  • Despite the importance of cycling postures during cycling performances, there has been a very little research investigating cycling postures and pedaling rate for particularly concerning domestic cyclists. The aim of this study was to analyze correlations and effects between cycling postures and pedaling rate in track cycling. Twelve male racing cyclists (six racing and university cyclists) participated in this research. For this study, seven infrared cameras (Qualisys ProReflex MCU-240s) were used for collecting data and these were processed via QTM (Qualisys Tracker Manager) software. It appeared that pedaling rate had correlations with regard to a shoulder angle (R=-.601) and displacement between shoulder joints(R= -.637), but a knee (R=-.601) and ankle angle (R=.667). Moreover, two multiple regression equations of pedaling rate for cycling postures were significant and R2 of the first order equation y (pedaling rate) = 0.039x (knee angle) - 1.068 was less than the second order equation y = 0.006x2 - 1.287x + 69.674. In conclusion, cycling postures affected the pedaling rate. Further study should be researched on postures in relation to air resistance in a wind tunnel.

  • To investigate the antifungal activity related protein in pesticidal bacteria, a bacterial strain LTD was isolated from soil collected at Gimje in Jeonbuk province, Korea, and identified as Bacillus subtilis LTD based on a API50 CHB kit and 168 rDNA sequencing. It has an antifungal activity against 9 plant pathogenic fungi in a paper disc assay. The antifungal activity- deficient mutant, B. subtilis mLTD was induced at a 5 kGy dose of $^{60}Co$ gamma radiation. Using the two-dimensional electrophoresis and the matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, the comparison analysis of proteins between the wild and mutant were performed. A major intracellular serine proteinase IspA (MW: 32.5 kDa), a NAD (P) H dehydrogenase (MW: 20.0 kDa), and a stage II sporulation protein AA, SpoIIAA (MW: 14.3kDa) were detected only in the B. subtilis LTD. These results suggested that the functions of these proteins found only in the B. subtilis LTD could. be closely related to the antifungal activity against plant pathogenic fungi.

  • Microarray technology has contributed Significantly to the understanding of bacterial genetics and transcriptional regulation. One neglected aspect of this technology has been optimization of microarray-generated signals and quality of generated information. Full genome microarrays were developed for Clostridium acetobutylicum through spotting of PCR products that were designed with minimal homology with all other genes within the genome. Using statistical analyses it is demonstrated that Signal quality is significantly improved by increasing the hybridization volume. possibly increasing the effective number of transcripts available to bind to a given spot, while changes in labeled probe amounts were found to be less sensitive to improving signal quality. In addition to Q-RT-PCR, array validation was tested by examining the transcriptional program of a mutant (M5) strain lacking the pSOL1 178-gene megaplasmid relative to the wildtype (WT) strain. Under optimal conditions, it is demonstrated that the fraction of false positive genes is 1% when considering differentially expressed genes and 7% when considering all genes with signal above background. To enhance genomic-scale understanding of organismal physiology, using data from these microarrays we estimated that $40{\sim}55%$ of the C. acetobutylicum genome is expressed at any time during batch culture, similar to estimates made for Bacillus subtilis.

  • Larval morphogenesis and infection rates of Cercaria pectinata Huet were investigated in regards to histological changes and mortality of the hard clam, Meretrix lusoria $(R\ddot{o}ding)$, in Buan located on the Western Coast of Korea. The trichocerous cercariae, Cercaria pectinata, and its sporocysts parasitize mainly in the tissues of goand, digestive gland and gills of the hard clams. One branched sporocyst grows into a great number of cylindrical sporocysts, and a heavily infected clam possesses 2,000 to 5,000 cylindrical spo ro cysts. Each of them produces approximately 30 to 70 germinal cells and cercariae. Of 2,639 clams examined 347 individuals $(13.2\%)$ were found to be infected. The infection rates showed seasonal variations, the rate being highest $(29.6\%)$ in July, and lowest $(2.0\%)$ in March. Whereas, the infection rates did not change significantly with the changes of size class of the shell. No infection was observed in Meretrix petachialis (Lamarck) collected from Myeong-ji, Kimhae Gun located near Busan. In the iefected clams, the gametogenesis (oogenesis and apermatogenesis) did not undergo completely, therefore the heavily infected clam seemed to be castrated. Also the tissues of the digestive gland and gills were compressed by the multiplication of the parasites. When they were kept in aquariums in the laboratory, high mortality has occurred in the infected clams. All of the 60 infected clams died within 35 days.

