During the carbonation process in concrete, the rate of carbonation depends on porosity and moisture content of the concrete. For underground reinforced concrete structures, the interior concrete surface may be exposed to carbonation and the exterior concrete surface exposed to moisture due to wet soil or underground water. In this study, the permeability coefficients in mortar partially carbonated is derived as a function of carbonation depth and porosity of mortar by applying the so-called micro pore structure formation model (MPSFM) which was developed for the modeling of early-aged concrete. The permeability coefficient obtained from the micro-level modeling of carbonated mortar is verified with the results of accelerated carbonation test and water penetration test in cement mortar.
This study are carried out to an lab model tests to develop a construction method that solidifies high-water content cohesive soil by using filter type drain and vacuum pressure, and that stabilizes the ground by accelerating horizontal drain at incline or in tunnel. The calibration chamber was designed within length of 1.5m and height of 50cm, and a drainage hole for preconsolidation, a switchgear and a piezometer were installed at the bottom part of the chamber. Also, a settlement gage was installed at the top part so that it can measure the settlement by time. The calibration ground basis was made in a form of thin layer from kaolinite and bentonite in 9:1 ratio stirred at 130% water content condition. A filter type drain was installed at chamber center and a vacuum pressure of 0.8MPa was applied through a hose linked to the cap at the top part, then, the settlement was measured in every 1 hour interval. After experiment, the moisture contents were measured by position, then, verified the increase of solidity of the ground through a triaxial compression test on undisturbed profile. After 11 days from the effective date, it was observed that the settlement decreased by maximum 35mm and the water content ratio was reduced by 38% at most while the solidity of the ground increased by 5~8 times greater than before preconsolidation.
This paper shows theresults of centrifuge model experiments to investigate the behavior of a replacement method in dredged and reclaimed ground. For this experimental work, centrifuge model tests were carried out to investigate the behavior of a replacement method in soft clay ground. Basic soil property tests were performed to find the mechanical properties of clay soil sampled from the southern coast of Korea, which was used for the ground material in the centrifuge model tests. The reconstituted clay ground of the model was prepared by applying reconsolidntion pressure in a 1 g condition with a specially built model container. Centrifuge model tests were carried out under the artificially accelerated gravitational level of 50 g. Replacement material of lead with a certain degree of angularity was used and placed until the settlement of the replacement material embankment reached a state of equilibrium. Vertical displacement of the replacement material was monitored during tests. The depth and shape of the replacement, especially the slope of the penetrated material and the water content of the clay ground were measured after finishing tests. Model tests for investigating the stability of an embankment after backfilling were also performed to simulate the behavior of a dike treated with replacement and backfilled with sandy material. As a result of the centrifuge model test, the behavior of the replacement, the mechanism of the replacement material being penetrated into clay ground, and the depth of the replacement were evaluated.
The unsaturated layers by rainfall infiltration are not properly reflected in construction codes to do slope design. The objective of this paper is to analyze the slope behavior according to the saturation layer increase resulted from the rainfall infiltration, to do that the laboratory slope model apparatus was adopted. From the model apparatus, the variation of water content and strength parameters of the model slope were analyzed. The safety factors of model slope was decreased, if saturation layer was increased from 3.0m to 4.5m, which means ground water level 3m selected from construction codes makes higher safety level. Also, if the ground water level is located in soil surface, the lower safety level will show up. Therefore, to make the proper slope design, the experiments and analysis of variation of saturation layer is needed.
This paper presents the results of a scale model test to the effect of heat exchanger drainage method in retaining wall of weathered granite soil. Purpose to rise in the temperature of the heat wires inside the weathered granite soil is preventing the collapse of the retaining wall and drainage smoothly moved to the drainage layer. Especially using a spray gun to simulate the rainfall since the rainfall drainage work is important for the rainfall effect on soil, find the difference about displacement of the retaining wall, change of volume water content, drainage, earth pressure and change in the strain of the geosynthetic was effected to heat exchanger within the soil. The result from applying the heat exchanger method decreased the earth pressure and displacement of the wall and increased drainage of water.

The purpose of this study was to investigate maximum and minimum grain size which eroded by wind according to soil and wind conditions, such as top soil water content, roughness, land slope, wind velocity and proportion of grain size under 0.84mm. For performing this study, portable wind erosion tunnel was designed and utilized during field test, which facilitated measuring actual wind erosions under artificially controlled wind conditions. In the result, maximum, minimum grain size had strong negative correlation with roughness while weak positive correlation with wind velocity. Also, Slope which means the effect of gravity also influence grain size erodible by winds. Based on these results, regression equations were suggested for predicting maximum and minimum grain sizes by using multiple linear regression analysis from SPSS 20.0. The equation for maximum grain size erodible by winds showed a good agreement with the observed data with $R^2$=0.896. Other equation for minimum grain size had $R^2$=0.777.

