The purpose of this study is to analyze the contextual cognition of space in architecture focusing on Aldo Rossi and Michael Graves, the representative architects of spatial cognition in contextual architecture. This study on the contextual cognition of architectural space can be connected with linguistics and aesthetics's approaches. The conclusions of the study as per the above mentioned aims and intentions are as follows : The concept of spatial analysis in Aldo Rossi's contextual cognition in architecture is described the Analogical Space of Speculative Aesthetics by Diachronie Restoration That of Michael Graves' contextual cognition Is defined Semiotics Space of Empirical Aesthetics by Synchronie Repeatition.

The purpose of this study is to suggest a basis for exterior space improving in university campus in terms of upgrading the quality of university education environment by analysing user's cognition and physical feature about campus exterior space. For this, this study was survey six major university students in Busan city about perception of campus exterior space, and analyzes the user's cognition by using natural-language vocabulary analysis for qualitative approach. Next, this study analyzes the physical feature of campus exterior space by investigating user's intensive using spaces and preferred, non-preferred spaces in their universities, then propose the improved direction of campus exterior space by comparing the analyzed data of user's cognition and physical feature. A SPSS20 program is used for the data analysis and the sample sizes are 171 college students.

The purpose of this study is to present the cognition of speculative aesthetics in the architectural space. Architectural space as the subject of the aesthetical study has been ignored such a long period though it should be centered of the whole architectural theory. Even it has not been dealt with independently but just only as a part of aesthetic or artistic field. Also it is also true that academic approach to the architectural space as per the aesthetic recognition has not been done so satisfactorily. The transcendental subjectivity as the aesthetic cognitive viewpoint of the architectural space means speculative aesthetics and the understands the essential meaning of the function and composition The conclusions of this study are as follows : The formalistic cognitive concepts including organic functional space between the whole and the part and anti-cubic synchronous space are included in the architecture of the speculative cognition, and finally the contextual cognitive concepts including the restoring analogical space of the in-depth constituent factors and associated centripetal spaces.

This study was to evaluate residents' environmental cognition, satisfaction and needs of distinctive outdoor space in apartment housing estates. Distinctive outdoor space of 75 apartment estates throughout the country were investigated. And the residents of 16 apartment estates were asked how they cognize disticntive outdoor space qualities, and what activities they prefer in apartment's outdoor space. Thre important factors were extracted in residents' cognition of distinctive outdoor space qualities. First factor was naturalness of the greenery, second factor was outdoor activities especially related to fitness and exercise, and third factor was design of street furniture. Residents' satisfaction degree of distinctive outdoor space tended to increase as high as the occupied housing area. Places with water, tree shades, pedestrian way, greenery with flowers, playlots, fitness places and entrances of the estates were evaluated high in the order named. And places full with greenery, places related to fitness and exercisem, playlots were prefered by the residents.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the residents' cognition and behaviors about residents' community space in apartment housing. Since the last year when well-being trend was highly interesting, consumers have showed their concern about not only just interior of houses but also exterior environment of their houses. This movement has evoked consumers' interests in level and sort of residents' community space. Moreover, as the concern about the quality of human life has gone up, how much the quality of human life could get higher has been brought into relief as an absolutely important issue. According to this trend, this study researched residents' satisfaction, the reason of dissatisfaction, requirement, and preference about residents' community space to analyze residents' cognition and behaviors about residents' community space in apartment. Therefore, this study did following; First, it selected research samples which have the value to be researched and outstanding productivity. Second, sample survey was performed to residents with questionnaire and results of the survey were analyzed. The contents of questionnaire included the actual condition, residents' cognition, and behaviors of residents' community space.

