  • This study accurately measured the half-life of the 179Re radioactive isotope using the 100 MeV proton and high-purity HPGe gamma ray measurement system generated from a high-energy proton linear accelerator at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The result obtained is 19.64 ± 0.26 min. Compared with the past results of the half-life of the 179Re radioisotope known to date, the results of B. Harmatz published in 1960 and B. J. Meijer published in 1975 measured the median value higher than the results obtained in this study. In the case of K. J. Hofstetter, published in 1966, a very large error is also characteristic. This result showed a tendency that the center value was very consistent with the result of this study. The results of Coral M. Baglin's 19.5 min published in 2009 are very consistent with the error range. The obtained measured result was compared with the result of ENSDF (Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File). Through this study, more reliable values were measured for the results of the half-life of the 179Re, which was previously incorrect, and the validity of the recently published results of Coral M. Baglin was confirmed.

  • The essential oils of the two cultivars of Korean ginger were isolated by simultaneous steam distillation and extraction method. Then the essential oils were fractionated into one hydrocarbon fraction and two oxygented hydrocarbon fractions by using silica gel column chromatography. The composition of the resulting oils were investigated by GC-MS spectrometry. The volatile oil contents of the two fresh cultivars were 0.32%(wb) and consisted of 68.1% hydrocarbon and 31.9% oxygenated hydrocarbons. Out of 101 characterized compounds, 54 were identified by comparing GC retentions and mass spectral data with authentic samples and 47 were tentatively identified according to mass spectral data only. The major compounds of hydrocarbon fraction were camphene, ${\beta}-phellandrene$, zingiberene, ${\gamma}-bisabolene,\;{\bate}-sesquiphellandrene$, and of oxygenated hydrocarbon fractions were 1,8-cineol, neral, geranial, geranyl acetate, citronellol, geraniol and ${\alpha}-terpeneol+borneol$. Comparing the yield and composition of Korean ginger oil with those from other origins reported, Korean ginger oils showed good yields of oil, whilst those contained higher amounts of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons.

  • I presented three vector crustal magnetic anomaly components and six gradients by using spherical Slepian functions over the cap area of $20^{\circ}$ of radius centered on the South Pole. The Swarm mission, launched by European Space Agency(ESA) in November of 2013, was planned to put three satellites into the low-Earth orbits, two in parallel in East-West direction and one in cross-over of the higher altitude. This orbit configuration will make the gradient measurements possible in North-South direction, vertical direction, as well as E-W direction. The gravity satellites, such as GRACE and GOCE, have already implemented their gradient measurements for recovering the accurate gravity of the Earth and its temporal variation due to mass changes on the subsurface. However, the magnetic gradients have little been applied since Swarm launched. A localized magnetic modeling method is useful in taking an account for a region where data availability was limited or of interest was special. In particular, computation to get the localized solutions is much more efficient and it has an advantage of presenting high frequency anomaly features with numbers of solutions fewer than the global ones. Besides, these localized basis functions that were done by a linear transformation of the spherical harmonic functions, are orthogonal so that they can be used for power spectrum analysis by transforming the global spherical harmonic coefficients. I anticipate in scientific and technical progress in the localized modeling with the gradient measurements from Swarm and here will do discussion on the results of the localized solution to represent the three vector and six gradient anomalies over the Antarctic area from the synthetic data derived from a global solution of the spherical harmonics for the crustal magnetic anomalies of Swarm measurements.

  • During the routing process between nodes on the CR(Cognitive Radio) network conducting for efficient use of limited frequency resources, spectrum handover process due to the appearance of the PU occupies most of the routing latency, and also decreases the reliability of the path. In this paper, a cooperative routing protocol in a multi-channel environment is proposed. The source node broadcasts a message with available channel lists and probability of PU appearance during its route guidance. The intermediate nodes re-transmit the message, received from the source node, and update and maintain the information, status table of the path. The destination node determines the optimal path and sends a reply message to the selected path after it receives the messages from the intermediate nodes. The average probability of the PU appearance and the average time of the PU appearance are updated while transferring data. During data transmission the channel with the lowest probability of appearance of the PU is selected dynamically and if a PU appears on the current channel partial repairment is performed. It is examined that reliability of the selected path considerably is improved and the routing cost is reduced significantly compared to traditional routing methods.

  • This study investigates the time-space characteristics of intra-urban passenger flows in the Metropolitan Seoul area. In particular, we analyze the relationships between transit ridership and land use through the use of the subway passenger flow data obtained from the transit transaction databases. For this purpose, the strength of each subway station, i.e., the number of total in-coming and out-going passengers at each station, in the morning, afternoon, and evening, is calculated and visualized, which reflects urban land use patterns. Then the subway stations are classified into four groups via a hierarchical analysis of the in-coming and out-going passenger flows at 353 stations. Each group appears to have characteristic properties according to the region, e.g., residential areas and central business districts. This has been confirmed by the analysis which probes explicitly the relationship between the local socio-economic variables and station groups. This analysis, disclosing the inter-relationship between the subway network and urban land use, may be useful at various stages in urban as well as transportation planning, and provides analytical tools for a wide spectrum of applications ranging from impact evaluation to decision-making and planning support.

