Wave directional spectrum estimation methods for irregular waves were considered in this study. Until now, the Longuet-Higgins Method (LHM) initiated by Longuet-Higgins et al. (1963) has been widely used, but resolutions of the estimation were found to be low. Kobune's Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) for the estimation of wave directional spectrum, bas-ed on the entropy Principle showed higher resolutions comparing with the LHM . If the wave directional spectrum is of Delta functions, the MEM is exact in its estimation. It was also found that for a unimodal spectrum, if the Mitsuyasu's spreading coefficient is above 5, the estimation resolutions were high. In bimodal spectrum, as the angle difference between the two peaks increased, the resolution improved. The energy seems to transfer to the smoother peak in the smoothing of peak's peakedness. LHM has a tendency to estimate bimodal spectrum as a unimodal spectrum ; thus, except for its computational speed, the resolution of LHM falls far below that of MEM.

A numerical model based on the wide-angle parabolic approximation equation is developed for the accurate simulation of the directional spreading and partial breaking of irregular waves. This model disintegrates the irregular waves into a series of monochromatic wave components, and the simultaneous calculations are made for each wave component. Then, the computed wave components are superposed to get the wave height of irregular waves. To consider the partial breaking of irregular waves in the computation the amount of energy dissipation due to breaking is estimated using the superposed wave height. The accuracy of the developed model is tested by comparing the numerical results with the experimental measurements reported earlier. In the case of non-breaking waves a considerable accuracy of the model is observed for both regular and irregular waves. On the contrary it is found that the accuracy is significantly degenerated for the case of breaking waves. Some analyses for the accuracy degeneration are presented.
Despite significant effects on macroscopic migration and distribution of CO2 injected during geological sequestration, only limited information is available on wettability in microscopic scCO2-brine-mineral systems due to difficulties in pore-scale observation. In this study, a micromodel had been developed to improve our understanding of how scCO2 flooding and residual characteristics of porewater are affected by the wettability in scCO2-water-glass bead systems. The micromodel (a transparent pore structure made of glass beads and glass plates) in a pressurized chamber provided the opportunity to visualize scCO2 spreading and porewater displacement. CO2 flooding followed by fingering migration and dewatering followed by formation of residual water were observed through an imaging system. Measurement of contact angles of residual porewater in micromodels were conducted to estimate wettability in a scCO2-water-glass bead system. The measurement revealed that the brine-3M NaCl solution-is a wetting fluid and the surface of glass beads is water-wet. It is also found that the contact angle at equilibrium decreases as the pressure decreases, whereas it increases as the salinity increases. Such changes in wettability may significantly affect the patterns of scCO2 migration and porewater residence during the process of CO2 injection into a saline aquifer at high pressures.

This study was pursued to measure skin feeling of cosmetics by mechanical methods. For this attempt, skin feeling of cosmetics such as spreading properties, tackiness, and residual greasy feeling after skin application was explored with the amount and kinds of cosmetic compositions-emulsifiers, waxes, thickeners, polyols, and oils. Furthermore, the relationship between these cosmetic compositions and viscometry of cosmetic products was studied. In case of emulsifiers, waxes, and thickeners, they showed strong correlation with both skin feeling and the value of phase angle, the property of viscometry, respectively, while polyols and oils were observed a special tendency neither skin feeling nor the property of viscometry. It leads to the conclusion that skin feeling may be corresponded to not values of a mechanical measure completely but a function of several properties. We expect that a better correlation can be discovered with additionally measured properties such as friction, volatility, etc.

The Aft-deck is being applied to the latest unmanned aircraft for the purpose of shielding the gas turbine exhaust plume or spreading jets to increase the mixing rate with the ambient air, thereby reducing the temperature of exhaust gases. In this study, we would like to find out how the performance of the nozzle is affected by the design variables of the Aft-deck. The design variables of aft-deck are selected as length, expansion angle and upper deck shape. The correlation between thrust and plume shielding rate with the length variable is presented. And the correlation between the thrust and the jet diffusion range is presented according to the expansion angle. In addition, the thrust increase effect is confirmed by the removal of the upper deck and the characteristics of transverse velocity vector determined mixing performance with external flow.

