한국 해안에 퇴적된 연약지반의 점토광물의 종류와 분포 (Clay Minerals and Their Distribution in the Soft Ground Deposited along the Coastline)

  • 한국연안에 퇴적된 연약지반에 존재하는 점토광물을 식별하기 위해 여러 위치에서 14개의 시료를 채취하고 X-ray 회절분석을 수행하였다. 연약지반에는 여러 가지 점토광물이 혼합된 상태로 존재하고 halloysite는 존재하지 않는다는 것을 이 분석으로부터 알게 되었다. 지역적인 분포특징을 보면, 서해안과 남해안에서는 kaolinite와 illite가 발견되었으며, montmorillonite는 서해안에서만 존재하였다. 이러한 특징은 그 지역의 지질과 관련시켜 설명될 수 있다. 흙의 물리적 시험으로부터 얻은 활성도는 X-ray 회절분석으로부터 결정된 점토광물의 활성도와 일치성을 보이지 않는다.

Stochastic nature of magnetic processes studied by full-field soft X-ray microscopy

  • In nanomagnetism, one of the crucial scientific questions is whether magnetic behaviors are deterministic or stochastic on a nanoscale. Apart from the exciting physical issue, this question is also of paramount highest relevance for using magnetic materials in a wealth of technological applications such as magnetic storage and sensor devices. In the past, the research on the stochasticity of a magnetic process has been mainly done by macroscopic measurements, which only offer ensemble-averaged information. To give more accurate answer for the question and to fully understand related underlying physics, the direct observation of statistical behaviors in magnetic structures and magnetic phenomena utilizing advanced characterization techniques is highly required. One of the ideal tools for such study is a full-field soft X-ray microscope since it enables imaging of magnetic structures on the large field of view within a few seconds. Here we review the stochastic behaviors of various magnetic processes including magnetization reversal process in thin films, magnetic domain wall motions in nanowires, and magnetic vortex formations in nanodisks studied by full-field soft X-ray microscopy. The origin triggering the stochastic nature witnessed in each magnetic process and the way to control the intrinsic nature are also discussed.

연 X-선 현미경을 이용한 금 나노입자 세포영상 (Cellular Imaging of Gold Nanoparticles Using a Compact Soft X-Ray Microscope)

  • 연 x-선 현미경은 '물의 창' 영역 ($2.3{\sim}4.4nm$)의 파장을 이용하여, 수십 nm의 분해능으로 세포를 파괴하지 않고 살아있는 상태에서 세포의 내부구조를 관찰할 수 있어 가시광선현미경과 전자현미경을 단점을 보완하는 특징을 갖는 세포 생물학 연구에 적합한 현미경이다. 그러나 기존 연 x-선 현미경은 광원으로 방사선 가속기를 이용하기 때문에 사용이 제한적이었다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 2.88nm의 연 x-선을 광원으로 사용하는 소형 연 x-선 현미경을 이용하여, 내포작용에 의해 금 나노입자를 포획한 HT1080과 MDA-MB 231 세포의 영상을 약 60nm 분해능으로 획득하였다. 금 나노입자의 세포에 대한 독성을 제거하기 위하여 폴리에틸렌 글리콜을 캡핑하였고, 2.88nm 파장의 연 x-선에 대하여 충분한 조영효과로 인하여 세포영상에서 뚜렷한 대조도를 나타내었다. 내포작용에 의해 액포에 포함되어 있는 다양한 크기의 금 나노입자 군집을 확인하였으며, 세포내부의 액포의 분포상태도 관찰할 수 있었다. 따라서 고분해능을 가진 소형 연 x-선 현미경을 이용하여 금 나노입자를 세포내의 미세기관이나 특정 단백질에 표지하면 연 x-선에 대한 조영효과의 증가에 의하여 더욱 유용한 정보를 획득할 수 있을 것으로 생각한다.

시화지구 연약점토의 광물학적 특성과 공학적 특성의 상관관계 (The Correlations between Mineralogy and Engineering Characteristics of Soft Clay in Sihwa Area)

  • 국내 연약지반 활용을 위한 효율적이고 경제적인 안정처리 공법의 선정과 설계 및 시공을 위해서는 대상지반의 특성을 파악하는 것이 대단히 중요하다. 본 연구는 시화지구 연약점토의 물리적, 역학적 특성과 광물학적 특성을 파악하여 연약점토의 물리적, 역학적 특성과 광물학적 특성과의 상관관계를 알아보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서 는 연약점토의 광물학적 특성을 파악하기 위하여 X선 형광분석, X선 회절분석, 주사전자현미경분석과 에너지분산미분석 실험을 실시하였으며 시화지구 연약지반의 시추조사결과, 실내시험 및 현장시험결과와의 상관관계를 알아보았다. 또한 시화지구 연약점토의 특성을 양산과 군산 지역 연약점토의 특성과 비교하였다.

