Corrosion of reinforced concrete structures in marine environment is one of the most important mechanism of deterioration. For estimate of service-life for chloride attack, it is necessary to get exact surface chloride content. This paper reports the results of estimate for surface chloride content in domestic west and south coast.

We grouped the names attributed to the seas surrounding the Korean Peninsula in maps published in two major Korean ocean and fisheries science journals over the period from 1998 to 2017: the Journal of the Korean Society of Oceanography (The Sea) and the Korean Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science (KFAS). The names attributed to these seas in maps of journal paper broadly were classified into three groupings: (1) East Sea and Yellow Sea; (2) East Sea, Yellow Sea, and South Sea; or (3) East Sea, West Sea and South Sea. The name 'East Sea' was dominantly used for the waters between Korea and Japan. In contrast, the water between Korea and China has been mostly labelled as 'Yellow Sea' but sometimes labelled as 'West Sea'. The waters between the south coast of Korea and Kyushu, Japan were labelled as either 'Korea Strait' or 'South Sea'. This analysis on sea names in the maps of 'The Sea' and 'KFAS' reveals that domestic researchers frequently mix geographical and international names when referring to the waters surrounding the Korean Peninsula. These inconsistencies provide the motivation for the development of a basic unifying guideline for naming the seas surrounding the Korean Peninsula. With respect to this, we recommend the use of separate names for the marginal seas between continental landmasses and/or islands versus for the coastal waters surrounding Korea. For the marginal seas, the internationally recognized names are recommended to be used: East Sea; Yellow Sea; Korea Strait; and East China Sea. While for coastal seas, including Korea's territorial sea, the following geographical nomenclature is suggested to differentiate them from the marginal sea names: Coastal Sea off the East Coast of Korea (or the East Korea Coastal Zone), Coastal Sea off the South Coast of Korea (or the South Coastal Zone of Korea), and Coastal Sea off the West Coast of Korea (or the West Korea Coastal Zone). Further, for small or specific study areas, the local region names, district names, the sea names and the undersea feature names can be used on the maps.
This study was carried out to investigate the contents of heavy metals such as iron, copper, lead, cadmium, magnesium, platium in connection with water pollution in sea weed (dried laver) collected from the west, south, south- west, and east coasts of Korea. The results of the study are as follows; Iron was shown the highest value (1.280ppm) in the wild laver from the south coast. Copper was detected in larger qauntities (0.169 ppm) in green laver than in any other kinds of laver observed in this study. Lead was detected in larger quantities (0.195ppm) in the usual laver and green laver from the south-west coast as compared with the other coasts. Although cadmium and platium was also detected from every kind of laver, the concentrations were not over the allowance of the residual.
The common rough woodlouse Porcellio scaber Latreille, 1804 is newly reported from South Korea with following diagnostic characteristics: the presence of distinct tubercles on body; the strongly developed lateral lobes of head; the presence of notch on tracheal field of pleopod 1 exopod; and distinctly short exopod of uropod. This species is reported to be cosmopolitan, but there were no taxonomic records of it in South Korea. All voucher specimens were collected from humid shaded areas adjacent to the eastern coast of South Korea. Organismal ecology and scanning electron microscope photographs are provided. In addition, the results of CO1 analysis of individuals representing the different color and morphological variations are provided.

We installed the measurement equipment which measure the equivalent Salt Deposit Density(ESDD) of the domestic coast area in the selected 112 place and investigated the influence of the wind which blow at the point of 500m from coast installing a wind vane, wind gauge for realtime measurement. During september${\sim}$december, 2005, ESDD which passively measured at the point of 50m from coast is maximum C grade in the Homigot of Pohang, B grade in the Gochang and A grade in the remaining point. Also ESDD which is measured in the east coast, west coast respectively is the more the distance being far from the coast to inland, the more ESDD rapidly decreasing but each area of the south coast is difficult to identify the decreased tendency because of very low measurements.
The annual nariation of surface heat exchange at ten selected station in the Korean coastal seas was studied using data of monthly mean surface temperature and meteorological parameters averaged for many years. Through heat exchange between the sea and the atmosphere, the surfaces in the Korean coastal seas are warmed by accepting heat from the atmosphere during march to September in the west coast sea, during Aprill to August in the south coast sea which includes the Ulleung-do coast sea and during April to September in the east coast sea. The periods which are cooled by losing heat to the atmosphere correspond to residual months excepting the above warming periods. Maximum total heat exchange during the warming period at each station shows the distribution of 320-720cal/ $\textrm{cm}^2$ day in June to July and during the cooling period shows the distribution of -260∼-940 cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in November to January. The annual average total heat exchange shows warming of 100-240 Cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in the west coast sea, cooling of -90∼-150 Cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in the south coast sea and the Ulleung-do coast sea, and slight warming or cooling of -15∼65 Cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ day in the east coast sea. Maxima or minima of the surface temperature in the Korean coastal seas appear in the month that the warming or cooling period is ended. The evaporation rate is highest during October to next January with the distribution of 5∼12mm/day.

