  • This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effects of the supportive nursing intervention and analyze its components in 14 studies carried out from Jan. 1980 to Jun. 1997. The supportive nursing intervention studies divided into three types according to the components of conceptual definitons.; (1)supportive nursing behavior, (2)social support, and (3)combination of social support and supportive nursing behavior. The various terms referred to the supportive nursing intervention didn't have the clear differentiating conceptual and operational definitions and the logical relationship among them. The effects of supportive nursing intervention were measured by the 23 dependent variables using self-report and the 5 dependent variables using physiological indices. The dependent variables were measured more than two were role behavior compliance, anxiety, depression, health belief, knowledge about the disease, helplessness and stressful behavior response. The average effects of the supportive nursing intervention ranged from 0.218 to 2.745 for the d index. The three variables of them, which were anxiety, depression and stressful behavior response, were homogeneous statistically by homogeniety test. Results of the meta-analysis indicated that the supportive nursing intervention had moderate to large effects on anxiety(d=0.41), depression (d=0.66) and stressful behavior response (d=0.86).

  • The Korean government has implemented the senior employment policy as a direct job creation policy since 2004. A realistic discussion of policy alternatives and orientation for this has been given little attention even though senior employment policy has been carried out for the last 10 years and it will be expanded next year. This study tries to examine active labor market policy especially focusing on direct job creation programs and policies for the disadvantaged low-income elderly in OECD countries, and then it suggests some developmental alternatives for senior employment policy based on the study's results. The main results from this analysis are summarized in two points. Firstly, except pension policies, employment policy for older workers in the OECD countries is highly proportional to the tackling of objective factors reducing the demand for older workers (wage subsidies, reduced social security contribution rate etc). And the strategies of improving employability have not been relatively important and direct job creation policy has been marginal. Secondly, employment support policies for the low-income elderly can be divided into three types: support for the low-income elderly, alleviating early retirement and support for full employment according to the criteria which are determined by policy objectives and the social economic index. Korea's employment support policies belong to the type of direct job creation among them. This seems to be due to the fact that the rate of elderly poverty is extremely high and an income security system has not been developed in Korea. However, the policy objective is still uncertain. Therefore, this policy needs to set up clear objectives and establish a proper system for the achievement of its goals. If we focus on the strength of its employment characteristics, we need to modify the policy's plan in the perspective of labor market policy. But if we intend to keep both of the current objectives, it is better for this policy to be divided into two parts: social participation and income supplements. Or it also may be a solution to transform the system into an employment service, a training system which supports participants to move into unsubsidized jobs such as SCSEP in the U. S.

The index for the questionnaire was developed using the scale from the Second National Survey of Korean Families and related research. The results show that married, working men are slightly better at balancing their work and family lives than average. Furthermore, the effects of job-related variables were higher than the effects of other social-demographic variables. Job flexibility was the major variable that determined the balance between work and family. The highest need to balance between work and family was monetary support for caring and educating children. This paper concludes that in order to improve the work-family balance, the current working culture has to be changed, and various policies and strategies that encourage a family-friendly working culture must be implemented.

  • This paper empirically investigates the role of R&D intensity on market concentration of firms using four key market valuation variables, namely (1) market share, (2) labor intensity, (3) firm age and, (4) firm's market value. The empirical tests use database at firm level for the Indian IT sector from 1999 to 2013 from the CMIE Prowess database. The results of the regression analyses partially support our hypothesis that R&D intensity positively influences firm's market value measure by the H-index. The test results are consistent with the hypotheses that R&D spending is more valuable for firms with larger market shares, higher labor intensity, and firms that are diversified.

Considering the decline of the SOC system, deterioration of housing, and degeneration of economic feasibility, the purpose of this study is to provide solutions to realize an improved economic and social environment of rural communities through an integrated management system for traffic safety and water management systems. Therefore, this research used an Entity-Relationship Diagram to construct an integrated system for traffic safety and water management systems for Chungcheong rural communities. The ERD is prepared by depicting 7 relationships for 13 entities, including traffic accidents and agricultural products, and 26 attributes, including soil moisture and underflow storage. Consequently, it will be possible to set up a decision-making support system that can analyze and evaluate the regeneration index, technology, and management of the systems for Chungcheong rural communities, based on supplier and user perspectives

  • This study attempted to identify the health-related quality of life and its related factors in urban elderly women. This study used the data of the 2011 Community Health Survey. The subjects of this study were 704 elderly women. Based on the literature review, this study examined variables with health-related quality of life and construct integrated conceptual framework of the study. For data analysis, SPSS 18.0 and LISREL 8.8. were used to calculate the percentage, mean, standard deviation, Spearman correlation, and path analysis parameter. The total mean EQ-5D index score was $0.81({\pm}0.20)$ and the major problems were pain/discomfort (62.5%) and mobility (53.9%) and normal activity (38.9%). The model showed a goodness of fit to the empirical data. Age, income, health promotion behavior, social support, physical health and mental health had significant direct effects on EQ-5D and age, income, health promotion behavior and social support had indirect effects on EQ-5D. These variables explained 28% of the variance of EQ-5D. To improve the quality of life in urban elderly women, it is essential to have a comprehensive program for elderly women.
