  • The purpose of this study in vitro investigation was to evaluate the dimensional stability of dental digital models made by impression scanning method. Twenty working models were produced. Twenty impressions were made from study models. The dimensional stability of models of two groups (stone and digital models) was examined using six landmark distances. Stone models were measured through digital vernier calipers. Digital models were measured by the computer program. Statistical analyses were performed with Wilcoxon rank sum test (${\alpha}=0.05$). The mean of six landmark distances were significantly larger in the stone models than in the digital models (p<0.05) but digital models showed clinically acceptable accuracy.

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a postural-stability patient transfer technique for care helpers in nursing homes and to evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: Four types of patient transfer techniques (Lifting towards the head board of the bed, turning to the lateral position, sitting upright on the bed, transferring from wheel chair to bed) were practiced in accordance with the following three methods; Care helpers habitually used transfer methods (Method 1), patient transfer methods according to care helper standard textbooks (Method 2), and a method developed by the author ensuring postural-stability (Method 3). The care helpers' muscle activity and four joint angles were measured. The collected data were analyzed using the program SPSS Statistic 21.0. To differentiate the muscle activity and joint angle, the Friedman test was executed and the post-hoc analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. Results: Muscle activity was significantly lower during Method 3 compared to Methods 1 and 2. In addition, the joint angle was significantly lower for the knee and shoulder joint angle while performing Method 3 compared to Methods 1 and 2. Discussion: Findings indicate that using postural-stability patient transfer techniques can contribute to the prevention of musculoskeletal disease which care helpers suffer from due to physically demanding patient care in nursing homes.

  • The effects of pH and temperature on the degradation of prokidn in various buffered aqueous solutions(pH 1.32~9.66) and temperatures (35, 45 and 6$0^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The effect of ionic strength on the degradation of prokidin was also measured by varying ionic strength (0.0466~1.5) at pH 1.35 and 45$^{\circ}C$ The effect of metal ions on the degradation of prokidin at pH 7.35 and 3.98 was observed. The degradation of prokidin followed the pseudo- first- order kinetics. The degradation rate of prokidin showed pH-dependent and temperature-dependent patterns. Prokidin was very stable at the pH below 3.95, where half-lives at 35, 45 and 6$0^{\circ}C$were 294, 206 and 107 day, respectively. However, it degraded very rapidly at pH above 6.49; the half-lives at 35, 45 and 6$0^{\circ}C$were 60, 25 and 13 day, respectively. As ionic strength increased, the degradation rate of prokidin increased. Some metal ions increased the degradation rate in the rank order of Mn > Fe > Cu >Fe On the other hand. other metal ions such as Bi, Ba. Zn, Ni, Co did not show unfavorable effect.

  • The physico-chemical stability of aucubin, a hepatoprotective iridoid glucoside, in buffered aqueous solutions was studied using a stability-indicating reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography. The degradation of aucubin followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics. In strong acidic regions, aucubin was rapidly degraded by the specific acid catalysis, forming dark brown precipitates. From the rate-pH profiles, it was found that aucubin was most stable at the pH of about 10. From the temperature dependence of degradation, activation energies for aucubin at pH 2.1 and 4.9 were calculated to be 22.0 and 24.3 kcal/mole, respectively. The shelf-life $(t_{90%})$ for aucubin at pH 9.07 and $20^{\circ}C$ was predicted to be about 603 days. A higher ionic strength accelerated the degradation of aucubin at pH 4.01. The effect of metal ions on the degradation rate of aucubin at pH 7.16 was in the rank order of $Cu^{2+}\;>\;Fe^{3+}\;>\;Co^{2+}\;>\;Fe^{2+}\;>\;Mg^{2+}$. On the other hand, $Mn^{2+}\;and\;Ba^{2+}$ slowed the degradation rate.

  • The physicochemical properties of aloesin, which has been recently found to reduce renal toxicity induced by cis-platin, were studied including solubility, partition coefficient ( $P_{c}$ ), osmolality, and stability. The solubility of aloesin was about 500 mg/mι, and the $P_{c}$ value for n-octanol/water was 1.01 $\pm$ 0.03. The degradation of aloesin followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics and was dependent on temperature, pH and ionic strength. From the pH-rate profile, the optimal pH was found to be 2.0~3.0. Some metal ions increased the degradation rate in the rank order of M $n^{2+}$ > F $e^{3+}$ > C $u^{2+}$ > F $e^{2+}$. On the other hand, other metal ions such as B $i^{3+}$, $Ba^{2+}$, Z $n^{2+}$, N $i^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ did not show the unfavorable effects. After autoclaving, aloesin contents remaining were 81.8~98.8% of initial concentrations depending on pH. The most stable pH was 3.98 in the autoclaving. Osmolality increased linearly as concentration increased.sed.creased.sed.

  • Tensegrity systems are stable structures which are reticulated spatial structures composed of compressive straight members, struts and cables. But there are some difficulties concerning surface stability, surface formation and construction method. One of the ways to solve this problem reasonably is combination of tesile members and rigid members. This structure is a type of flexible strutural system which is unstable initially because the cable material has little initial rigidity. Therefore tensegrity structure need to be introduced to the Initial stress for the self-equilibrated system having stable state. The rigidification of tensegrity systems is related to selfstress states which can be achieved only when geometrical and mechanical requirements are simultaneously satisfied. In this paper, for the stabilization of tesnsegrity structure it is proposed the modified self-equilibrated equation and the range of the various geometrical parameter about unit system. And we generate the model of double layed single curvature arch using the new squew quadruplex unit system.

  • This study analyzes factors affecting the competitiveness of broadband over power line communication (BPLC) and predicts demand for the service, based on quantitative information about consumer preferences drawn from a survey of Korean consumers. Findings from the estimation suggest that, although consumers value some beneficial features of BPLC, to be competitive the speed and stability of its data transmission needs to be improved. Moreover, on the basis of a market simulation, we expect BPLC to occupy only a small portion of Korea's Internet access market in the future, a finding we expect would hold true for other developed countries whose Internet access markets are already mature.

  • Four crystal forms of ketorolac have been obtained by recrystallization in organic solvents under variable conditions. Different ketorolac polymorphs and pseudo polymorph were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction crystallography (XRD), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In the dissolution studies in water at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ four crystal forms showed different patterns. The solubility of Form I were the highest. The solubility decreased in rank order: Form I> Form II > Form III > Form IV. Form land Form III were shown to have a good physical stability at room temperature for 60 days. However, Form II is converted to Form III and Form IV is converted to Form I after 60 days storage. Therefore, these observations indicate that crystalline polymorphism for ketorolac is readily inter-convertible and the relationship may have to taken into consideration in the formulation of the drug.

  • The basic systems of spatial structures such as shells, membranes, cable-nets and tensegrity structures have been developed to create the large spaces without column. But there are some difficulties concerning structural stability, surface formation and construction method. Tensegrity systems are flexible structures which are reticulated spatial structures composed of compressive members and cables. The rigidification of tensegrity systems is related to selfstress states which can be achieved only when geometrical and mechanical requirements are simultaneously satisfied. In this paper, the force density method allowing form-finding for tensegrity systems is presented. And various modules of unit-structures are investigated and discussed using the force density method. Also, a model of double-layered single curvature arch with quadruplex using supplementary cable is presented.
