분무 건조법에 의한 프라즈마 용사를 Cr$_2$O$_3$조립 분말 제조 (Fabrication of Agglomerated Cr$_2$O$_3$ Powder for Plasma Spray Coating by Spray Drying Process)

  • Plasma sprayed ceramic coatings are widely used in various industrial fields to improve their properties or to reduce the production cost. The ceramic powders for plasma spray coating have been mainly manufactured by spray drying or fused+crushed process. In this study, chromium oxide which has better mechanical properties than those of the other ceramic was selected and agglomerated chromium oxide powders for plasma spray coating were produced by spray drying process with a various processing condition. The large hollow powders and the harsh surfaced powders are formed at high slurry feed rate more than 163 g/min. and low binder concentration less than 2wt%, respectively. These powders cause the considerable decrease of flowability and apparent density. The powders produced by spray drying process have the spherical shape with the mean size of 45 ${\mu}m$, but these are shown lower apparent density and flowability than the powders produced by fused+crushed powders. The plasma spray coated layers by spray dried powders are shown a different microstructure with that by fused+crushed powders in porosity shape, but their properties such as density, hardness and bond strength are similar.

  • Sintered alumina ceramic substrate has been used for the insulating substrate for thick Hybrid IC owing to its cheapness and good insulating properties. Some of thick HIC's are important to eliminate the heat emitted from the parts that are mounted on the ceramic substrate. Sintered ceramic substrate can not transfer and emit the heat efficiently. It's been tried to do plasma spray coating of alumina ceramic on the metal substrates that have a good heat emission property. The most important properties to commercialize this ceramic coated metal substrate are surface roughness and deposition efficiency. In this study, plasma spray coating parameters are optimized to minimize the surface roughness and to maximize the deposition efficiency using Taguchi experimental method. By this optimization, the deposition efficiency was greatly improved from 35% at the frist time to 75% finally.

저온 분사 공정을 이용해 적층된 INCONEL 718의 계면접합 저해요인 분석 (Investigating the Cause of Hindrance to the Interfacial Bonding of INCONEL 718 Layer Deposited by Kinetic Spray Process)

  • The cost for maintenance (replacement cost) of Ni-superalloy components in plant industry is very expensive because of high unit price of INCONEL 718. A development of repairing technology using kinetic spray process can be very helpful for reducing the maintenance cost. However, it is very difficult to produce well-deposited INCONEL 718 layer showing high interfacial bond strength via kinetic spraying. Thus, INCONEL 718 was deposited on SCM 440 substrate and the interfacial properties were investigated, in order to elucidate the cause of hindrance to the bonding between INCONEL 718 layer and SCM 440 substrate. As a result, it was revealed that the dominant obstacle to the interfacial bonding was excessive compressive residual stress accumulated in the coating layer, resulting from low plastic-deformation susceptibility of INCONEL 718. Nevertheless, the bonding state was enhanced by the post heat-treatment through relieving the residual stress and generating a diffusion/metallurgical bonding between the INCONEL 718 deposit and SCM 440 substrate.

선체 구조용 강재에 대한 Al과 Zn 아크용사코팅 층의 캐비테이션 손상 특성 (Cavitation Damage Characteristics of Al and Zn Arc Thermal Spray Coating Layers for Hull Structural Steel)

  • In this study, Al and Zn arc thermal spray coatings were carried out onto the substrate of SS400 steel to improve corrosion resistance and durability of hull structural steel for ship in marine environment. Therefore cavitation-erosion test was conducted to evaluate the durability of painted and thermal spray coated specimens. And then the damaged surface morphology and weight loss were obtained to compare with each other, respectively. As a result, the painted specimen was the poorest cavitation resistance characteristics because surface damage behavior appeared to be exfoliated in bulk shape during the cavitation experiment. And Zn thermal spray coating layer presented the significant surface damage depth due to relatively low surface hardness and local cavitation damage tendency. On the other hand, as a result of the weight loss analysis, the painting layer presented the poorest cavitation resistance and the Al thermal spray coating layer relatively showed the best results after cavitation experiment.

Kinetic Spray 공정을 이용한 벌크형 탄탈륨 소재의 제조 및 미세조직/물성 (Fabrication and Microstructure/Properties of Bulk-type Tantalum Material by a Kinetic Spray Process)

  • A bulk-type Ta material is fabricated using the kinetic spray process and its microstructure and physical properties are investigated. Ta powder with an angular size in the range $9-37{\mu}m$ (purity 99.95%) is sprayed on a Cu plate to form a coating layer. As a result, ~7 mm-sized bulk-type high-density material capable of being used as a sputter material is fabricated. In order to assess the physical properties of the thick coating layer at different locations, the coating material is observed at three different locations (surface, center, and interface). Furthermore, a vacuum heat treatment is applied to the coating material to reduce the variation of physical properties at different locations of the coating material and improve the density. OM, Vickers hardness test, SEM, XRD, and EBSD are implemented for analyzing the microstructure and physical properties. The fabricated Ta coating material produces porosity of 0.11~0.12%, hardness of 311~327 Hv, and minor variations at different locations. In addition, a decrease in the porosity and hardness is observed at different locations upon heat treatment.

