  • Measuring spectral reflectance can be regarded as obtaining inherent color parameters, and spectral reflectance has been used in image processing. Model-based spectrum recovering, one of the method for obtaining spectral reflectance, uses ordinary camera with multiple illuminations. Conventional model-based methods allow to recover spectral reflectance efficiently by using only a few parameters, however it requires some parameters such as power spectrum of illuminations and spectrum sensitivity of camera. In this paper, we propose an enhanced model-based spectrum recovering method without pre-measured parameters: power spectrum of illuminations and spectrum sensitivity of camera. Instead of measuring each parameters, spectral reflectance can be efficiently recovered by estimating and using the spectrum characteristic matrix which contains spectrum parameters: basis function, power spectrum of illumination, and spectrum sensitivity of camera. The spectrum characteristic matrix can be easily estimated using captured images from scenes with color checker under multiple illuminations. Additionally, we suggest fast recovering method preserving positive constraint of spectrum by nonnegative basis function of spectral reflectance. Results of our method showed accurately reconstructed spectral reflectance and fast constrained estimation with unmeasured camera and illumination. As our method could be conducted conveniently, measuring spectral reflectance is expected to be widely used.

  • The uniform hazard spectrum of Wolsong Nuclear Power plant Site is computed in order to estimate probabilistically the characteristics of spectral ground response. The spectral hazard values calculated from the seismic zoning maps proposed by eight seismologist are combined with equal weight to produce a uniform hazard spectrum. The uniform hazardd spectra corresponding to reference probabilities of 1.0 $\times$10-4/year and 1.0$\times$10-5/year are presented, which largely depend on the spectral attenuation relation. The computational results of this study contribute to verify the conservatism of the design ground spectrum of Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant.

  • In this letter, we investigate the spectral efficiency of IEEE 802.22 wireless regional area network (WRAN) spectrum overlay when it is used in TV white space. Since 2004, when the FCC published the notice of proposed rule making 04-186 to make use of unused TV spectrum, the IEEE 802.22 working group has been standardizing specifications for WRAN operations. There have been a few papers investigating the spectral efficiency of this, but their analyses were limited to the cases for various guard distances between WRAN base stations. Since WRAN base station (BS) power for WRAN service may differ from country to country, it is important to analyze the spectral efficiency for various WRAN BS powers. In this letter, we analyze the spectral efficiency of WRAN spectrum overlay as a function of the power of WRAN BSs. The simulation results show that spectral efficiency decreases as the power of WRAN BSs and guard distances increase.

  • Recently reported asynchronous-optical-sampling terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy enables high-resolution spectroscopy due to a long time-delay window. However, a long-lasting tail signal following the main pulse is often measured in a time-domain waveform, resulting in spectral fluctuation above a background noise level on a high-resolution THz amplitude spectrum. Here, we adopt the wavelet power spectrum estimation technique (WPSET) to effectively remove the spectral fluctuation without sacrificing spectral features. Effectiveness of the WPSET is verified by investigating a transmission spectrum of water vapor.

  • In this paper the power spectrum of background EEG is estimated by the LMS PHD based on least mean square. At the power spectrum estimatiom, the stocastic process of background EEG is assumed to consist of the nonharmonic sinusoid and the white noise. In the LMS PHD the model parameters are obtained by the least mean square at optimal order which is obtained from the fact that the eigenvalue's fluctuation of autocorrelation matrix of the normal back-ground EEG is smaller at some order than at other order when the power spectrum of background EEG is esitmated by PHD. The optimal order of this model is the 6-th order when the eigenvalue's fluctuation of autocorrelation matrix of background EEG is considered. The estimation results are with compared the results from the Maximum Entropy Spectral Estimation and Pisarenko Harmonic Decomposition. From the comparison results. The LMS PHD is possible to estimate the power spectrum of background EEG.

  • Acceleration time history used in the seismic analysis of nuclear power plant structures should envelop a target power spectral density (PSD) function in addition to the design response spectrum in order to have sufficient energy at each frequency for the purpose of ensuring adequate load. The safety for complex long-span highway bridges cannot be over-emphasize. An alternative method to improve the seismic capacity is to ensure the minimum PSD function of the applied seismic load. This study proposes a technical scheme to obtain the reference power spectral density function by using artificial earthquakes which are compatible with the highway bridge design spectrum.

  • In this paper, we propose an artificial intelligence based spectrum allocation scheme for power line communication system. The frequency band of the transmitted signal can be adjusted through the spectrum allocation technique, thereby avoiding interference. This improves the performance of the transmission signal and the spectral efficiency. Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed spectrum allocation technique improves the spectral efficiency and improve the communication performance.

  • This paper presents an alleviant technique for solving ill-conditioned linear systems using spectral adaptive mapping, which is based on spectral mapping theorem. The conventional approaches to solve the ill-conditioned linear systems are divided into reformulation and alleviant technique. So far, the alleviant technique is evaluated the most effective one. In this paper, an adaptive mapping of spectrum is adopted to alleviate the condition number of ill-conditioned linear systems. A shift constant, which is a dominant factor of the spectral adaptive mapping that are proposed, is assessed by the system spectrum. The proposed spectral adaptive mapping technique is tested to demonstrated the validation on several size Hilbert matrices and small scale power systems, which are provide the promising results.

  • The wind profiler radar provides a standing profile of the wind vector and the atmospheric physical signal for the fixed point. Since the wind vector is calculated by the manufacturer's data processing program, the quality control of the date is limited. Therefore, understanding and exploiting the raw spectrum data need to improve the quality of the wind vector. The raw data of the wind vector is the power spectral density stored in binary form. In this study, an algorithm was completed to transform the raw data into the real spectral density, and the use of raw data was evaluated by retrieving zero-order and first-order moments of the spectral based on the spectrum quality control.
