  • Selective attention induces perceptual distortions. ranging from repulsion of objects located near the attended area(Suzuki & Cavanagh. 1997) to magnification of the u unattended objects (Tsal & Shalev. 1996). Two hypothetical mechanisms have been p postulated: a shift of receptive fields' positions away from the locus of attention(receptive-field-recruitment hypothesis) or the enlargement of perceived space around the a attended location(space-enlargement hypothesis). The present study distinguished between these hypotheses by investigating the spatial and temporal properties of attention-induced d distortions. Perceptual judgements on vernier alignment. line tilt. line length were used to measure attention-induced changes in perception. Attention was induced exogenously(by blinking a specific set of dots around the test stimuli} or endogenously(by instructing the subject to selectively attend the dots). After inducing attention. the test stimuli were briefly flashed. A staircase method was used to measure the attentional effect. A vertical line was perceived as repelled from the locus of attention. and a line segment appeared longer when attention was given to its vicinity. The effects decreased as the distance between the locus of attention or the time between the onset of attention and the stimulus presentation increased. The results imply that the space-enlargement hypothesis provides a better explanation for the attention-induced changes in perception than the receptive-field-recruitment hypothesis.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for autonomous landing approach of a unmanned aerial vehicle. The main purpose of the autonomous landing approach in this study is to help a safe landing at night. From any initial position of the aircraft when this function is engaged, a flight path command is generated from the initial position. The shortest combination of an initial circular arc, a straight line segment, and a final circular arc is chosen for the flight path that will lead the aircraft to one end of runway for a landing. The algorithm is initially validated through numerous simulations with various initial conditions of aircraft. Then it is successfully validated through a number of flight tests.

  • In impermeable ground, water pressure is applied due to discontinuity such as joint or fissure. Therefore, water pressure should be considered in design regardless of ground condition. However, when the shape of segmental lining is circular, water pressure may reduce the lining member force, so it is important to define the assumption and the concept of design in case of high water pressure. This paper presents the concepts of design of the lining of shield tunnel at high water pressure and in impermeable ground condition. In addition, the member forces in various load conditions were compared in this study. (elastic equation, closed form solutions, beam-spring model).

  • Steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) is widely used for tunnel lining structure such as shot-crete in NATM tunnel and segment in TBM tunnel. In tunnel fire accidents, structural performance of a lining is very important because the lining is the structure that directly exposed to fire. In this study, the effects of high temperatures, mix ratios and types on failure pattern, DPT tensile strength and coefficient of variation were investigated through Double Punch Tests (DPT) of SFRC subjected to high temperatures. In the results, it is confirmed that the residual DPT tensile strength increases as for SFRC and this is more in SFRC with higher mix ratio. But, the equation for evaluation of DPT tensile strength does not involve the number of failure surfaces SFRC specimens subjected to high temperatures, therefore, it is required to investigate more fracture energy in DPT tests.

  • Objective : To evaluate the relationship between postoperative increase in intervertebral disc space height (IVH) and posterior axial neck in cases of degenerative cervical disease treated with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Methods : A total of 155 patients who underwent ACDF with more than 1 year follow up were included. Radiologically, IVH and interfacet distance (IFD) of the operated segment were measured preoperatively and postoperatively. We clinically evaluated neck and arm pains according to visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and assessed neck disability index (NDI) scores preoperatively, postoperatively, at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year postoperatively. The relationship between radiological parameters, and clinical scores were analyzed using a regression analysis. Results : The mean increase in IVH was 2.62 mm, and the mean increase in IFD was 0.67 mm. The VAS scores for neck pain preoperatively, postoperatively, and at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year postoperatively were 4.46, 2.11, 2.07, 1.95, and 1.29; those for arm pain were 5.89, 3.24, 3.20, 3.03, and 2.18. The NDI scores were improved from 18.52 to 7.47. No significant relationship was observed between the radiological evaluation results regarding the increase in intervertebral height or interfacet distance and clinical changes in VAS or NDI scores. Conclusion : The increase in intervertebral space or interfacet distance by the insertion of a large graft material while performing ACDF for the treatment of degenerative cervical disease was not related with the change in VAS scores for neck and arm pains and NDI scores postoperatively and during the follow-up period.

  • In order to reduce the amount of steel reinforcements in TBM tunnel segments, the use of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete(SFRC) is being tried. The steel fibers with higher aspect ratio than that used in tunnel shotcrete are preferred to compensate the deficiency in tensile strength of the segments. In this study, the tensile properties of SFRC with aspect ratio of steel fibers equal to 80 were evaluated through flexural test and Double Punch Test. In the results of flexural test, flexural strengths of the SFRC were increased about 30%~150% thanks to bond of steel fibers used to concrete and could be properly predicted by the equation proposed by Oh(2008). There was a great difference in the estimated direct tensile strengths of the SFRC by the equations presented in ACI and RILEM. It was found that the Double Punch Test could be suitable methodology to estimate the direct tensile strength presented in RILEM of the SFRC.

  • In this paper we propose an effective method to represent, store, and retrieve video streams efficiently from a video database. We extract features from each video frame, normalize the feature values, and represent them as values in the range [0,1]. In this way a video frame with f features can be represented by a point in the f-dimensional space $[0,1]^f$, and thus the video stream is represented by a trail of points in the multidimensional space. The video stream is partitioned into video segments based on camera shots, each of which is represented by a trend vector which encapsulates the moving trend of points in a segment. The video stream query is processed depending on the comparison of those trend vectors. We examine our method using a collection of video streams that are composed of sports, news, documentary, and educational videos. Experimental results show that our trend vector representation reduces a reconstruction error remarkably (average 37%) and the retrieval using a trend vector achieves the high precision (average 2.1 times) while maintaining the similar response time and recall rate as existing methods.

  • In order to present the geometrically nonlinear F.E. formulation of space frames, two beam/column elements including the effects of transverse shear deformation and bending stretching coupling are developed. In the case of the first element (Finite segment method), the tangent stiffness matrices are derived by directly integrating the equilibrium equations, whereas in the case of the second element (Finite element method) elastic and geometric stiffness matrices are calculated by using the hermitian polynomials including shear deformation effect as the shape function. Both elements possess the usual twelve degrees of freedom. Also, the bowing function including shear deformation effects is obtained in order to account for the effect of shortening of member chord length due to the bending and torsional behavior. Numerical results are presented for the selected test problems which demonstrate that both elements represent reliable and highly accurate tools.

  • Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) is widely used for tunnel structures such as shotcrete and segments. Corrosion of steel fibers and steel reinforcements may affect on the long-term durability of the concrete structures with steel fibers and reinforcement. Therefore, a study on the feasible method to evaluate corrosion possibility and permeability of the concrete structures is required. This experimental study examines the effect of steel fibers and internal reinforcement on the surface resistivity. Steel fiber mix ratio and corrosion of internal reinforcement were considered as variables. In the results, steel fibers significantly reduce the surface resistivity due to those conductive characteristic. In the case of 3% mix ratio, it was difficult to evaluate rate and permeability of corrosion due to the great reduction of resistivity by mixing of steel fibers.

  • Ground Based Augmentation System(GBAS) is a system that offers an aircraft within 23 NM radius from the airport precision positioning service and precision approach service using the concept of Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS). After GBAS ground equipment installing at the airport, functionalities and performances of GBAS should be verified through the GBAS ground and flight testing. This paper describes the methods and results for GBAS flight test using the flight inspection aircraft at Gimpo International Airport. From the test results, we confirmed that the VDB data was received without misleading within the VDB coverage of Gimpo International Airport, and VDB field strength, protection level, and course alignment accuracy met the evaluation's criteria.