The zooplankton composition, abundance, community structure, and species diversity in the major commercial fishery species spawning grounds in the southern coast of Korea were investigated in this study. A total of 80 taxa were sampled, with the mean abundance range of 5,612-11,720 ind. m-3 and the mean biomass range of 41.6-1,086.8 mg m-3. The dominant species were Paracalanus copepodites, Paracalanus parvus s. l., Oithona copepodites, Paracalanus nauplii, Noctiluca scintillans, Oithona similis, and Ditrichocorycaeus affinis. The species diversity indices were highest in August, suggesting that diversity is influenced by neritic and oceanic warm-water species. A cluster analysis with non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) revealed three groups of zooplankton communities. The April and May samples clustered into Group A, having the highest mean total zooplankton abundance and lowest species diversity, consisting mainly of temperate species located in the middle region of the southern coast of Korea. Cluster Group B was from the early summer season (June) and contained the highest species diversity with some oceanic and neritic zooplankton species. Cluster Group C from the summer season (July and August) mainly comprised P. parvus s. l. and O. similis. The redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that abundance is positively correlated with salinity, and chlorophyll-a concentrations.

We investigated the community structure and performed detailed characterization of fish larvae assemblages collected from the southern coast of Korea in the spring and summer of 2021. The total abundance of fish larvae varied from 193.6 to 1,915.6 ind. 10 m-3. The species were distributed across 10 orders with 23 families, and 41 taxa. The dominant taxa were Gobiidae spp., Engraulis japonicus, Nibea albiflora, Sebastiscus spp., Callionymus valenciennei, Pennahia argentata, Sebastes thompsoni, Parablennius yatabei, and Platycephalus indicus. Engraulis japonicus individuals were collected from April to August and their presence contributed greatly to the total abundance of fish larvae. The total number and abundance of species peaked in early summer and the Shannon-Weaver index was in the range 0.11-1.49. Redundancy analyses revealed that the major environmental factors affecting the fish larvae assemblage differed according to the dominant taxa. Water temperature, zooplankton density, and Paracalanus parvus s. l. density were the key factors affecting the spatial and temporal distribution of fish larvae in the southern coast of Korea in spring and summer.

This study gives the characteristics of sedimentation-consolidation and surface strength for dredging and landfill areas in each coast. For the analysis of the sedimentation-consolidation characteristics, the column tests were performed and the results were compared with existing various literatures and design reports for dredged soil disposal. The surface strength of landfill soils of west and south coast were investigated by using the portable cone tester. As a results of analysis, the coefficient of sedimentation-consolidation on south coastal dredging soils is more sensitive with variation of initial water contents than on the west coastal dredging soils. And the surface strength of the dredging landfills is a higher in the west coast than in the south coast. Finally, the results of this study will be utilized as a basis data for analysis and design in the field of dredging and landfill.

This study surveyed the island located in Sinan-gun and Wando-gun four times, once per season from September 2020 to November 2021 in order to understand the distribution of waterbirds on the island of the southwest coast. As a result of the investigation, a total of waterbirds of 7 orders, 12 families of 50 species, and 3,680 individuals were identified. By taxon, the largest number of species were identified as 11 species of waders, and the number of ducks was the largest with 2,035 individuals. In Bigeum-do Island, where forests are distributed less, the proportion of farmland is large, and tidal flats are widely distributed, the largest number of species and individuals of herons and waders were identified. Ducks and gulls have also been identified in large numbers of individuals in Bigeum-do Island. Most of them are forests and farmland, and the largest number of species and individuals of ducks have been identified in Pyeongil-do Island, where the coast is deep. In addition, Nodae-do Island, Sobyeongpung-do, and Daebyeongpung-do Island with monotonous habitats have been identified with fewer species and individuals. As a result, We learned that various types of waterbirds lived in islands with various habitats, and that the preferred habitat was different depending on the characteristics of the taxon group. By season, the largest number of species was identified as 35 in autumn, and the largest number of individuals was identified as 1,681 in winter. Although most of the seasonally identified waterbirds were winter birds, the largest number of species were identified in autumn, and most of the confirmed waterbird migration were identified in the autumn, indicating that waterbirds used the west-south coast islands as an intermediate stopover while traveling.
