There is a heavy stocked wood volume in the forest of Kang-Won Province compared with the other forests of Korean Provinces. It mainly, however, consists of non-productive and inferior hardwoods and shrubs which grows naturally. -This naturally grown hardwood forest should be cut and reforested with more economical confierous and diciduous tree species by artificial and natural regeneration under the positive government support. This study was carried out to survey the reasonable and economical utilization measures on harvesting wood products when existing hardwood forest should be cut primarily. This is the rust report on the resources and the classification of tree species by the uses of wood growing in the hardwood forest of Kang-Won Province. According to the investigation, 321 hardwood species are growing in this forest, and 141 species of them are extremely not suitable for wood production. The usable species as fuel wood was 180, and these are able to classify into the 22 groups by the uses of wood.
We performed taxonomic reviews and habitat circumstances survey for 41 un-introduced environmentally harmful plants (as designated by the Ministry of Environment, Korea in 2016). For this purpose, we investigated plant specimens from several herbaria and performed a field survey in the southeastern region of the United States. Base on the result, we presented the most comprehensive results of weed risk evaluation and taxonomic description up to now as well as classification keys for 11 species to apply the regulation management of putative invasive alien species - Centaurea maculosa Lam., Centaurea diffusa Lam., Mikania micrantha Kunth. (Asteraceae), Cenchrus echinatus L., Neyraudia reynaudiana (Kunth) Keng ex Hitchcock, Brachiaria mutica (Forsskål) Stapf, Vulpia bromoides (L.) Gray, Lolium persicum Boissier & Hohennacker, Setaria palmifolia (J. Konig) Stapf (Poaceae), Prosopis glandulosa Torr. (Fabaceae), Fallopia baldschuanica (Regel) Hobub. (Polygonaceae).
Broadband echoes measured in live chub mackerel Scomber japonicus, goldeye rockfish Sebastes thompsoni, and fat greenling Hexagrammos otakii with different morphologies and internal characteristics were analyzed in time and frequency domains to understand the species-specific echo feature characteristics for classifying fish species. The mean echo image for each time-frequency representation dataset obtained as a function of orientation angle was extracted to mitigate the effect of fish orientation on acoustic scattering. The joint time-frequency content of the broadband echo signals was obtained using the smoothed pseudo-Wigner-Ville distribution (SPWVD). The SPWVDs were analyzed for each echo signature of the three fish species. The results show that the time-frequency analysis provided species-specific echo structure patterns and metrics of the broadband acoustic signals to facilitate fish species classification.
In recent years, the knowledge about bifidobacteria has considerably evolved thanks to recent progress in molecular biology. The analysis of the whole genome sequences of 48 taxa of bifidobacteria offers new perspectives for their classification, especially to set up limit between two species. Indeed, several species are presenting a high homology and should be reclassified. On the other hand, some subspecies are presenting a low homology and should therefore be reclassified into different species. In addition, a better knowledge of the genome of bifidobacteria allows a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in complex carbohydrate metabolism. The genome of some species of bifidobacteria from human but also from animal origin demonstrates high presence in genes involved in the metabolism of complex oligosaccharides. Those species should be further tested to confirm their potential to metabolize complex oligosaccharides in vitro and in vivo.
This study was carried out in Mt. Backdu which is located at the borderland between Korea and China, to offer the information and help the people who in order to study and utilize the northernresource plants in future. Actually, the exploration and investigation were executed only in china sideof Mt. Backdu and its outskirts.Totally, 100 families, 281 genus and 703 species were investigated. They were classified into 26 spe-cies of pteridophyta, 14 species of gymnospermae, 101 species of monocotyledons and 562 species of di-cotyledons by general taxonomic classification, and 594 medicinal plants(84.5% ), 296 ornamentalplants(38.3% ), 161 edible plants(22.9% ), 92 industrial plants, 67 honey plants and 17 forage plantsby use.