LONG-TERM SOFT X-RAY VARIABILITY OF ACTIVE GALAXY MRK 841

  • We present an analysis of the soft X-ray emission of MRK 841 to investigate its long-term variation. The light variation of MRK 841 for three different energy bands of soft, medium, and hard values were studied. The maximum variability with a factor of 5 for about two years was confirmed at all three different bands. The light curves exhibit a gradual variation of brightness. In addition to a gradual variation, the short- term or micro variation was also confirmed with a factor of about two for all three different bands. The light variation of each band did not exhibit a correlation between them, but the flare event is strongest in the soft band. The hardness ratio for hard and soft bands shows irregular variation but there was no correlation between them. It was confirmed that there is a gradual decrease of the photon index. Results of our analysis are discussed within the framework of the accretion disk phenomenon.

연X선 및 요드반응에 의한 수삼의 품질평가 (Quality Evaluation of Fresh ginseng by Soft X-ray and iodine Test.)

  • Soft X-ray is useful to identify the quality of fresh ginseng causing the inside cavity or white pan of red ginseng. The portion of low mass density identified by the difference in absorption of soft X-ray showed lower dry matter density and less or no response to iodine test indicating less accumulation or excess consumption of starch. The inside white part of red ginseng absorbed less X-ray than the normal part did. Probability for identification of the inside cavity or white at fresh ginseng was rather high (80-90%) in screen observation than f'3m reading and seemed to be increased further by using the developed screen and with training. The inside white of red ginseng appeared to be due to starch deficiency. Dry matter density appeared to be better than fresh weight density for the quality criterion.

  • In order to solve this sort of electrostatic failure in Display and Semiconductor process, Soft X-ray ionizer is mainly used. Soft X-ray Ionizer does not only generate electrical noise and minute particle but also is efficient to remove electrostatic as it has a wide range of ionization. There exist variable factors such as type of tungsten thickness deposited on target, Anode voltage etc., and it takes a lot of time and financial resource to find optimal performance by manufacturing with actual X-ray tube source. Here, MCNPX (Monte Carlo N-Particle Extended) is used for simulation to solve this kind of problem, and optimum efficiency of X-ray generation is anticipated. In this study, X-ray generation efficiency was compared according to target material thickness using MCNPX and actual X-ray tube source under the conditions that tube voltage is 5 keV, 10 keV, 15 keV and the target Material is Tungsten(W). At the result, In Tube voltage 5 keV and distance 100 mm, optimal target thickness is $0.05{\mu}m$ and fastest decay time appears + decay time 0.28 sec. - deacy time 0.30 sec. In Tube voltage 10keV and distance 100 mm, optimal target Thickness is $0.16{\mu}m$ and fastest decay time appears + decay time 0.13 sec. - deacy time 0.12 sec. In the tube voltage 15 keV and distance 100 mm, optimal target Thickness is $0.28{\mu}m$ and fastest decay time appears + decay time 0.04 sec. - deacy time 0.05 sec.

  • 1-GW Iodine photodissociation Laser (λ=1.315${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$)is focused to generate the continuum x-ray radiation at titanium(z=22)target. A piced of aluminum(360 )-mylar(8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) film is used to isolate the soft X-ray radiation emitted. Convex-xurved mica crystal spectrometer is used to obtain the soft x-ray spectra from the laser titanium target plasma and the slope of continum X-ray spectra are found to show two different different electron effective temperaturres, 0.11keV and 7.1KeV. We compare the two temperature result with the foil absorption method.

  • The characteristics of soft clays is very important for the land development plan. This study is to investigate correlations between the engineering properties and the characteristics of clay minerals of the disturbed clay samples obtained from Sihwa area. This study included X-Ray Diffraction Analysis, X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer Analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy Analysis and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometer Analysis. The correlations between the clay mineral properties and the laboratory and field testing results were investigated.

Circularly polarized soft X-ray generation by Co/Pt thin film polarizer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

  • We have experimentally demonstrated circular polarization generation from linear polarized soft X-ray at synchrotron by adopting a thin magnetic film polarizer. Polarizer is composed of Co/Pt multilayer with a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, which allows us to easily accommodate without needing any tilting angle into the measurement setup since the circular polarization is generated for the X-ray with normal incidence and transmission. Generated circular polarization is examined by observing magnetic domain features based on the X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, where~11% of circular component is estimated compared to the case of full circular polarization.
