The height of the atmospheric boundary layer indicates the peak developed when turbulence is generated by mixing heat and water vapor, and is generally determined through thermodynamic methods. Wind profilers produce atmospheric information from the scattering of signals sent into the atmosphere. A method for making the spectrum of turbulent components, turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate, and refractive index structure coefficient was presented to determine the atmospheric boundary layer depth. Compared with the vertical distribution characteristics of potential temperature and specific humidity based on radiosonde data, the determination method of the atmospheric boundary layer height from wind profiler output was evaluated as very useful.

We present results of the velocity-resolved spectroscopy of the [Fe II] $\lambda$1.644${\mu}m$ emission toward outflow sources with the Subaru Telescope at the angular resolution of 0.apos;16 ${\~}$ 0.apos;5 arcseconds. The observed sources are L1551 IRS 5, DG Tau, HL Tau and RW Aur, which are located in the Taurus-Aurigae Molecular Cloud, one of the closest star forming regions (0.apos;1 = 14 AU). We were able to resolve outflow structure in the vicinity of the sources at a scale of a few tens of AU. The position-velocity diagram of each object shows two velocity components: the high velocity component (HVC: 200 - 400 km $s^{-l}$) and the low velocity component (LVC: 50 - 150 km $s^{-l}$), which are clearly distinct in space and velocity. The HVC may be a highly collimated jet presumed from its narrow velocity width and high velocity. The LVC, on the other hand, may be a widely opened disk wind inferred from its broad velocity width and low velocity. The spectrum taken perpendicular to the L1551 IRS 5 outflow at its base shows that the LVC has a spatially wide subcomponent, supporting the above interpretation. We demonstrated that the [Fe II] 1.644 $\mu$ spectroscopy is a very powerful tool for the studies of fast jets and winds that directly emanate from star-disk systems.
Effect of the thermal poling on the 1.55 fm emission spectra in various Er$^{3+}$ -doped glasses was investigated with a special attention on the changes in the values of FWHM(Full Width at Half Maximum) intensity. Tellurite glasses poled at 28$0^{\circ}C$ with an electric voltage of 4 kV resulted in an approximately 6% increase in FWHM values compared with their unpoled counterparts. On the other hand, values for glasses, such as aluminosilicate, sulfide and chalcohalide, either decreased or remained unchanged. The characteristic results from tellurite glasses are most probably due to the presence of lone-pair electrons in the TeO$_4$ hi-pyramidal units that form the main network structure of tellurite glasses.
The optical characterization of self-assembled InAs/AlAs quantum dots(QD) grown by MBE were investigated using photoreflectance spectroscopy. The intensities of the signals of the GaAs buffer and wetting layer(WL) changed with the width of the WL layer. The PR spectrum for the sample, in which QDs layer were etched off at room temperature, indicated that the broadened signal ranging $1.1{\sim}1.4\;eV$ was originated from InAs QDs and WL. The intensities of signals of GaAs buffer and the WL changed with the WL width. A red shift of the PR peak of WL are observed when the annealing temperatures range from $450^{\circ}C$ to $750^{\circ}C$, which indicates that the interdiffusion between dots and capping layer is caused by improvement in size uniformity of QDs.

We have studied an organic layer and semitransparent Al electrode thickness dependent optical properties and microcavity effects for top-emission organic light-emitting diodes. Manufactured top-emission device structure is Al(100nm)/TPD(xnm)/Alq(ynm)/LiF(0.5nm)/Al(25nm). While a thickness of total organic layer was varied from 85nm to 165n, a ratio of those two layers was kept to be about 2:3. Semitransparent Al cathode was varied from 20nm to 30nm for the device with an organic layer total thickness of 140nm. As the thickness of total organic layer increases, the emission spectra show a shift of peak wavelength from 490nm to 580nm, and the full width at half maxima from 90nm to 35nm. The emission spectra show a blue shift as the view angle increases. Emission spectra depending on a transmittance of semitransparent cathode show a shift of peak wavelength from 515nm to 593nm. At this time, the full width at half maximum was about to be a constant of 50nm. With this kind of microcavity effect, we were able to control the emission spectra from the top-emission organic light-emitting diodes.

