A molten metal droplets are deposited onto solid substrate for solid freeform fabrication, Collision dynamic and substrate heat transfer associated with solidification determine the final shape of molten metal droplets. In this study, the experimental model, based on the variational condition with substrate temperature and falling height, was produced reliable optimal data of droplet pattern.
In this study, semi-solid thin plate of A 356 aluminum alloy was fabricated by using slope plate apparatus and vacuum pressurization. Slope plate was used to produce semi-solid material with spheroidal microstructures. After molten metal was poured into the slope plate connected to the pouring hole of die, semi-solid material flowed into the die cavity by vacuum degree. The primary crystals of the cast metal became spheroidal. In order to increase the working pressure, gas pressurization of U shape was designed for fabrication of thin plate. For 3 bar of gas pressure and 60 mmHg of vacuum degree, thin plate was fabricated without defects on surface.
The reheating stage of electromagnetically stirred Al billet is a critical factor in the thixoforming process. When reheated to the solid-liquid state, the microstructure evolves to a more globular and more homogeneous structure by a coarsening mechanism, the kinetics depending on the initial microstructure. Microstructural evolution has been characterized by conventional parameters (mean size of particle and shape factor) as a function of holding time in the solid-liquid state. The aim of this study is to report experimental results concerning microstructural evolution in the solid-liquid state of electromagnetically stirred Al billet. The material was elaborated in the form of continuously cast bars solidified with electromagnetic stirring to degenerate the dendritic structure. The choice of the reheating conditions is determined by a dendritic ripening and coalescence mechanism, involving variations of both the shape and size of the particles. The reheating time has to be long enough to allow a minimum degree of spheroidizing, but has to be limited as much as possible in order to avoid excessive ripening. The optimum microstructure was obtained at the reheating temperature of near $584^{\circ}C$ and the holding time of 5 min. The only means of combining high productivity with good casting quality was to use feedstock billets whose microstructure showed rapid transformation characteristics.
Two-dimensional solidification analysis during rheology forming process of semi-solid aluminum alloy has been studied. Two-phase fluid flow model to investigate the velocity field and temperature distribution is proposed. The proposed mathematical model is applied to the die shape of the two types. To calculate the velocity and temperature fields during rheology forming process, the earth governing equation correspondent to the liquid and solid region are adapted. Therefore, each numerical models considering the solid and liquid region existing within the semi-solid material have been developed to predict the deflect of rheology forming gnarls. The Arbitrary Boundary Maker And Cell (ABMAC) method is employed to solve the two-phase flow model of the Navier-Stokes equation. Theoretical model on the basis of the two-phase flow model is the mixture rule of solid and liquid phases. This approach is based on the liquid and solid viscosity. The liquid viscosity is pure liquid state value, however solid viscosity is considered as a function of the shear rate, solid fraction and power law curves.
Variation of shape and size of solid particles and solute redistribution in Mg-9wt.%Al, AI-4.5wt.% Cu, and AI-7wt.%Si alloys were investigated when they were heated to semi-solid temperatures and held without stirring. In the case of Mg-9wt.% Al and Al-4.5wt.%Cu alloys, the polygonal shaped solid particles were agglomerated with non-uniform distribution, and there were no disappearance of the solid/solid boundary until the end of melting. But in the case of an Al-7wt.%Si alloys, two or three spherical shaped particles were coalesced or separated individually, and the coalesced particles had no solid/solid interface on the contrary to the prevous case. The maximum size of solid particles during isothermal heating at high temperature was smaller than that at lower temperature, but the time required to reach the maximum size at high temperature was shorter than that at lower temperature. The concentrations of main solute atom whose distribution coefficient is lower than 1, decreased in the primary solid particles as the liquid fraction increased, and the gradient of solute concentration was steeper in Mg-9wt.%Al alloy and Al-4.5wt.%Cu alloy than that of Al-7wt.%Si alloy.

In the direct rolling processes for the mushy state alloy, a mushy state material which simultaneously contains liquid-solid phase is obtained from the exit port of stirring apparatus with a given solid fraction. This solid fraction is dependent on the temperature of within the solid-liquid range which shows to be controlled accurately by the experimental conditions for a given stirring apparatus. Rolling conditions for fabrication the fine surface strip were obtained from direct rolling experiment with mushy state alloys of Sn-75%Pb and aluminum alloy. Influence of solid fraction, rolling speed and initial roller gap on the state of strip surface and solidified structure was observed. We proposed theoretical model for prediction of rolling force, and we compared calculation result and experimental value measured with load cell.

A solid state Hg(Au)/HgO reference electrode was prepared utilizing gold amalgam solid particles. Solid fine powder of the gold amalgam was prepared by chemical reduction of Au(III) with NaBH4 followed by reduction of Hg(II) in the presence of gold fine particles. The solid content in the suspension of the gold amalgam particles and fine mercury oxide particles in DMF containing PVC was precipitated by the addition of a large amount of water to give solid Hg(Au)/HgO/PVC mixture. After drying, the mixture was pressure-molded to a physically stable Hg(Au)/HgO composite reference electrode material. The electrochemical characteristics of the electrode as a reference electrode were very similar to an ordinary Hg/HgO reference electrode. The electrode material can be molded and fabricated in any desired shape and size. The surface can be renewed by a simple polishing process whenever contaminated or deactivated. The applicability of the electrode in the electrochemical detection of carbohydrates after anion exchange separation was evaluated.
The tungsten disulfide (WS$_2$) solid lubricant was synthesized by two different reaction processes, and the chemical and physical characteristics of synthesized WS$_2$ powder were analyzed in terms of the average particle size, morphology, crystalline phase. The solid WO$_3$ powder with the average size of 0.2 $\mu$m was reacted with CS$_2$ gas flowed with N$_2$ or 96% N$_2$ + 4% H$_2$ forming gas for 36 h and 24 h at 900$\circ$C respectively. In the case of vapour phase transport method, the 3.5 wt% iodine was added as a vapour transport reagent into the composition of tungsten and sulfur powders maintaining a constant molar ratio of W : S = 1 : 2.2. The mixture was then heat treated at 850$\circ$C for 2 weeks in vacuum The reaction product obtained showed the average size of 12 $\mu$m and the hexagonal plate shape of typical solid lubricant with 2H-WS$_2$ crystalline phase.