This list contains all the species of mushrooms recorded in Korea and the Korean name for the species. Since the Korean Society of Mycology reported the mushroom name list of 588 species from 190 genera in 1978 for a unification of Korean name for mushrooms many papers and illustrated books have added the name of recorded mushrooms to the list. However, we have been confused with the scientific name and the Korean name for the fungi due to a inappropriate arrangement and an incomplete classification system of Korean mushrooms. Therefore, I rearranged 885 species from 261 genera, which have been reporeted in Korea, based on the recently published documents such as Ainsworth et al. (1973), Singer (1986) and Imazeki and Hongo (1987 and 1988).
We performed taxonomic reviews and habitat circumstances survey for 41 un-introduced environmentally harmful plants (as designated by the Ministry of Environment, Korea in 2016). And we investigated plant specimens from several herbaria and performed a field survey in the southeastern region of the United States. Based on the result, we presented the most comprehensive results of weed risk evaluation and taxonomic description up to now as well as classification keys for 11 species to apply the regulation management of putative invasive alien species - Senecio madagascariensis Poir., Sphagneticola trilobata (L.) Pruski, Ageratina riparia (Regel) R.M. King & H. Rob. (Asteraceae), Andropogon gayanus Kunth (Poaceae), Echinocystis lobata (Michx.) Torr. & A. Gray (Cucurbitaceae), Salvinia minima Baker (Salviniaceae), Vincetoxicum rossicum (Kleopow) Barbar. (Asclepiadaceae), Asparagus asparagoides (L.) Druce (Asparagaceae), Alternanthera pungens Kunth (Amaranthaceae), Salpichroa origanifolia (Lam.) Thell., and Lycium ferocissimum Miers (Solanaceae).
Hyperion, as hyperspectral data, is carried on NASA’s EO-1 satellite, can be used in more subtle discrimination on forest cover, with 224 band in 360 ?2580 nm (10nm interval). In this study, Hyperion image is used to investigate the effects of topography on the classification of forest cover, and to assess whether the topographic correction improves the discrimination of species units for practical forest mapping. A publicly available Digital Elevation Model (DEM), at a scale of 1:25,000, is used to model the radiance variation on forest, considering MSR(Mean Spectral Ratio) on antithesis aspects. Hyperion, as hyperspectral data, is corrected on a pixel-by-pixel basis to normalize the scene to a uniform solar illumination and viewing geometry. As a result, the approach on topographic effect normalization in hyperspectral data can effectively reduce the variation in detected radiance due to changes in forest illumination, progress the classification of forest cover.
The genus Cryptomonas is easily recognized by having two flagella, green brownish color, and a swaying behavior. They have relatively simple morphology, and limited diagnostic characters, which present a major difficulty in differentiating between species of the genus. To understand species delineation and phylogenetic relationships among Cryptomonas species, the nuclear-encoded internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2), partial large subunit (LSU) and small subunit ribosomal DNA (rDNA), and chloroplast-encoded psbA and LSU rDNA sequences were determined and used for phylogenetic analyses, using Bayesian and maximum likelihood methods. In addition, nuclear-encoded ITS2 sequences were predicted to secondary structures, and were used to determine nine species and four unidentified species from 47 strains. Sequences of helix I, II, and IIIb in ITS2 secondary structure were very useful for the identification of Cryptomonas species. However, the helix IV was the most variable region across species in alignment. The phylogenetic tree showed that fourteen species were monophyletic. However, some strains of C. obovata had chloroplasts with pyrenoid while others were without pyrenoid, which used as a key character in few species. Therefore, classification systems depending solely on morphological characters are inadequate, and require the use of molecular data.
Structuer, ontogeny, classification and taxonomic significance of trichomes have been studied in 39 genera and 125 species of the selected families in Malvales. They were studied on both vegetative and floral organs. There are nine types of eglandular and eight of glandular trichomes. The trichomes were classified on the basis of their form, structure and contents. All of them originated from a single papillate hair initial. According to the trichome data, the Malvales was comfirmed as a natural order with 5 homogenous families: Malvaceae, Bombacaceae, Sterculiaceae, Tiliaceae, and Elaeocarpaceae.