Purpose: We measured linear distances, angles and inclinations on the cast models of the noses, and compared these indirect measurements with the direct measurements obtained from the nose in order to validate the accuracy of the indirect anthropometry using the cast model. Methods: Subjects were 50 males and 50 females, medical students in twenties(mean 27.1 years). Cast models were made from the alginate impression material and the plaster. In direct anthropometry, 16 linear, 7 angular, and 2 inclination measurements between 11 landmarks on the nose were obtained using sliding caliper, spreading caliper, and fabric tape measure. At the same time, the same measurements were obtained from the cast models of the same people. Total 25 measurements were compared, and tested by the independent t-test of SPSS. Results: The standard values of Korean nose in twenties were obtained. 24 measurements except the columellar labial angle were not statistically different between the indirect anthropometry and the direct anthropometry. Conclusion: Indirect anthropometry on the cast model of the nose revealed no significant difference from the anthropometric measurement statistically, accounting for 24 in 25 measurements(96%). There are two possible reasons that caused the difference of columellar labial angle between direct and indirect anthropometry. First, the columellar labial angle could be decreased by protrusion of the lips which resulted from contracting mouth in which an drinking straw had been applied on the mouth corner for patients' respiration during making cast model. Second, it is generally known that the columellar labial angle could be measured larger when soft tissues were pressed by protractor in direct anthropometry. Using a drinking straw with greater diameter, and scheming respiration through the nostrils that patients don't feel discomfort, the more accurate data would be obtained from the indirect anthropometry using the cast models of the noses.

Indonesia has a very short supply of electricity. As a solution to this problem, plans for construction of thermal power plants are increasing. Thermal power plant require the cooling water system to cool the overheated engine and equipment that accompany power generation, and the circulation water pump chamber among the cooling water system are generally designed according to the ANSI (1998) standard. In this study, the design criterion $20^{\circ}$ for the spreading angle of the ANSI (1998) of the layout of the circulating water pump chamber can not be satisfied on the K-coal thermal power plant site condition in Indonesia. Therefore, 3-D numerical model experiment was carried out to obtain a hydraulically stable flow and stable structure. The Flow-3D model was used as numerical model. In order to examine the applicability of the Flow-3D model, the flow study results around the rectangular structure of Rodi (1997) and the numerical analysis results were compared around the rectangular structures. The longitudinal velocity distribution derived from numerical analysis show good agreement. In order to satisfy the design velocity in the circulating water pump chamber, a rectangular baffle favoring velocity reduction was applied. When the approach velocity into the circulating water pump chamber was occurred 1.5 m/s ~ 2.5 m/s, the angle of the separation flow on the baffle was occurred about $15^{\circ}{\sim}20^{\circ}$. By placing the baffle below the separation flow angle downstream, the design velocity of less than 0.5 m/s was satisfied at inlet bay.

The present study aims to numerically investigate the behavior of liquid droplet driven by capillarity force imbalance on horizontal surfaces ranging from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, under various conditions. The droplet behavior has been simulated using an in-house solution code(PowerCFD), which employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with interface capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The detailed droplet behavior was obtained under various conditions for droplets with different initial shapes, contact angles and surface tension forces(or Bond number). The mechanism of droplet transport was examined using the numerical results on the droplet shapes.

Numerical analysis had been performed to understand flow characteristics of the flue gas and slurry in the absorber of a flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. Two-fluid(Euler-Lagrangian) model had been employed to simulate physical phenomenon, which slurry particles injected through slurry spray nozzles fall down and bump into the flue gas inflowing through inlet duct. It was not necessary to adopt pre-defined pressure drop inside the absorber because interaction between flue gas and slurry particles was considered. Hundreds of slurry spray nozzles were considered with the spray velocity at the nozzles, swirl velocity and spreading angle. The results note that the flow disturbance of flue gas is found at the bottom of the absorber, and the current rising with high speed stream is observed in the opposite region of the inflow duct. The high speed stream is reduced as the flue gas goes up, because the high speed stream of flue gas dumps falling slurry particles due to momentum exchange between flue gas and slurry particles. In spite of some disproportion in slurry distribution inside the absorber, escape of slurry particles from the absorber facility is not observed. The pressure drop inside the absorber is mainly occurred at the bottom section.
This paper proposes a distributed highlight algorithm to generate efficiently echo signal for underwater target. In this algorithm, echo signal is synthesized by discontinuity highlights that are varied to incident angle, by equivalent and specified position highlights according to the spatial target structure. Completed UTAHID(Underwater TArget by Highlight Distribution) model is confrimed that PTS, ETS, echo elongation effect, target time spreading loss and envelope fluctuation are satisfied to expected values by various simulations. Thus it can be efficiently used in all sorts of real systems related to underwater target echo signal synthesis in active sonar.