  • Purpose: Intravenous sedation with midazolam is common in contemporary dentistry. That is effective for anxious patients, but additional analgesic agent needs to be used, because midazolam alone doesn't have an analgesic effect. This study was performed to select an analgesic agent between an opioid agent, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as adjunctives in intravenous sedation with midazolam. Methods: The subjects were 60 patients who visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University, between August 2009 and February 2010. Conscious sedation was performed on 20 patients of 3 groups (control group, ketorolac group, and fentanyl group), who were divided randomly. The analgesic agent was administrated preoperatively. For sedation, vital signs were recorded. After sedation and operation, subjective questionnaires of the patient and operator were implemented. Results: All of the $SPO_2$, blood pressure, and heart rates stayed within the normal range for sedation. The sedation depth and analgesic effect of the ketorolac group and fentanyl group were similar. In the case of sedation depth, 12 patients in the ketorolac group and 14 patients in the fentanyl group had no memory of surgery. In the case of analgesic effect, the visual analogue scale of pain scored 2~3 in 13 patients in the ketorolac group, and 0~2 in 12 patients in the fentanyl group. The satisfaction of patients and doctors was also similar. Conclusion: Considering the management and complication of an opioid agent, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is more effective than an opioid agent.

  • Lost packet robustness is an most important quality measure for voice over IP networks(VoIP). Recovery of the lost packet from the received information is crucial to realize this robustness. So, this paper proposes the lost packet recovery method from the received information for real-time communication for CELP coder. The proposed BS-PLC (Both Side Packet Loss Concealment) based WSOLA(Waveform Shift OverLab Add) allow the lost packet to be recovered from both the 'previous' and 'next' good packet as the LP parameter and the excitation signal are respectively recovered. The burst of packet loss is modeled by Gilbert model. The proposed scheme is applied to G.729 most used in VoIP and is evaluated through the SNR(signal to noise) and the MOS(Mean Opinion Score) test. As a simulation result, The proposed scheme provide 0.3 higher in Mean Opinion Score and 2 dB higher in terms of SNR than an error concealment procedure in the decoder of G.729 at $20\%$ average packet loss rate.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine differences between 20s and 60s in blood oxygen saturation due to 93% oxygen administration of the three levels(1L/min, 3L/min, 5L/min). Ten 20s male($25.0{\pm}1.8$ years), ten 20s female($23.7{\pm}1.9$ years), ten 60s male($68.0{\pm}2.6$ years), and ten 60s female($65.5{\pm}3.1$ years) were selected as the subjects for this study. The oxygen supply equipment(OXUS Co.) provided oxygen by supply rate(i.e., 1L/min, 3L/min, and 5L/min) at a constant rate of 93% oxygen. The experiment consisted of three phases, i.e., Prehyperoxia(5min), Hyperoxia(10min), and Post-hyperoxia(5min). Blood oxygen saturation were measured throughoutthe three phases. By increasing the amount of highly concentrated oxygen administration, blood oxygen saturation was increased. Blood oxygen saturation of 20s was higher than 60s. Blood oxygen saturation was greater during Hyperoxia than during Pre- and Post-hyperoxia. However, rising rate of blood oxygen saturation of 60s by oxygen administration was higher than 20s.

  • Introduction: GTPases known as translation factor play a vital role as ribosomal subunit assembly chaperone. The bacterial Obg proteins ($Spo{\underline{0B}}$-associated ${\underline{G}}TP$-binding protein) belong to the subfamily of P-loop GTPase proteins and now it is considered as one of the new target for antibacterial drug. The majority of bacterial Obgs have been commonly found to be associated with ribosome, implying that these proteins may play a fundamental role in ribosome assembly or maturation. In addition, one of the experimental evidences suggested that Bacillus subtilis Obg (BsObg) protein binds to the L13 ribosomal protein (BsL13) which is known to be one of the early assembly proteins of the 50S ribosomal subunit in Escherichia coli. In order to investigate binding mode between the BsObg and the BsL13, protein-protein docking simulation was carried out after generating 3D structure of the BsL13 structure using homology modeling method. Materials and Methods: Homology model structure of BsL13 was generated using the EcL13 crystal structure as a template. Protein-protein docking of BsObg protein with ribosomal protein BsL13 was performed by DOT, a macro-molecular docking software, in order to predict a reasonable binding mode. The solvated energy minimization calculation of the docked conformation was carried out to refine the structure. Results and Discussion: The possible binding conformation of BsL13 along with activated Obg fold in BsObg was predicted by computational docking study. The final structure is obtained from the solvated energy minimization. From the analysis, three important H-bond interactions between the Obg fold and the L13 were detected: Obg:Tyr27-L13:Glu32, Obg:Asn76-L13:Glu139, and Obg:Ala136-L13:Glu142. The interaction between the BsObg and BsL13 structures were also analyzed by electrostatic potential calculations to examine the interface surfaces. From the results, the key residues for hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction between the two proteins were predicted. Conclusion and Prospects: In this study, we have focused on the binding mode of the BsObg protein with the ribosomal BsL13 protein. The interaction between the activated Obg and target protein was investigated with protein-protein docking calculations. The binding pattern can be further used as a base for structure-based drug design to find a novel antibacterial drug.
