Background: The concept of social capital has its focus on cooperative relations in the workplace. This study investigates the association between social capital and sickness absence among workers in 41 work groups in the Danish dairy industry and examines the possible effects of an intervention on social capital in the workplace on sickness absence. Methods: A sample of 791 dairy workers working in 41 work groups that participated in an intervention study on social capital filled in a questionnaire on four subtypes of social capital, and social capital scores from individual participants were aggregated to the level of work groups. Sickness absence was measured at the level of work groups in company registers as the two-year average percentage of working time lost to sickness absence. Group-level associations between social capital and sickness absence were analyzed using multilevel linear regression analysis. Analyses were adjusted for age, gender, group size, and random effects at the workplace level. Results: We found statistically significant associations between social capital within work groups, social capital in relation to the immediate manager, and social capital toward the workplace as a whole on the one side and sickness absence on the other side. We found no support for any effects of the intervention on sickness absence. Conclusion: The work group level of social capital is associated with the work group level of sickness absence. However, the intervention to enhance group-level social capital had no effect on reducing sickness absence in the intervention group.
This study investigated the relation between social worker's beliefs on the nature of scientific knowledge which has been classified objectivism and constructivism and social work practice. As an epistemological position, constructivism is based on a view of knowledge that differs from that of objectivism, which holds that knowledge exists "out there" as objective truth. The focus of this paper is a examination on epistemological beliefs of social worker and social work practice. This paper proves that social work's epistemological beliefs have an effect on the practice modes. This research indicates that social works have a higher constructivist veiws than objectivist veiws on the nature of scientific knowledge. And social worker who have a high level of objectivism show a positive determinative mode. It has suggested that the constructive theory offers useful epistemology to the social worker who should deal with the clients in uncertain situations. In conclusion, a social worker with a high level of constructivism use an approach that creats a more equitable relationship between social worker and client. This perspective will allows cliens to participate in the formulation of theories in practice.
The aim of this study is to identify whether college students' self-discrepancy has an effect on their well-being and to verify the moderating effect of social support on the relation between self-discrepancy and well-being. For this study, the preliminary research was conducted in the way that questionnaire tests on self-discrepancy, well-being, and social support were administered to 587 college students in Busan and Gyeongnam province. The test results were analyzed by means of SPSS 21.0 program. First, average and standard deviation were analyzed to examine the general characteristics of self-discrepancy, well-being and social support. Second, correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships between variables. Third, hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used to examine the moderating effect of social support on the relation between self-discrepancy and well-being. The conclusions drawn from the analysis are as follows. First, self-discrepancy had a significant negative correlation with well-being and social support had a significant positive correlation with well-being. Second, contrary to the research hypothesis, social support had no moderating effect on the relationship between self-discrepancy and well-being. Based on these findings, the implications and the limitations of the research findings were discussed, and recommendations for future research were provided.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary intake, obesity index and psychosocial factors influencing obesity among 200 high school girls in Seoul. The Social Cognitive Theory provided the Conceptual basis for this study. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to examine factors related to obesity, including self-efficacy for controlling overeating, social support for eating behavior, perception of body image and weight control, nutrition knowledge, and attitudes toward obesity. The data were analyzed using t-test and multiple logistic regression. The results of this study are as follows : 1) The mean age of the girls was 16.4 years, and the rate of overweight and obesity(measured by obesity index) was 27.0$\%$. 2) The mean energy intake of subjects was 1832.3$\pm$384.0kcal. The energy derived from carbohydrates, proteins and fats was 62.7$\%$, 13.8$\%$, and 23.5$\%$, respectively. There was no significant difference between the obese and the comparison group in energy intake. 3) The result of multivariate analysis indicated that obesity had a significant relation to the perception of ideal body image, social support for eating behavior, and self-efficacy for controlling overeating(p〈0.01). As subjects preferred thinner body images(OR=0.39) and received less social support(OR=0.93), the odds of being classified as obese increased. The odds of being obese were also associated with self-efficacy, however, the relation was not strong(OR=1.04). 4) Specific social support was related to obesity among adolescent girls. As subjects received more support from family member, the odds of being obese decreased. The emotional support as well as family member's positive nutrition behavior plays a significant role. In addition, instrumental support from friends was associated with obesity. With repect to self-efficacy, the odds of being obese were increased as subjects felt less confident in controlling overeating when tempting food was placed in front of them or after an argument. In contrast, the obese group felt more confident in controlling overeating for the rest of the specific situations examined. These findings suggest that educational interventions for weight control should incorporate strategies to help participants realize their degree of obesity, to reduce the discrepancy between current and ideal body image, to elicit and maintain social support from friends and family, and to increase the self-efficacy for changing eating behaviors. The purpose of this study is to examine Mediating effects of aging anxiety on the relationship between social activities and successful aging and Moderating effects of social support in relation to aging anxiety and successful aging. A total of 513 respondents participated in the questionnaire, 450 of which were used for the analysis. The analysis used mediating effect and regulatory effect test using regression analysis. The results showed that social activities lowered aging anxiety and helped to improve successful aging. Aging anxiety showed a mediating effect on the relationship between social activity and successful aging and confirmed the moderating effect of social support on the relationship between aging anxiety and successful aging. On the basis of this, the social activity providers diversify the social activity programs, reorganize the business system so that aging anxiety can be mitigated, and establish a mutual support system among the participants, so that successful aging through social activities will be more effective It is necessary to be managed so that.