근대사회의 형성은 과거의 공간을 변화시켰을 뿐만 아니라 새로운 내용과 형식의 공간도 등장시켰다. 근대 사회를 통해 등장한 새로운 공간들은 건축과 도시 속으로 흡수되면서 공간에 대한 과거의 전통적인 인식에 변화를 가져왔다. 이러한 맥락에서 볼 때, 근대 형성기의 건축과 공간은 근대건축의 원형으로서 20세기의 근대건축과 공간을 이해하는 중요한 단서가 된다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 문제의식 하에, 근대적 공간과 그 인식의 형성을 풍경식 정원을 통해 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구에서 풍경식 정원을 주목하는 이유는 풍경식 정원이 18세기말부터 사회의 주도적인 과제가 되었던 몇 개의 주제들 중 하나로서 유럽 전체에 영향을 미쳤기 때문이다. 따라서 풍경식 정원을 분석함으로써 유럽 전체에 나타나는 공통적이고 일반적인 근대적 공간인식을 파악할 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the architectural space of modern and contemporary architecture which has been changed by the aesthetic cognition on space. The intention of considering architectural space aesthetically is to convert the viewpoint of seeing space as simple physical structure into different viewpoint of regarding 'space' as 'cultural place' However this does not means to apply aesthetic theory to architectural space. The aesthetic cognition on space is one of the main subjects of the expression of art from ancient to today however the appearance of space concept as architectural aesthetics accelerated by G. Semper theory after the latter half of 19th century. On the standpoint of perpetuity in architecture the aesthetics of scientific rationalism in modernism based on the reasonable thinking regards the variety of inherent characteristic in architectural space as 'Transferential Space'. On the other hand, in regarding to architectural trend, the nature in architectural space has been considered as 'Existential Space' starting from the conscious construction of environments to help human existence in the existentialism. The Conclusion logic of follows as belows; first, the concept of space structure in architecture has been exchanged from Enclosed Space to Topological Space. Second, the concept of architectural space has been changed and developed to the Deterministic, Profound, Dissipative, and Recognizable Space according to the change of expression in architecture.

In early 20th century a tendency of composite art -the aesthetical historian's struggle to unify various genres including paintings with architecture -appered which was created on the basis of spacial thoughts. On aesthetic interpretation of arts the object of aesthetic cognition is formed not just by itself but by aesthetic consciousness systems and this means the object can be classified with basic type that has various figures within its aesthetic categories. Here this study is purposed to prescribe space as an object of aesthetic cognition and define its conceptional characteristics stylistic expressions then to play a role as basic study of aesthetics of architectural space forming aesthetic cognition and analysis of architecture.

Main elements in definition of space value were physical, formal, and reasonable characteristics in the past. Howener recently, definition of space value is changing by being advanced about study concerned with human's cognition and thinking way in definition and analysis of space. As you see, cognitive psychologists have emphasized the importance of human's cognitive structure and process and studied diverse aspects of human's thinking ; consciousness, perception, memory, image, language, decision-making, inference, and so on. Therefore main elements in definition of space value are five-dimensional, psychological, symbolic, mental, emotional characteristics above physical, formal, and reasonable characteristics. As mentioned above, the conversion of thinking focused on reason to thinking focused on human's spirit and emotion is achieved in contemporary architecture and 'human's experience' in space becomes a very important factor. For that reason, the purpose of this study is consideration of human's cognitive process in space by conversion of thinking and gives a definition about experience. And, I would like to define 'experience design' whose main attribute is experience in space and establish theoretical basis of experience design through theoretical researches about experience. This study on experience design that induces users to participate in space and stimulate human's spirit is a important point in definition of space value not only contemporary interior architecture but also prospective generation.

Apparently light does exist even if it does not have certain form that an object might have. The history of architecture can be told as the history of light. As various master architects as well as scholars mentioned, light has been recognized as one of the most important aspects in perceiving space. Although there are complex multi dimensions in body sense and perception, experiencing space through light is preliminary formed by the outline to the degree of brightness. Light gives space specific and unique character by limiting or enlarging the space by wrapping an object or by reflection of material surfaces or by the intensity of light itself. It is fundamentally important to recognize the essential relationship between light and perception of space through various medias such as material, form, movement and so on. Three types of space perception and cognition by light that have been categorized after studying the most significant writings on light become the core method to further analyze the selected case projects. In this research, we will study how interior space is expressed through different light conditions with above mentioned characteristics and how such expressions can be applicable to the design of interior space.
