Prediction of the Dynamic Adsorption Behaviors of the Uranium and Cobalt Ions in a Fixed Bed by Surface Modified Activated Carbon (표면개질 활성탄을 이용한 고정층에서 우라늄 및 코발트 이온의 동적 흡착거동 모사)

  • In order to predict the dynamic behaviors of uranium and cobalt in a fixed bed at various influent pH values of liquid waste, the adsorption system is regarded as a multi-component adsorption between each ionic species in the solution. Langmuir isotherm parameters of each species were extracted by incorporating equilibrium data with the solution chemistry of the uranium and cobalt using IAST. Prediction results were in good agreement with the experimental data, except for a high concentration and pH. Although there was some limitations in predicting the cobalt adsorption, this method may be useful in analyzing a complex adsorption system where various kinds of ionic species exist in a solution.

The Effects of 3.5% NaCl Aqueous Solution Temperature on the Corrosion Fatigue Fracture of Dual phase steel (3.5% NaCl 수용액의 온도변화가 복합조직강의 부식피로파괴에 미치는 영향)

  • Corrsion fatigue test was performed under rotated bending in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution having a temperature from 278.deg.K in order to investigate the effects of aqueous solution remperature on the corrosion fatigue fracture of raw material steel(SS41) and dual phase steel that was produced from SS41 by a series of heat treatment. Corrosion fatigue life decreases remarkably with increase in solution temperature or with decrease in stress level. The corrosion fatigue life and the crack propagation rate at 303.deg.K show the similar behaviors with those at 318.deg.K, which is assumed to be caused by concentration polarization phenamena. The number and the lengths of microcracks increase with increase in solution temperature, so they lead to the decrease in corrosion fatigue life.

  • Aiming at selective adsorption and separation of Y(III) from the Y(III)-Sr(II) group in acid solution, a silica-based TODGA impregnated adsorbent [(TODGA+1-dodecanol)/SiO2-P-F600] has been prepared. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted under the effect of contact time, acid concentration, solution temperature, and adsorption capacity etc. Chromatography recovery of more than 90% Y(III) was successfully achieved under elution with 0.01 M DTPA solution in nitric acid adsorption system, and 0.1 M HCl solution in hydrochloride adsorption system, respectively.

  • In this study, corrosion behaviors of Ti-xNb alloys for biomaterials. The Ti-xNb binary alloys contained from 10 wt. % to 50 wt. % contents were manufactured by vacuum arc-melting furnace. Microstructures of the alloys were examined by optical microscope (OM) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). In order to identify the phase constitutents of the Ti-xNb alloys, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) with a Cu K radiation was used. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiostat (Model2273,EG & GCo, USA) in NaCl solution at $(36.6{\pm}1.0)^{\circ}C$.

  • Noise & vibration-free screw pile method is being developed for solution of noise and vibration problem in existing pile method. In this paper, prior to pilot test construction, conditions which a PHC pile and a screw PHC pile were constructed into ground were modeled by finite element code and through the parametric study in cohesive soils, the behaviors of two kinds of pile according to soil characteristics were compared.

  • The elution behaviors of a series of metal complexes, such as $Co(gly)_{3}$, $[Ni(en)_{3}]^{2+}$, $[Ni(phen)_3]^{2+}$, $[Fe(phen)_3]^{2+}$, $[Co(phen)_3]^3+$, $[Co(tn)_3]^3+$, $[Co(en)_3]^3+$ and $[Co(NH_3)_6]^3+$ (where gly; glycine, phen; phenanthroline, tn; trimethylenediamine, en; ethylenediamine), were studied in aqueous solution by measuring the retention volumes (v values) on SP-Sephadex C-25, cation exchange resin. It was found that the elution behaviors of metal complexes were apparently affected by salt concentrations, kinds of cations in eluent and kinds of anions in eluent, and according to the degrees of their effects coulombic forces, ion exchange capacities, the 'solvent effect' of resin backbone, hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity were applied to explain the elution mechanism.

  • In order to establish a theoretical basis for the analyses of transient behaviors in stratified thermal storage tanks, analytical approaches to an improved one-dimensional model are made. In the present model the storage tank is treated as a finite region with an adiabatic tank exit, whereas it has been considered as a simple semi-infinite region previously. Application of the Laplace transformation and the Inversion theorem to the governing equations makes it possible to obtain an exact infinite-series solution, which is convergent only at sufficiently large time. Accordingly a complementary solution which is available for short times, i.e., the time range of this study is sought by an approximate method. The approximate solution which is rigorously validated through the examination of neglected terms in the solution procedure agrees quite well with the exact one. Moreover, it is simpler to use and more convenient to interpret the physical meaning of the solution. Comparison of the present solution with the previous ones shows relatively large difference near the tank bottom, which results from the more realistic boundary condition adopted in the present model. Some representative results by the approximate solution including effects of the Peclet number on temperature distrbutions are illustrated to show the utility of this study. In consequence, it is expected that the present results based on the improved model replace the foregoing ones as a new theoretical reference for studies of thermal stratification fields.

Characteristics and Dyeing Properties of Arrowroot Leaves Colors (칡잎 색소의 특성과 염색성에 관한 연구)

  • Optical behaviors and dyeing properties of color solution extracted from arrowroot leaves were investigated. The wavelength of maximum absorption of the color solution appeared at 268 and 320 nm, respectively. The amount of colors extracted was increased with extracting temperature and time. Spectra of color solution are shifted to longer wavelength at higher pH values, and shifted to shorter wavelength by irradiation for 2 hrs. Remaining ratio of colors by irradiation decreased with increasing alkalinity of color solution. Degree of exhaustion on the silk fabrics was related to the concentration and pH of dyebath. Surface color of dyed fabrics, lightfastness and wash-fastness were variously according to mordant used. Hot water resistance and drycleaning fastness of dyed silk fabrics by treatment of mordants were all within commercially acceptable limits.

  • Radiation-induced oscillatory instability in diffusion flames is numerically investigated with nonlinear dynamics considered. As the simplest flame model, a diffusion flame established in the stagnant mixing layer is employed with optically thin gas-phase radiation and unity Lewis numbers for all species. Attention is focused on the radiation-induced extinction regime, which occurs at large $Damk\ddot{o}hler$ number. Once the steady flame structure is obtained for a prescribed value of the initial $Damk\ddot{o}hler$ number, transient solution of the flame is calculated after a finite amount of the $Damk\ddot{o}hler$-number perturbation is imposed on the steady flame. Transient evolution of the flame exhibits three types of flame-evolution behaviors, namely decaying oscillatory solution, diverging solution to extinction and stable limit-cycle solution. A dynamic extinction boundary is identified for laminar flamelet library.
