A Vehicle Speed Detector Using AMR Sensors (AMR 센서를 이용한 차량 속도 검지기)

  • This paper proposes a vehicle speed detector with anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensors and addresses experimental results to show the performance of the detector. The detector consists of two AMR sensors and mechanical and electronic apparatuses. The AMR sensor senses disturbance of the earth magnetic field caused by a vehicle moving over the sensor and then produces an output indicative of the moving vehicle. In this paper, vehicle speeds are calculated by using two AMR sensors built on a board. The speed of a vehicle is calculated by dividing the known distance between the two sensors with the time difference between two output signals from each sensor, captured sequentially while the vehicle is driving over the sensors. Some field tests have been carried to show the performance of the proposed detector and its usefulness.

  • Recently, an expansion of safety facilities has been widely applied to effectively manage the safety of train operation due to increase of the high-speed section of the general railway and the introduction of high-speed train. Accordingly, performance improvement, upgrading and high reliability of existing safety devices are required. the dragging detector, one of the safety devices, is an analogue system that consists of closed circuit with an electric current flows and operates when the closed circuit is opened by the impact of the dragging object. Such method has unreasonable problem that should be replaced after being detected. It is need to replace with an automatic return type dragging detector which is easy to maintain. In addition, it is necessary to develop a dragging detector that applicable to general railway and urban railway including high-speed railway, in accordance with the speeding up and densification of trains, although it is currently applied only to high-speed railway. In this paper, we propose an automatic return type dragging detector which has versatility and excellent maintainability with digital sensor and real time monitoring.

  • In this paper the performance of the high speed circuit breaker with fault current detector is described. The operating mechanism of circuit breaker in use is a magnetic actuator and a fault current detector is based on the DSP and A/D converter. The results show that 3-cycle is enough to interrupt the fault current and the more speed up performance is expected with on-going project.

  • This paper presents a low-complexity design and implementation results of a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol detector for high speed wireless LAN (WLAN) systems. The proposed spatial division multiplexing (SDM) symbol detector is designed by HDL and synthesized to gate-level circuits using 0.18um CMOS library. The total gate count for the symbol detector is 238K.

  • A pedestrian detector can be applied for various purposes such as monitoring or counting the number of people in some place, or detecting the people plunging in the driveway. There was a lot of related research. But, the detection speed is slow in embedded system because of the limited computing power. An algorithm for fast pedestrian detector using HOG in ARM SIMD architecture is presented in this paper. There is a way to quickly remove the background of image and to improve the detection speed using NEON parallel technique. When we tested with INRIA Person Dataset, the proposed pedestrian detector improves the speed by 3.01 times than previous one.

  • The electrical frequency synchronized periodic torque ripple exits in the AC motor. There are various sources of torque ripple in AC motor such as current measurement error, dead time, etc. This paper proposes a compensation algorithm which suppresses undesired side effect known as the periodic torque ripple of AC motor. The torque ripple compensation classified as the speed ripple detector and torque ripple compensator. This paper proves a speed ripple minimization at steady state by analysis of torque ripple compensator. A new speed ripple detector improves the performance of torque ripple compensation algorithm. The simulation and experimental results show that the compensation algorithm is effective and the torque ripple compensation method improves the performance of speed ripple detector by eliminating torque ripples effectively.

Development of Automatic Incident Detection Algorithm Using Image Based Detectors (영상기반의 자동 유고검지 모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop automatic incident detection algorithm using image based detector in freeway management system. This algorithm was developed by using neutral network for high speed roadway and by using speed and occupancy variable for low speed roadway. The image detector system with the developed automatic incident detection algorithm can detect multi-lane as well as several detect areas for each lane. To evaluate this system, field tests to measure the detecting rate of incidents were performed with other systems which have APID and DES algorithm at high speed roadway(freeway) and low speed roadway(national arterial). As the results of field test, it found that the detect rate of this system was highest rate comparing to other two systems.

A Study on the Timing Recovery using Peak Detector in Underwater Acoustic Communication (수중음향통신에서 Peak Detector를 갖는 시간동기회복에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a timing recovery method using Gardner TED (Timing Error Detector) with a Peak Detector using Parabola Peak Interpolation in underwater acoustic communication. This method will have an eye to improve phase converge speed of timing recovery and reduced amount of Tx data. The OQPSK(Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation technique was considered. The proposed algorithm has faster recovery speed and more accurate than Gardner TED because the sampling values in the proposed algorithm are moved persistingly to maximum or minimum point using parabolic peak interpolation. when simulation performed using Preposed method, it improved BER (Bit Error Rate) performance about 23% And to evaluate the performances of the proposed algorithm the sea trial was performed in the Korean East Sea. And distance of a transmitter-receiver is 3 km each other. As a result, the proposed algorithm outperforms better BER performance about 20% of timing recovery than the Gardner method. Also Proposed method improved converge speed of timing recovery about 1.4 times better than Gardner method.

  • The most typical method to generate traffic information is installing vehicle detectors and collecting various traffic variables. The information collection accuracy of a vehicle detector affects the reliability of the generated traffic information. The most universal vehicle detector is an image detector. This study installed a magnetic detector in the same position as an image detector and evaluated the accuracy of traffic volume and speed data depending on a variety of environment. Based on the evaluation, more errors occurred as the image detector was placed farther from the camera, whereas more errors were found to occur during the night rather than the day. Although rainfall did not affect the collection of traffic volume, it negatively affected speed data collection. Therefore, an analysis of the camera's view angle and its optimization depending on the camera installation position and height are required to enhance the currently operated image detector performance. It is judged that a separate performance evaluation criterion should be prepared in a bad weather environment.

  • In this paper, a hew ground speed signal detector used for railway vehicles is presented. A frequency 6-multiplier is designed to the proposed speed signal detector to achieve more precise ground speed from the slow analog signals made from mechanical tacho signal generator. The computer simulation is carried out to clarify its effectiveness.