  • This work presents functionally graded coatings (FGC) of hydroxyapatite (HA) and metallic powders on Ti-6Al-4V implants using plasma spray coating method. HA has been the most frequently used coating material due to its excellent compatibility with human bones. However, because of the abrupt changes in thermomechanical properties between HA and the metallic implant across an interface, and residual stress induced on cooling from coating temperture to room temperature, debonding at the interface occurs in use sometimes. In this work, FGC of HA and Ti or Ti-alloy powders is made to mitigate the abrupt property changes at the interface and the effect of FGC on residual stress release is investigated by evaluating the mechanical bond strength between the implant and the HA coating layers. Thermal annealing is done after coating in order to crystallize the HA coating layer which tends to have amorphous structure during thermal spray coating. The effects of types and compositional ratio of metallic powders in FGC and annealing conditions on the bond strength are also evaluated by strength tests and the microstructure analysis of coating layers and interfaces. Finally, biocompatibility of the coating layers are tested under ISO 10993-5.

Structural Characteristics of Spray-coated Poly (vinylidene fluoride) Thin Films Prepared with Different Organic Solvents

  • Poly (vinylidene fluoride) thin films were deposited by a spray-coating technology. Two organic solvents with different boiling point were used to prepare the mixture solution for spray coating process: N-Methylpyrrolodone ($B.P.=202^{\circ}C$); Tetrahydrofuran ($B.P.=66^{\circ}C$). Post-deposition annealing temperature was varied for the spray-coated Poly(vinylidene fluoride) thin films. Structural characteristics of the thin films were comparatively investigated by FT-IR and XRD in relation with the organic solvent and post-deposition annealing temperature.

3차원 구조에서 EMI 스프레이 코팅막의 차폐효과 분석 (Analysis for Shielding Effectiveness of EMI Spray Coating Layers in 3D Structure)

  • 3차원 구조에서 EMI 스프레이 코팅막의 차폐효과(SE)를 측정하였다. 차폐효과의 측정은 동축형 표준 측정기를 이용하는 ASTM D4935 방법으로 수행하였다. ASTM D4935의 동축형 표준 측정기를 이용하여 차폐효과를 측정하기 위하여 원통 슬랩(Slab)의 표준 시료를 가공하여 넣게 된다. 이 때 표준 시료에 낸드 플래시 메모리를 모델링한 3차원 구조를 접합하여 스프레이 코팅을 하였다. 스프레이 코팅의 경우 3차원 구조의 수평면뿐만 아니라 수직면에도 균일하게 코팅이 되었다. 측정결과, 3차원 구조에서도 3차원 구조가 없는 샘플과 비슷하게 최대 59 dB의 차폐효과가 측정되었다. 이러한 결과로 3차원 구조에서도 스프레이 코팅을 균일하게 할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

고압 스프레이 코팅법에 의한 저온동시소성세라믹(LTCC) 유전체 층의 적층방법 (Lamination of Dielectric Layers by High Pressure Spray Coating for LTCC)

  • 유리 조성이 섞인 유전체 파우더와 증류수 그리고 해교제의 혼합으로 만들어진 슬러리를 에어로졸 형태로 고압 스프레이 건으로 기판에 스프레이 코팅 하였다. 기판으로는 알루미나 기판과 전극 패턴이 프린트 된 그린쉬트를 사용하였다. 슬러리 점도와 스프레이 건에 의한 분사모양 그리고 슬러리의 분사량은 코팅 층의 코팅 속도에 영향을 끼쳤으나 밀도에는 거의 영향을 주지 않았다. 고압 스프레이 코팅 방법은 기판에 직접적인 가압 과정이 없으므로 내부 전극은 인쇄된 형태가 유지되었다. 최적 조건에서는 균일하고 조밀한 코팅 층을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 그린쉬트에 적층 공정을 사용한 기존의 방법과는 달리 고압 스프레이 코팅 방법은 $20{\sim}50{\mu}m$의 얇은 유전체 층을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • The purpose of this work is to coat ZrO$_{2}$ - 8Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramic on the Al cast alloy(AC-8A) by using the plasma spray method. Two types of coatings which were composed of two and three layer coating were examined. Each coating powder was analyzed for shape and size distribution and X-ray diffraction pattern. For the coated layers, microstructural analysis and performance estimation which was composed of static thermal test, thermal cyclic test and thermal shock test were conducted.
