The Study of the Cycle Time Improvement by Work-In-Process Statistical Process Control Method for IC Foundry Manufacturing

  • The definition of cycle time is the time from the wafer start to the wafer output. It usually takes one or two months to get the product since customer decides to produce it. The cycle time is a critical factor for customer satisfaction because it represents the response time to the market. Long cycle time reflects the ineffective investment for the capital. The cycle time is very important for foundry because long cycle time will cause customer unsatisfied and the order loss. Consequently, all of the foundries put lots of human source in the cycle time improvement. Usually, we make decisions based on the experience in the cycle time management. We have no mechanism or theory for cycle time management. We do work-in-process (WIP) management based on turn rate and standard WIP (STD WIP) set by experiences. But the experience didn't mean the optimal solution, when the situation changed, the cycle time or the standard WIP will also be changed. The experience will not always be applicable. If we only have the experience and no mechanism, management will not be work out. After interview several foundry fab managers, all of the fab can't reflect the situation. That is, all of them will have an impact period after product mix or utilization varied. In this study, we want to develop a formula for standard WIP and use statistical process control (SPC) concept to set WIP upper/lower limit level. When WIP exceed the limit level, it will trigger action plans to compensate WIP Profile. If WIP Profile balances, we don't need too much WIP. So WIP level could be reduced and cycle time also could be reduced.

  • A construction temporary work is main process and importance trade section. A technology system of construction temporary has very low availability of field works and needs improvements in Korea as construction site has a quick response about new requirements. This study reviews literature researches and can verify that changes to a comprehensive technology system for construction site. In addition, it suggests a breakdown structure of new standards for temporary construction technology based on views of construction site managers. Meanwhile, temporary construction technology in Korea has changed with a specification of construction temporary work which had been revised in 2014. However, the revision is merely dividing the design and building off of construction temporary technology. It is lacking in many ways to change this in a new standard system for temporary construction technology. Henceforth, it needs to develop a standard system for temporary construction technology and a professional system that is appropriate for different purposes by detail trade sections.

A Study on the Method and Work Measurement for Productivity Improvement of Clothing Products-With concentration in MTM Analysis- (의류제품의 생산성 향상을 위한 방법 및 작업측정에 관한 연구-MTM법을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve productivity for maximum effects with the present equipments and staff. This study compared and analyzed the mea-sured time by using stop watch method and MTM, which was the new measuring method. The flow and results of this study were as follows: 1. This study investigated the theoretical background the efficiency for production management, and the way of productivity improvement through documentary research. 2. Setting up the standard flow on the experi-mental company production, making out a process chart and measuring the actual working hour. 3. The study measured the allowance time applying work sampling. 4. Each process of the movement analysis was filmed by video to use basic data. 5. MTM analysis was taken by choosing 10 processes from front bodice according to the basic movement of MTM. Through the results, this study exclude unneccesary movements and suggest a method for working ways. 6. Using the actual working hour measured by a stop watch calculated the pitch time and presumed the amount of daily productivity. 7. The result of the work sampling came out as 38% of allowance rate. It was 13% higher than the standard amount of woman's jacket allowance rate, which was 25%. The most influencing factor was work discussion. That was because there were commuication problem of the work way between the operator and leader. More adequate use of flow table and level passing table was needed. There were the problems that inappropriate places and sizes made the distance of movements longer and often needed more adjustment of works and surroundings. To prevent breakdowns equipments check ups were necessary before works. 8. The results of MTM analysis were as follow : the time was reduced 40% than the actual measured time by a stop watch. This was because the leveling of the operator was included in the real calculation. Also, leveling was included in MTM analysis and all the conditions were standarized. Therefore MTM method was a scientidic measuring way of establishing the standard time. The presented method of this study, suggested an ideal method eliminating unneccesary motions, and presented standardization of works. Improvement of working methods, work condition and simplifying motions in each 10 processes reduced the working time from total 656 seconds to 301 seconds. 9. The way and time of working was linked together in the MTM analysis methods. Thus data from MTM help suggest not only establishing standard time but also establishing stan-dard work. Plus it includes various ability for improvements of working ways. So it is an objective method which can be widely used in other work studies. 10. The function of a time study is to determine the amount of work produced with a given method. The work rate is used to establish the cost of labor. The wage of worker must be calculated per unit time which is deter-mined before the time study is made. This study tried to introduce the incentive rule for deciding wages according to the standard time by MTM method.

