  • As the average size of web sites gets larger, users tend to experience more severe problems while navigating through the sites. In order to alleviate the navigation-related problems, this paper proposes two new navigation systems based on the spatial metaphor to the navigation in the real world. Prototypes of the two system, Complete Route Navigation(CRN) and Complete Survey Navigation(CSN), were developed and applied to four versions of test bed web sites, which were then used in an experiment to test the effectiveness of the two navigation systems. Results from the experiment indicate that the two systems are indeed effective in aiding users to navigate in a large scale web site, and have more positive impacts when provided together. This paper ends with the limits of the study results and their implications to the development of large-scale web sites.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a method that can estimate the height of reaction facilities for large structural experiment through load flow as primary design procedure. The characteristic of the load transmission according to the type of experiment was analyzed to obtain tensile and compressive forces occurring on the reaction facilities. Strong walls that are affected by the bending moment is applied the post-tensioning method, and the strong floor under the control of the tension and compression is designed in accordance with the load flow. And the optimum cross-section of the reaction facilities was obtained by comparing the stresses of the tensile stress and crack the concrete. Through validating elastic analysis, the design results were satisfied a given design conditions.

  • The Paper presents three methods for calculating the natural frequencies of cantilevered curved Beams. A summary is given of the development of two techniques: theoretic value and the result of the experiment. Theoretic value of curved beam vibration analysis are derived from complementary variational principles assuming as unknown stress-displacement result fields. In order to perform free vibration analysis of curved beam, Aluminum-made cantilevered curved beam is used in experiment. Experimental input and output signals are derived from the impact hammer and the one accelemeter are amplificated by an amplifier. The validity of the modal analysis method

  • Low spatial resolution remote sensing (RS) data (LSRD) are promising in agricultural monitoring activities due to their high temporal resolution, but under such a spatial resolution, mixing in a pixel is a common problem. In this study, a numerical experiment was conducted to explore a mixed pixel problem in agriculture using a combined RSsimulation model SWAP (Soil-Water-Atmosphere -Plant) and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) approach. Results of the experiments showed that it is highly possible to address the mixed pixel problem with LSRD.

  • In this paper, by using pseudo-inverse matrix of the spatial redundant flexible manipulators, a position control method and its effect in vibration suppression was presented. Vibration suppression control was developed using lumped mass spring model of the flexible manipulators. With 2 elastic links and 7 rotory joint manipulator ADAM, (1)position control for no redundancy, and (2)position control for one redundant DOF(degree of freedom) were tested. The objective of this experiment is to show the effect of position control, using pseudo-inverse matrix. toward the improvement of operation, and at the same time, to reduce the vibration of the link and the magnitude of the joint torque.

  • Graphical processing unit (GPU) contains many arithmetic logic units (ALUs). Because many ALUs can be exploited to process parallel processing, GPU provides efficient data processing. The spatial data require many geographic coordinates to represent the shape of them in a map. The coordinates are usually stored as geodetic longitude and latitude. To display a map in 2-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system, the geodetic longitude and latitude should be converted to the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system. The conversion to the other coordinate system and the rendering process to represent the converted coordinates to screen use complex floating-point computations. In this paper, we propose a parallel processing technique that processes the conversion and the rendering using the GPU to improve the performance. Large spatial data is stored in the disk on files. To process the large amount of spatial data efficiently, we propose a technique that merges the spatial data files to a large file and access the file with the method of memory mapped file. We implement the proposed technique and perform the experiment with the 747,302,971 points of the TIGER/Line spatial data. The result of the experiment is that the conversion time for the coordinate systems with the GPU is 30.16 times faster than the CPU only method and the rendering time is 80.40 times faster than the CPU.

  • Spatial downscaling is often applied to coarse scale satellite products with high temporal resolution for environmental monitoring at a finer scale. An area-to-point regression kriging (ATPRK) algorithm is regarded as effective in that it combines regression modeling and residual correction with area-to-point kriging. However, an open source tool or package for ATPRK has not yet been developed. This paper describes the development and code organization of an R-based spatial downscaling tool, named R4ATPRK, for the implementation of ATPRK. R4ATPRK was developed using the R language and several R packages. A look-up table search and batch processing for computation of ATP kriging weights are employed to improve computational efficiency. An experiment on spatial downscaling of coarse scale land surface temperature products demonstrated that this tool could generate downscaling results in which overall variations in input coarse scale data were preserved and local details were also well captured. If computational efficiency can be further improved, and the tool is extended to include certain advanced procedures, R4ATPRK would be an effective tool for spatial downscaling of coarse scale satellite products.

  • In this paper, we focus on the filtering step of candidate objects for spatial join operations on the input tables that none of the inputs is indexed. Over the last decade, several spatial Join algorithms for the input tables with index have been extensively studied. Those algorithms show excellent performance over most spatial data, while little research on solving the performance degradation in the presence of skewed data has been attempted. Therefore, we propose a spatial hash strip join(SHSJ) algorithm that can refine the problem of skewed data in the conventional spatial hash Join(SHJ) algorithm. The basic idea is similar to the conventional SHJ algorithm, but the differences are that bucket capacities are not limited while allocating data into buckets and SSSJ algorithm is applied to bucket join operations. Finally, as a result of experiment using Tiger/line data set, the performance of the spatial hash strip join operation was improved over existing SHJ algorithm and SSSJ algorithm.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the conceptions about altitude of the Sun of elementary students according to differences by the spatial ability. In this study through the qualitative analysis, 4 students who were similar understanding levels of concepts to altitude of the Sun and differences by the spatial ability were selected out of 75 in 6th grade elementary located in Sunchang, Jellabuk-do Province. 4 students for the qualitative analysis were selected by the test instrument of spatial ability and altitude of the Sun. The results of study was students with higher spatial ability were higher understanding levels of concepts to altitude of the Sun. However, both of student with higher and lower spatial ability showed a false concept to the expanded concepts into outer space like a cause of seasonal change, change of altitude of the Sun by latitude unlike the intution. Students with lower spatial ability didn't form the scientific concepts, not only a cause of seasonal change and change of altitude of the Sun but also difference of energy density by altitude of the Sun. A student of two with lower spatial ability has been impediment strongly to form the scientific concept by the false concepts to the distance. The findings were as follows; Learning to altitude of the Sun regardless of the difference of spatial ability should be learned to interact to the intution, celestial movement and model experiment. To students with lower spatial ability should be developed teaching methods to understand the relation between the Sun and celestial movement.

  • A method using beamforming has been developed to measure absorption coefncient of oblique incidence. MUSIC(Multiple Signal Classification) method detects the angle of incidence and reflection. And beamforming method separates the incident and reflected wave. And spatial smoothing technique is used to reduce the coherence between the incident and reflected wave. The test material were modeled as a locally reacting surface. Numerical and experiment results are performed to verify the performance of proposed method.
