  • The direct calculation method is generalized to the excited-state diffusion-influenced reversible reaction of a neutral and a charged particle under an external field with two different lifetimes and quenching in three dimensions. The present method provides an alternative way to calculate the binding probability density functions and the survival probabilities from the corresponding irreversible results. The solutions are obtained as the series solutions by the diagonal approximation due to the anisotropy of the unidirectional external field. The numerical results are found to be in good agreement with those of the previous study [S. Y. Reigh et al. J. Chem. Phys. 132, 164112 (2010)] within a weak field limit. The solutions of two approaches show qualitatively the same overall behavior including the power laws at long times.

  • This paper deals with a balanced model reduction for T-S(Takagi-Sugeno) fuzzy systems with time varying state delay. We define a generalized controllability gramian and a generalized observability gramian for a stable T-S fuzzy delayed systems. We obtain a balanced state space realization using the generalized controllability and observability gramian and obtain a reduced model by truncating states from the balanced state space realization. We also present an upper bound of the approximation error. The generalized controllability gramian and observability gramian can be computed from solutions of linear matrix inequalities. We demonstrate the efficacy of the suggested method by illustrating a numerical example.

  • Techniques for stabilising slender bridges under wind loads are presented in this article. A mathematically consistent description of the acting aerodynamic forces is essential when investigating these ideas. Against this background, motion-induced aerodynamic forces are characterised using a linear time-invariant transfer element in terms of rational functions. With the help of these functions, the aeroelastic system can be described in the form of a linear, time-invariant state-space model. It is shown that the divergence wind speed constitutes an upper bound for the application of the selected mechanical actuators. Even active control with full state feedback cannot overcome this limitation. The results are derived and explained with methods of control theory.

  • The disturbance attenuation problem for a class of discretetime switched linear systems with exponential uncertainties via switched state feedback and switched dynamic output feedback is investigated, respectively. By using Taylor series approximation and convex polytope technique, exponentially uncertain discrete-time switched linear system is transformed into an equivalent switched polytopic model with additive norm bounded uncertainty. For such equivalent switched model, one designs its switching strategy and associated state feedback controllers and dynamic output feedback controllers so that whole switched model is asymptotical stabilization with H-in nity disturbance attenuation base on switched Lyapunov function and LMI approach. Finally, two numerical examples are presented to illustrate our results.

  • Cloud providers now face the problem of estimating the amount of computing resources required to satisfy a future workload. In this paper, a virtual machine provisioning (VMP) mechanism is designed to adapt workload fluctuation. The arrival rate of forthcoming jobs is predicted for acquiring the proper service rate by adopting an exponential smoothing (ES) method. The proper service rate is estimated to guarantee the service level agreement (SLA) constraints by using a diffusion approximation statistical model. The VMP problem is formulated as a facility location problem. Furthermore, it is characterized as the maximization of submodular function subject to the matroid constraints. A greedy-based VMP algorithm is designed to obtain the optimal virtual machine provision pattern. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed mechanism could increase the average profit efficiently without incurring significant quality of service (QoS) violations.

  • Along with the computation and analysis for nonlinear system being more and more involved in the fields such as automation control electronic technique and electrical power system the nonlin-ear theory has become quite a attractive field for academic research. In this paper we derives the solutions for state equation of nonlinear system by using the inverse operator expression of the so-lutions is obtained. An actual computation example is given giving a comparison between IOM and Runge-kutta method. It has been proved by our investigation that IOM has some distinct advantages over usual approximation methods in that it is computationally con-venient rapidly convergent provides accurate solutions not requiring perturbation linearization or the massive computation inherent in discrietization methods such as finite differences. So the IOM pro-vides an effective method for the solution of nonlinear system is of potential application valuable in nonlinear computation.

  • Surface reaction occurs at a certain surface temperature when a catalyst is heated up in a reactive mixture. If homogeneous ignition does not occur, a steady state is observed because the heat produced by the surface reaction is balanced with the heat loss caused by convection, conduction and radiation. The present paper treats the effects of pressure on the surface temperature at the steady state. Hydrogen and oxygen are used as reactants and nitrogen as an inert gas. A spherical platinum catalyst of 1.5 mm in diameter is sustained in the chamber with two wires of 0.1 mm in diameter. As results, there exists a maximum steady temperature at a certain relative hydrogen concentration which increases with total pressure. At the steady state, it can be approximated that the heat release is estimated by the mass transfer considering the effect of natural convection. The experimental results are explained qualitatively by the approximation.

  • The time-averaged behavior of the three-phase Inductor-Converter Bridge (ICB) circuit has been analyzed by using the state-space averaging method. Especially, a second order approximation in the matrix expansion makes the analysis possible. The results are in a closed form which is quite different from the conventional solution obtained by using the Fourier Series. Therefore, the computational difficulties in evaluating the infinite Fourier series can be avoided and the results derived in this paper are available expecially in real time control. By comparing with the Fourier result, it has been verified that the analysis by means of the state-space averaging method is more accurate and simple. The digital simulation and the equivalent experiments have also been carried out to confirm the theoretical results.

  • We have investigated electronic structuresof antiferromagnetic YBaCo_2O_5 using the local spin-density approximation (LSDA) + U method. The charge and orbital ordered insulating ground state is correctly obtained with the strong on-site Coulomb interaction. Co^{2+} and Co^{3+} ions are found to be in the high spin (HS) and intermediate spin (IS) state, respectively. The tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition is responsible for the ordering phenomena and the spin states of Co ions. The large contribution of the orbital moment to the total magnetic moment indicates that the effect of the spin-orbit coupling is very important in YBaCo_2O_5.