We have studied an organic layer thickness dependent optical properties and microcavity effects for top-emission organic light-emitting diodes. Manufactured top emission device, structure is Al(100nm)ITPD(xnm)/$Alq_3$(ynm)/LiF(0.5nm)/Al(23nm). While a thickness of hole-transport layer of TPD was varied from 35 to 65nm, an emissive layer thickness of $Alq_3$ was varied from 50 to 100nm for two devices. A ratio of those two layers was kept to about 2:3. Variation of the layer thickness changes a traverse time of injected carriers across the organic layer, so that it may affect on the chance of probability of exciton formation. View-angle dependent emission spectra were measured for the optical measurements. Top-emission devices show that the emission peak wavelength shifts to longer wavelength as the organic layer thickness increases. For instance, it shifts from 490 to 555nm in the thickness range that we used. View-angle dependent emission spectra show that the emission intensity decreases as the view-angle increases. The organic layer thickness-dependent emission spectra show that the full width at half maximum decreases as the organic layer thickness increases. Top emission devices show that the full width at half maximum changes from 90 to 35nm as the organic layer thickness increases. In top-emission device, the microcavity effect is more vivid as the organic layer thickness increases.
In this paper, two white light emitting diodes(LEDs) were manufactured by using two kinds of yellow phosphor, YAG:Ce and $(Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4:Eu$, and their spectroscopic properties were compared and analyzed. We found that the asymmetric double sigmoidal function can be applied to both white LEDs to obtain the center wavelength, the half width, and the skewness parameters. According to this analysis, the half width of the emitting spectrum of silicate phosphor was smaller than that of YAG phosphor, indicating smaller color rendering index. However, the silicate phosphor exhibited better color stability depending on the driving current than the YAG phosphor. The current dependence of the luminous efficacy of both white LEDs was investigated, which showed that efficacy decreased monotonically with current. The efficacy of the silicate-based white LED was lower than that of the YAG-based LED by about 10~12 lm/W.

RPWM(Random Pulse Width Modulation) techniques have been attracting an interest as an excellent reduction method of acoustic noise on the inverter drive system. Using randomly changed switching fre-quency of the inverter, the power spectrum of the electromagnetic acoustic noise can be spread out into the wide-band area. The wide band noise is much more comfortable and less annoying than the narrow-band one. This paper describes an implementationof the triangular carrier frequency modultde RPWM inverter drive system The poweer soedtrum of the noise emittde from the induction motro was measured in the anechoic chamber. The analysis of the sources for the acoustic noise and the effects of the noise reduction are confirmed by the ceasured dpectra of the noise. Real-time RPWM along with the speed control was achieved by high speed DSP(Digital Signal Processor ) TmS320C31, By changing the center frequency and the bandwidth of the carrier, theis real-time RPWM scheme can be used as an efficient switching frequency band acoustic noise reduction method for the inverter system with variant load conditions.

Theoretical analysis have been performed to design the high power semiconductor laser for an optical sensor at 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength range which is the lowest loss wavelength in optical fiber. The materials of active region and SCH were $Ln_{1-x}Ga_xAs_yP_{1-y}$. In order to use the light source of optical sensors, it has to satisfy wide spectral width and short coherence length. Therefore, in order to suppress lasing oscillation, we proposed laterally tilted PBH type with a window region. Also, tapered stripe structure was applied for high coupling efficiency into a single mode fiber. From these analyses, the devices of laterally tilted angled and bending structure were fabricated and their characteristics were measured. In the results of the measurement, the fabricated devices have sufficient output power and wide FWHM to apply to the light source of optical fiber sensors.

In this study, the performance of irregular wave field generation of olaFlow is first verified by comparing the frequency spectrum of the generated waves by the wave-source using olaFlow and the target wave. Based on the wave performance of irregular waves of olaFlow, the characteristics of the velocity field including the average flow velocity, longshore current and turbulent kinetic energy around the three-dimensional permeable submerged breakwaters, which act as the main external forces of the salient formation, are numerically investigated. The numerical results show that as the gap width between breakwaters decreases, the wave height in the center of the gap increases and as the gap width between breakwaters increases, the longshore currents become stronger. As a result, it is possible to understand the formation of the salient formed behind the submerged breakwaters.