Recently, the youth employment crisis which is characterized by high unemployment and low employment rate has been considerably serious, while jobless growth has been observed. However, job shortage and unstable labor status of the old are also main issues. To solve this problem, the job creation and deferred retirement for the old has been proceeded. Consequently, it has caused to the intergenerational war on job due to equity of job creation for the youth. However, it is not desirable that the problem would be diagnosed and the policy would be set up although little attention has so far been paid to test empirically this kind of substitution relation. Thus, this research has been analyzed whether the employment relation between the youth and the old is substitution or not. The analysis method is panel data analysis in 15 OECD countries including Korea(1990~2000). Major findings are as follows. First, only half of the youth and the old works. It provides the evidence that the employment crisis is not a problem of special generation but all of them. Second, employment relation between generations followed by panel analysis is not substitution relation. This findings can be interpreted as evidence that it is unlikely to solve the youth employment matter even though the government encourages the early retirement.
This study is performed to find out what type instructions are produced to players by coaches and what effects are resulted in cooperative spirit of the concerned group. Furthermore the study has its aims at advancing instructors' skills by using finding of it. The study used 'SPSS 11.0 FOR WINDOW - Statistical Package' to analyze the collected samples and dealt with data of 174 individuals. Statistical analysis of the research for hypothesis verification was about frequency, trust level, mutual relationship, variables, and T-verification. The meaningful level for any result was ranged within 95%(p< .05), 99%(p<.01). The finding are as follows. Effects on pleasure, one of elements of team spirits taken by instructor's training style are analyzed as follows. It was proved to be meaningful in relation with a series of activities like training, democratic, social, compensatory aspects and showed also considerable relation with power based behaviors. That says, players are found to enjoy high pleasure when social and bureaucratic behaviors of instructors are very energetic. In addition to that, training, democratic, and compensatory activities didn't show any meaningful effect. Team spirit was found to play a main role between instructor's behaviors and training, democratic, social rewarding activities. Democratic and social acts influence on team spirit. Looking into the detailed aspects, team spirit was resulted very high in the individuals with low democratic mind and was shown high group spirit by groups with high sociable activities. Teamworks was found to be affected by relation between instructor's acts and training, democratic, social and compensatory aspects and it showed meaningful relations with training, social, bureaucratic behaviors. Low degree of training and bureaucratic activities are found to prefer for power team spirit, and high social activities led a strong teamworks. Group binding spirit was influenced by training, democratic, social compensatory, bureaucratic behaviors and it showed to give effects on democratic, social, and bureaucratic activities of instructors. Low degree of democratic and bureaucratic behaviors are found to produce strong team spirit. In contrast with that, strong social activities was found to be motive of powerful team spirit. Value of team spirit was found to play a main role between instructor's behaviors and training, democratic, social, rewarding activities. It didn't show any meaningful effect on behavior of instructors.
This study is about the verification of the effectiveness of 'Resilient Parenting Program' based on Walsh's family resilience approach. The program was developed for strengthening parenting self-efficacy and increasing parent satisfaction and family relation as well. The program was practiced once a week for 8 weeks at the B community service center and each session lasted for 2 hours. The participants of the program were 13 mothers of elementary schools who had a need to increase their parenting skills and satisfaction. Among the 13 participants, 7 of them were arranged to the experimental group and 6 of them were included to the control group. The scores of the two groups at the point of pre-test, post-test and follow-up test, 3 months after the termination of the program, were analysed and compared through the Wilcoxen matched pairs signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test. The scales adapted in this study were the Parent Satisfaction Scale, the Parenting Self-efficacy Scale, and the Family Relation Scale. As the results of the analyses, there were significant differences of the increases in the area of parent-child relationship satisfaction, general parent satisfaction, parenting self-efficacy, and family relation between the two groups. In conclusion, the effectiveness and utilization of the program were confirmed. Also, it is verified that the program can be an important tool for strengthening healthy family functioning through the interventions of parents in the field of community based social work practice.
