Development and Validation of a Vision-Based Needling Training System for Acupuncture on a Phantom Model

  • Background: Previous studies have investigated technology-aided needling training systems for acupuncture on phantom models using various measurement techniques. In this study, we developed and validated a vision-based needling training system (noncontact measurement) and compared its training effectiveness with that of the traditional training method. Methods: Needle displacements during manipulation were analyzed using OpenCV to derive three parameters, i.e., needle insertion speed, needle insertion angle (needle tip direction), and needle insertion length. The system was validated in a laboratory setting and a needling training course. The performances of the novices (students) before and after training were compared with the experts. The technology-aided training method was also compared with the traditional training method. Results: Before the training, a significant difference in needle insertion speed was found between experts and novices. After the training, the novices approached the speed of the experts. Both training methods could improve the insertion speed of the novices after 10 training sessions. However, the technology-aided training group already showed improvement after five training sessions. Students and teachers showed positive attitudes toward the system. Conclusion: The results suggest that the technology-aided method using computer vision has similar training effectiveness to the traditional one and can potentially be used to speed up needling training.

초고속 회전체용 공기 포일 베어링의 동특성 계수 측정을 위한 전자석 가진장치에 관한 연구 (Study on the Electromagnetic Excitation System for the Measurement of Dynamic Coefficients of Air Foil Bearing for High Speed Rotor)

  • Recently the requirement of long-term mobile energy source for mobile robot or small-sized unmanned vehicle is highly increased, and the micro turbine generator(MTG) which is known to have high energy and power density is under development. MTG is designed to have air foil bearing and high speed rotor of which operating speed is 400,000rpm. In the development stage of high speed rotor and bearing, stability analysis for the full operational speed range is essential and the dynamic coefficients such as stiffness and damping coefficients of bearing depending on the rotational speed are required for that. Although perturbation method is usually used to identify the dynamic coefficients, it's not easy to give the perturbation to the high speed rotating rotor. In this study, we present the dynamic coefficients measurement system for air foil bearing which consists of electromagnets, gap sensors, high speed motor and controller. This measurement system can exert the sine sweep force to the rotor-bearing, measure the displacement of rotor and get FRF(Frequency response function) of rotor-bearing. The least square estimation method is applied to identify the dynamic coefficients of bearing from the measured frequency response at the different rpm and the identified dynamic coefficients for the wide rotational speed range are presented.

  • Moire topography method is a well-known non-contacting 3-D measurement method. Recently, the automatic 3-D measurement by moire topography has been required since the method was frequently applied to the engineering and medical fields. 3-D measurement using digital projection moire topography is very attractive because of its high measuring speed and high sensitivity. In this paper, using different N-bucket algorithm method of digital projection moire topography is tested to measuring object with the 2$\pi$-ambiguity problem. Experimental results prove that the proposed scheme is capable of finding measurement errors that decreased more by using the flour-three step algorithm method than the same step in the phase shifting of different pitchs.

  • An electric railway system is composed of high-tech subsystems, among which main electric equipments such as transformers, converter and traction motors are critical components determining the performance of rolling stock. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of Korean High Speed Train. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. A new method to measure temperature was applied to the measurement system. By using the system, measurement and evaluation for the performance of electric equipments in Korean High Speed Train was conducted during test running.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually.   • Recently, as the road capacity reaches the limit and environmental problems becomes serious, there is gradually increased a need for railroad vehicles that are environment-friendly and have time regularity, reliability, and safety. Accordingly, in addition to conventional railroad vehicles, lots of vehicles are being newly developed. We developed the hardware and software of the measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of korean high speed train. The software controls the hardware of the measurement system and acts as interface between users and the system hardware. In this paper, practical experiment are performed to verify mechanical performance of motor and main transformer for Korean high speed rail. The experimental test carried out by using new temperature measurement method and verify the temperature performance of motor and transformer is verified.

  • The measurement of contact wire uplift in electric railway is one of the most test method to accept the maximum permitted speed of new vehicles or pantographs. The contact wire uplift can be measured for shot periods when pantograph is running in monitoring station. This paper describes the development of two different methods for contact uplift measurement using vision-based system and wireless online monitoring system. Our vision-based system employs a high-speed CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) camera with gigabit ethernet LAN. The development of a real-time remote monitoring system that acquires data from any kind of sensor to be transmitted by wireless communication from overhead line and structure at 25 kV to a computer in catenary system. The proposed two kind of different measurement systems to evaluation for dynamic uplift of overhead contact wire shows promising on-field applications for high speed train such as Korea Tilting Train (TTX) and Korea Train eXpress (KTX).

저속 충돌 제트로 생성되는 액막의 두께 분포 특성 연구 (A Study of the Characteristics of Thickness Distribution of Liquid Sheet Formed by Two Low Speed Impinging Jets)

  • In this study, the thickness of the liquid sheet formed by two low speed impinging jets was measured by the direct contact method. The effects of jet velocity and liquid viscosity on the thickness were analyzed and the results were compared with theoretical modeling and optical thickness measurement results. The liquid film thickness decreased as the radius and circumferential angle increased. The jet velocity did not affect the liquid film thickness as predicted in theoretical modeling. In the theoretical modeling, there was no influence of the fluid properties on thickness, but in the case of low viscosity liquids, the thickness was predicted high, and it was well matched in high viscosity liquids. The direct measurement results showed no significant difference from the optical measurement results, thus confirming the reliability of the optical measurement method.

차량에서 실시간 동반경 및 슬립율 측정 (The Real Time Measurement of Dynamic Radius and Slip Ratio at the Vehicle)

  • The tire delivering power generated from engine to the ground pulls a vehicle to move. Radius of tires is changeable due to elasticity that depends on the speed of vehicle and traction force. The main objectives on this study are real time measurement of dynamic radius and slip ratio according to the speed and traction force. The dynamic radius is proportional to speed and traction force. According to measurement, the dynamic radius is increased about 3mm under 100km/h compared to stop. It is also increased about 1.5mm when a traction force is supplied as much as 4kN compared to no load state at low speed. There is no strong relationship between slip ratio and vehicle speed. The slip ratio is measured up to 4% under WOT at first stage gear. Through this research, the method of measuring dynamic radius and slip ratio is set up and is expected to be applied to the measurement of traction force in chassis dynamometer or accelerating and climbing ability.
