  • 한전 전력연구원이 주관하고 (주)효성이 참여하는 협동 연구의 형태로 진행된 연구과제의 결과물로써 100 MVA급 STATCOM 이 설계 및 제작되었다. 100 MVA STATCOM은 순수 국내 기술로 설계, 제작 되었으며 한전 미금변전소 345kV 수도권 계통에 연계되어 각종 시험을 마치고 실증 운전 중에 있다. 본 논문에서는 100 MVA STATCOM의 설치 및 운전 사례에 대하여 정리하였다.

  • This paper aims is to study the effect of photovoltaic generation penetration and STATCOM on the transient stability of a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system based on the rotor angle stability. The influence of STATCOM and PV penetration can be seen through damping oscillations, so that the generator remains stable with the rest of the system for various fault conditions. The simulation results obtained make it possible to efficient identify harmful and beneficial impact of increasing the PV penetration and the existence of STATCOM capability. The system model is created in MATLAB/ SIMULINK software.

  • STATCOM whose performance is higher than SVC at a view point of a continuous controllability of reactive power and response time is reviewed in this paper. Also, basic principle of STATCOM operation and the functions of each component are explained. 30kVA STATCOM system is practically designed according to design procedure in reference [2, [7] to develop a cost-effective and compact compensator. Its operation characteristics are verified by the simulation.

Comparing Impact of STATCOM and SSSC on the Performance of Digital Distance Relay

  • In this paper the impact of a SSSC and a STATCOM on the impedance calculated by a distance relay is investigated. Both analytical analysis and simulations are provided. The STATCOM/SSSC control systems are modeled in detail. It is demonstrated that a SSSC has a greater impact on the calculated impedance by an A-G distance relay element. Several scenarios are considered in the simulations like the impact of the fault conditions, the compensator settings, the power system conditions and so on. All the simulations are carried out in MATLAB/Simulink with detailed models of the SSSC and the STATCOM.

  • 전기로와 같은 고압, 대용량의 산업응용분야에서 전원 안정화를 목적으로 하는 변동부하에 의해 발생되는 정상분 및 역상분의 무효전력을 보상하기 위한 고성능의 STATCOM의 개발이 요구되었다. 본 논문에서는 POSCO ICT에서 개발한 22.9kV 5MVA STATCOM(static synchronous compensator)에 대해 기술하였다. 개발된 STATCOM은 다단 멀티레벨 컨버터(Cascaded Multilevel Converter) 방식으로 Delta 구성하였으며, 각상당 12개의 H-Bridge Inverter가 직렬로 구성되어 25 레벨의 전압을 출력한다.

  • This paper presents the design of an H$\infty$ based robust Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) supplementary controller to suppress the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) in the series-compensated system. The IEEE second benchmark, System-l model is employed for this study. In order to design the effective controller, the modal controllability and observability indices to the oscillation modes are considered. Comprehensive time domain simulations using a nonlinear system model that the proposed STATCOM supplementary controller can suppress the SSR efficiently in spite of the variations of power system operating conditions.

  • The alternative precise method for voltage balancing and load compensation using the susceptances control of a STATCOM is discussed. With the control of STATCOM's output current, it is confirmed that the compensation susceptances can be variable. And then the STATCOM's control method about compensation susceptances for load compensation and voltage balancing/regulation is derived. Finally, the effectiveness of load compensation and voltage balancing/regulation is confirmed through computer simulation.

  • In this paper, a static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) is proposed in order to compensate both negative-sequence and reactive power. The STATCOM control unit is designed considering the proposed compensation scheme for the unbalanced loads. As a result, the effectiveness of the STATCOM for compensating both negative-sequence and reactive power is verified by computer simulations.

  • In Jeju power sytstem, the generation of reactive power depends on the operation of CSC-HVDC filter. Thus, the grid voltage will be affected. Statcom and SVC have demonstrated that it has excellent charateristics to solve this problem. First, this paper analyzes the operation of the Statcom based on the real power system in Jeju. Then, the characteristics of Statcom will be compared to the SVC. The modelling of the Jeju power system including Statcom and SVC will be performed by using PSCAD/EMTDC program and the real data from the real Jeju power system.

  • (주)효성에서 자체 설계 및 개발한 FACTS(Flexible ACTransmission System) 기기중 하나인 1 MVA STATCOM(Static synchronous Compensator)은 전압 안정도 개선 및 역률제어를 통해 계통전력품질을 향상시킨다. 현재 개발된 1 MVA STATCOM은 제주 행원 풍력단지 내 풍력 발전기 14호기가 연계된 22.9 kV 계통에 병렬접속 되어있으며 현재 실증 운전 중에 있다. 본 논문에서는 1 MVA STATCOM의 설치 및 실증 운전사례를 소개한다.