In this study, the evaluation method of diffusion characteristics of Suspended Soli&SS) and the generation limit(source and thick) are investigated, which is significantly affecting on marine examined by construction works such as dredging and reclamation. Dispersion characteristics of SS is examined by hydraulic tests and numerical works in consideration with the Pusan Port. Hydraulic model test was performed in 2-D wave flume to find the limit wave conditon of re-suspension of solid as well as the time dependent characteristics of settlement The results obtainded in the study are as follows; 1) The quantituative evaluation af SS is the basic parameter of marine environmental impact assessment in related with the port development The SS increases as the water content of sea bed solid increases and the density decreases. 2) The sea bed solid in Sinsundai area, Pusan Port has the water content range of 83~157% 3) The ratio of suspension velocity against settlement velocity is about 0.25 and SS concentration converges as the wave heigh. 4) The SS increases 2 time when time step increases 3 time(10 sec to 30 sec) in numerical simulation It means that the effect of the time step should be checked in detail to stable. The diffusion The diffusion coefficient are Affiected senstively in the dispersion process while sea ved friction coefficinet have not strong relation in the simulated area
The temperature of subsea pipeline, approximately as high as $100^{\circ}C$, is significantly higher than the temperature of surrounding sea water and sediment. In this reason, heat can be lost from the subsea pipeline to cause serious operation problem. Therefore it is important that the subsea pipeline must be designed to ensure that heat loss is small enough. Heat loss of unburied pipeline is higher than buried pipeline. For that purpose, trenching and backfilling system is a commonly used method for maintaining flow assurance in subsea pipeline installation. For this commonly used method, knowing thermal conductivity of backfill is essential to protect a heat loss of pipeline. This paper presents thermal conductivity of backfill soil using laboratory model test and numerical analysis for various backfill. In conclusion, it can be seen that higher the sand content of the man-made backfill sample, the higher the thermal conductivity. On the other hand, as the water content increases, the thermal conductivity becomes smaller.

A simulation model was used to examine the effects of climate variation on the tree-ring structure of Larix leptolepis trees growing at a plantation plot in Worak National Park in central Korea. The model uses mathematical equations to simulate processes affecting cell(tracheid) size variations for individual rings using daily precipitation and temperature measurements. Limiting conditions are estimated from temperature, day length and a calculated water balance. The results indicate that the seasonal growth is mostly limited by the soil moisture content and precipitation income during April and May. The April-May temperature also inversely influences the growth by increasing water losses from soil. The global climate-change scenario which includes regional warming(increasing temperature in spring-summer periods) appears to decrease the duration of optimal growths. Consequently, the model estimated that Larix leptolepis would lose the total production of xylem by 25%.

The Soil-Water Characteristics Curve (SWCC) is affected by the initial density of soil under unsaturated condition. Also, the characteristic of hydraulic conductivity is changed by the initial density of soil. To study the effect of initial density of unsaturated soil, SWCC and the Hydraulic Conductivity Function (HCF) of Jumoonjin sand with various relative densities, 40%, 60% and 75% were measured in both drying and wetting processes. As the results of SWCC estimated by van Genuchten (1980) model, the parameter related to Air Entry Value(AEV), ${\alpha}$ in the wetting process is larger than that in drying process, but the parameters related to the SWCC slope, n and the residual water content, m are larger than those in wetting process. The AEV is increased or Water Entry Value (WEV) is decreased with increasing the relative density of sand. The AEV is larger than the WEV at the same relative density of sand. As the results of HCF estimated by van Genuchten (1980) model which is one of the parameter estimation methods, the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity maintained at a saturated one in the low level of matric suctions and then suddenly decreased just before the AEV or the WEV. The saturated hydraulic conductivity in drying process is larger than that in wetting process. The saturated hydraulic conductivity is decreased with increasing the relative density of sand in both drying and wetting processes. Also, the hysteresis in unsaturated HCFs between drying and wetting process was occurred like the hysteresis in SWCCs. According to the test results, the AEV on SWCC is decreased and the saturated hydraulic conductivity is increased with increasing the initial density. It means that SWCC and HCF are affected by the initial density in the unsaturated soil.