Development of R&D Standard Processes for E Research Institute (연구개발 표준 프로세스의 개발­E 연구원의 사례를 중심으로­)

  • With the rapid change in today's R&D environment and the enlargement of the expected quality level for R&D outcomes, it has become increasingly necessary to effectively define the R&D standard processes tailored for our organization and projects. To meet this needs, we defined the R&D standard processes based on the standards for systems and software engineering and our traditional work methods and applied them to our ongoing projects. We will improve our defined R&D standard processes continuously by monitoring of the processes and the feedback of the application results. In this paper, we introduce the R&D standard processes developed by E Research Institute and the requirements and approaches used for their development. We compare our defined R&D standard processes with ISO/IEC 15288 which is the first international standard for systems engineering.

  • The manufacturing industry with Make-to-Order production system is difficult to decide the standard information for the product and the demand is variable to estimate. In this paper, we concerned with the process planning method using data mining in the manufacturing industry with Make-to-Order environment. The subject of our study is the industry transformer plant which is received an diverse order of customer and then produced the product. Currently, process planning method is classified the standard information by hand based on the acquired knowledge through the experience. The standard information stored the various information, such as work sequence, time and so on. This process planning method needs an experts which possesses the field experience for several years. For the product specification which is varied in each order, current process planning method is not efficient due to need many times To solve this problem, we extract the information using data mining process for each processing time, and then construct the knowledge base. We propose a method which is the process planning of the industry transformer product in Make-to-Order environment using the knowledge base.

Proposing provisions of Standard Repair Method of Painting Work Defect by Lawsuit Case Study

  • Defect dispute in apartment building has become a debating social issue. The system of defect lawsuit and the conciliation process are applicable to solve defect problems in South Korea. Among various defects, painting work defect is a critical issue because it requires large area works and entails a lot of cost. Accordingly, disputes on work procedure and cost calculation are argued oftenly between residents and housing providers. This study reviewed detailed main issues of painting work and propose relevant systems and standards. In this analysis, the main issues are categorized into pre-works, main work, and others. The most recent cases are compared and analyzed for each issue. After the analysis, following conclusions are obtained, (1) In defect lawsuit system, even though surface treatment work in pre-work step is part of main work, it has been separated and regarded as a separate work. (2) Although the main painting work are not significantly different from two systems, it is still necessary to achieve a consensus to close the gap in the methodology of painting area calculation and determining whole painting or partial painting. (3) In addition, unlike the profit rate of general construction works, that of painting work remained the maximum rate and additional charge rate for works carried out in higher place are different among cases. Therefore, it is determined that establishing consistent standards is urgent.

Process Control Analysis for Efficient Production Management of Customized Baseball Uniforms (맞춤형 야구복의 효율적 생산관리를 위한 공정관리 분석)

  • To increase the productivity and product quality of customized baseball jerseys, this study developed a multi-variable system for a production process that efficiently controls diverse production management factors. The working time was measured through the establishment of a standard process where skilled workers and Chinese factory workers manufactured 5 sets of the same basic design jerseys. Based on the measured working time (1,136 seconds/per unit), the multi-variable process control system was developed, where hourly production management is possible according to the involved workers and equipment types. Each process was assigned accoding to the production management factors for a total of 28 standard processes. The processes were developed based on consideration of work characteristics according to the order of needlework of open-type set baseball jerseys with sleeves(the basic design of baseball jerseys)to result in a customized production system structure that could be set up with multi-variables. As a result, a total 12 types of systems were developed in consideration of the personnel involved and the number of equipments. The optimal production management system (with the highest efficiency compared to the number of workers)was A-2, B-1, C-1. D-2, E-2, F-1, and G-1. This system had extremely high efficiency and showed 99% assignment efficiency for the 7-person team. Though not optimal, possible process assignment for each working personnel is proposed as a reserve process in case work modification is inevitable due to malfunctions and the absence of equipments.

  • Quite a few of persons often fall into an error that ISO has happened an additional work at construction sites. Supervision works, however, are carried out in compliance with 'Guidelines for the Supervision Works' which is including most ISO Requirements. Additional requirements needed for the supervision works are not many. This study has studied on the ISO application of supervision works in relation to, 1) ISO 9001 & KS A 9001 Quality Management System Basic Model, 2) The Process of Railway Construction Work Supervision Quality Management Plan, 3) Supervision Work Performance Guide Book(2005) & KS A 9001(2001) Standard, at the railway construction sites.

  • Reinforced concrete is the most widely used construction method for constructing structures. There is a lot of process for constructing Reinforced concrete structures such as installing rebars, molds and support, mixing and placing concrete, and curing. So the reinforced concrete work accounts for a large part of the total construction cost for constructing structure. For this reason a reasonable standard for estimating the cost of reinforced concrete construction has to be established and it will be possible to secure appropriate costs for construction work. In this study, we analyze the revision factors of the standard for estimating the cost of reinforced concrete construction and present them to secure reasonable construction costs.