  • As the number of earthquakes gradually increases on the Korean Peninsula, much research has been actively conducted to detect earthquakes quickly and accurately. Because traditional seismic stations are expensive to install and operate, recent research is currently being conducted to detect earthquakes using low-cost MEMS sensors. In this article, we evaluate how a low-cost MEMS acceleration sensor installed in a smartphone can be used to detect earthquakes. To this end, we installed about 280 smartphones at various locations in Korea to collect acceleration data and then assessed the installed sensors' noise floor through PSD calculation. The noise floor computed from PSD determines the magnitude of the earthquake that the installed MEMS acceleration sensors can detect. For the last few months of real operation, we collected acceleration data from 200 smartphones among 280 installed smartphones and then computed their PSDs. Based on our experiments, the MEMS acceleration sensor installed in the smartphone is capable of observing and detecting earthquakes with a magnitude 3.5 or more occurring within 10km from an epic center. During the last several months of operation, the smartphone acceleration sensor recorded an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 in Miryang on December 30, 2019, and it was confirmed as an earthquake using STA/LTA which is a simple earthquake detection algorithm. The earthquake detection system using MEMS acceleration sensors is expected to be able to detect increasing earthquakes more quickly and accurately.

  • An accurate and fast running NEDAR model for calculating radial power profile throughout fuel life in both solid and annular pellets for existing and advanced CANDU-PHWR-fuel was developed in this work. This model contains resultant flux depression equations and neutron depression data tables which have been developed for CANDU-PHWR fuel of pellet with the diameter 8.0 to 19.5 mm and enrichment 0.71-6.0 wt % U-235, over a bumup range of 0 to 840 MWh /kgU (35000 MWD/T). In order to obtain the neutron flux distribution in the fuel pellet, the CE-HAMMER physics code was run for a neutron flux spectrum appropriate to a CANDU-PHWR to give predictions of radial power profile for several ranges of fuel design parameters. The results, which were calculated by the CE-HAMMER physics code, were fitted to an equation which is solved in terms of Bessel and exponential functions in order to obtain the parameters, $textsc{k}$, $\beta$ and λ in the resultant equation. The present NEDAR model produce a radial profile which, when normalized to unity at the pellet surface, is slightly higher than the profile of the original ELESIM data table. The predictions of the fission gas release by KAFEPA-NEDAR are in slightly better agreement with the experiments than those of ELESIM. The NEDAR model described in this study has been shown to provide an effective, reliable, and accurate method for determining radial power profiles in CANDU-PHWR fuel rods without incurring a significant increase in computing time.

  • For this study, which was conducted in the summer from $2004\sim2007$, 10 small and medium sized streams in Korea were selected(Munsan and Gokreung Stream in the Han River watershed, Mi, Ssanggye and Nam Stream in the Nakdong River watershed, Gapeong and Jojong Stream in the Bukhan River watershed, Cheongmi, Yanghwa and Bokha Stream in the Namhan River watershed), and plant surveys were performed using the belt transect method on the most natural 1km sections of each stream in order to clarify the natural environment condition of the plants in each stream. In the results of the plant survey, the total number of plant species recorded was 296. After selecting 121 species of those surveyed plant in order of frequency, an RDA(Redundancy Analysis) and a Pearson Correlation Analysis were performed to determine the correlation between the selected plant species and environmental factors( such as distance from channel, size of bed material, number of bars, altitude, bed slope, width of channel, and measured data of water quality) of the study sites. There was no significant correlation between the 121 plant species and altitude, bed slope, and number of bars at the research sites, but the correlation of plant species with size of bed material, width of channel, electrical conductivity, and phosphate$(PO_4-P)$ concentration was from very high to moderate. Also, the spectrum of these plant species reflects the actual environmental conditions so the method used in the study seems to be correct, but owing to the range of diversity, the results of the study seem to be difficult to extend to other streams. Nevertheless, it is expected that this data can be used as a basic material for researching plants by stream characteristics or in selecting plant species for streams.

  • The objective of this study is to propose the measurement system implementation method for the evaluation and measurement of the indoor-impulsive over 170 dB noise source. For the purpose of measuring impulse noise, design and implementation constructed followed subsystems of the testing center, microphone, ear simulator, head and torso simulator and so on. Measurement systems for the accuracy and reliability of impulse noise are implemented when measuring 3 ways of measurements method by the simultaneous measurement system design. For the accuracy and reliability of three mutually indoor-impulse noise measurements were compared, three kinds of measuring methods in accordance with the peak sound pressure level and octave band. Comparing the results of data, the indoor-impulse noise by analyzing a frequency characteristic was validated in difference for the statistical significance. Result are determined by the influence of the reflected wave. Therefore, the flexible size of the interior test site while interior impulse noise measurement system was constructed. Throughout this system can be affected by parameters that are the impulse noise source and the corresponding frequency-characteristic analysis to determine the spectrum of the reflected wave. And, in the near future, indoor impulse noise measurement systems for acquisition and analysis are utilized in useful data.

  • This paper proposes a method for modeling new fault ground motion due to moderate size earthquakes in Stable Continental Regions (SCRs) for the first time. The near fault ground motion is characterized by a single long period velocity pulse of large amplitude. In order to model the velocity pulse, its period and peak amplitude need be determined in terms of earthquake magnitude and distance from the causative fault. Because there have been observed very few new fault ground motions, it is difficult to derive the model directly from the recorded data in SCRs. Instead an indirect approach is adopted in this work. The two parameters, the period and peak amplitude of the velocity pulse, are known to be functions of the rise time and the slip velocity. For Western United States (WUS) that belongs active tectonic regions, there art empirical formulas for these functions. The relations of rise time and slip velocity on the magnitude in SCRs are derived by comparing related data between Western United States and Central-Eastern United States that belongs to SCRs. From these relations, the functions of these pulse parameters for NFGM in SCRs can be expressed in terms of earthquake magnitude and distance. A time history of near fault ground motion of moderate magnitude earthquake in stable continental regions is synthesized by superposing the velocity pulse on the for field ground motion that is generated by stochastic method. As an demonstrative application, the response of a single degree of freedom elasto-plastic system is studied.
