacy, Group-dependence, Relaxation, Extraversion, Low anxiety were positively correlated to the aesthetic level of smile. 2. For females, personality factors had greater influence on smile aesthetics, whereas male smile aesthetics were less influenced by personality factors.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li polymer battery. The temperature dependence of conductivity impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical properties of PDF/PAN electrolytes as a function of a mixed ratio were reported for PVDF/PAN based polymer electrolyte films which were prepared by thermal gellification method of preweighed PVDF/PAN plasticizer and Li salt. The conductivity of PVDF/PAN electrolytes was 10$\^$-3/S/cm. 20PVDF5PEN LiCiO$\_$4//PC$\_$10//EC$\_$10/ electrolyte has the better conductivity compared to others. 20PVDF5PANLICIO$\_$4//PC$\_$10//EC$\_$10/ electroylte remains stable up to 5V vs. Li/Li$\^$+/. Steady state current method and ac impedance were used for the determination of transference numbers in PVDF/PAN electrolyte film. The transference number of 20PVDF5PANLiCO$\^$4//PC$\_$10//EC$\_$10/ electrolyte is 0.48.

  • For the application of superconducting fault current limiters(SFCLs) to the protection system, quench recovery characteristics of Au/YBCO thin film were investigated. The Au/YBCO thin film was designed as a SFCL element with a bi-spiral pattern. The SFCL element limited the fault current successfully. For the analysis of the recovery to superconducting state, we measured resistance variation of the SFCL element after the quench. In addition, in order to investigate the dependence of quench characteristics of SFCL on the $LN_2$ cooling condition, we measured the recovery time under a pressure of 1, 2 and 3 atm. As the results, the recovery time increased in proportion to the duration of the fault currents. In the sub-cooled condition, while the quench development was exactly the same, the recovery time was shortened as the pressure increased.
