노인 당뇨병 환자의 짝 활동 기반 건강코칭 프로그램 효과 (Effects of the Pair-Work based Health Coaching Program for Elderly Diabetic Patients)

  • Purpose: This study examined how a pair-work based health coaching program for the self-care of elderly diabetic patients effects the patients' diabetes self-management knowledge, perceived social support, diabetes self-efficacy, and diabetes self-management behaviors in patients with diabetes. Method: The participants of this study were 55 elderly diabetic patients aged 65 years or older enrolled at elderly welfare centers in U city;26 patients in the experimental group and 29 in the control group. The program consisted of eight group coaching sessions and four sessions of phone-based individual interviews and coaching, that were implemented once a week for 12 weeks. Results: Compared to the control groups, the experimental group showed significant improvement in self-care knowledge, social support, diabetes self-efficacy, self-management behavior, fasting blood sugar and glycated hemoglobin level. Conclusion: The health coaching program is an effective intervention for the self-management of elderly diabetics.

A study on work-family compatibility of female wage workers with underage children

  • 본 연구는 미성년 자녀를 둔 임금근로 여성의 일과 가정의 양립에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하는 실증 연구이다. 분석 자료는 한국여성정책연구원의 여성가족패널조사(Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women & Families) 7차 웨이브의 1,113명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구방법으로는 '사회적 지원(가정 내 지원, 모성보호 지원, 보육 및 교육서비스)'과 '일자리 특성', '인구사회학적 변인', '남편의 특성'이 '일과 가정의 양립' 및 '갈등'에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 다중회귀분석을 활용하였다. 분석결과 남편의 직장생활지지, 기업 내의 성차별, 여성의 교육연수는 일과 가정의 양립을 강화하는 요인으로 분석되었다. 그리고 기업 내의 성차별, 보육 및 교육시설 이용도, 미성년 자녀수, 남편 연령, 남편의 돌봄 도움만족도, 남편의 직장생활지지는 일과 가정의 갈등 요인으로 분석되었다. 따라서 일과 가정의 양립을 강화하는 방향이 장기적인 정책 방향이라면, 단기적으로는 갈등요인을 감소시킬 수 있는 정책의 보완 및 강화가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과가 미성년 자녀를 둔 임금근로 여성들의 모성보호와 일과 가정의 양립을 강화시키기 위한 객관적이고 학술적인 자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.

Facilitators and Barriers in the Use of a Checklist by Insurance Physicians during Work Ability Assessments in Depressive Disorder

  • Objectives: Depressive disorder (DD) is a complex disease, and the assessment of work ability in patients with DD is also complicated. The checklist depression (CDp) has recently been developed to support such work ability assessments and has been recommended for implementation in insurance medicine, starting with an analysis of the organisational and social contexts. The aim of this study was to identify the potential facilitators and barriers in the use of the CDp by insurance physicians (IPs) during work ability assessments of employees on sick leave due to DD. Methods: A qualitative research was conducted based on semi-structured interviews. The participants were IPs with at least one year of work experience in performing work ability assessments. The interviews were audiotaped, transcribed and analysed qualitatively. Results: Ten IPs (7 males, 3 females; mean 53 years) were interviewed. Important facilitators, which emerged for use of the CDp, were an oral introduction for colleagues and staff, support from management, valuing the increased transparency in work ability assessments with using the CDp, having adequate time for assessments as well as modification of the appearance (colour, plasticised form) and content (clarifying aspects of the examples) of the assessment tool. The fear of the loss of autonomy, lack of added value of the CDp, high workload, inadequate instructions and lack of time were mentioned as barriers. Conclusion: Adequate introduction to the use of CDp and the fear of the loss of autonomy of IPs need special attention in planning its implementation.

Influence of Cushioning Variables in the Workplace and in the Family on the Probability of Suffering Stress

  • Stress at work and in the family is a very common issue in our society that generates many health-related problems. During recent years, numerous studies have sought to define the term stress, raising many contradictions that various authors have studied. Other authors have attempted to establish some criteria, in subjective and not very quantitative ways, in an attempt to reduce and even to eliminate stressors and their effects at work and in the family context. The purpose of this study was to quantify so-called cushioning variables, such as control, social support, home/work life conciliation, and even sports and leisure activities, with the purpose of, as much as possible, reducing the negative effects of stress, which seriously affects the health of workers. The study employs data from the Fifth European Working Conditions Survey, in which nearly 44,000 interviewees from 34 countries in the European Union participated. We constructed a probabilistic model based on a Bayesian network, using variables from both the workplace and the family, the aforementioned cushioning variables, as well as the variable stress. If action is taken on the above variables, then the probabilities of suffering high levels of stress may be reduced. Such action may improve the quality of life of people at work and in the family.

구조방정식모형을 이용한 간호장교의 직무만족도 관련요인 분석 (Analysis of the Related Factors on Job Satisfaction in Nursing Officers Using the Structural Equation Model)

  • 본 연구는 간호장교의 인구사회학적 및 직업관련 특성에 따른 직업전문성 인식도, 직무스트레스, 사회적 지지 및 직무만족도 수준을 알아보고, 직업전문성 인식도와 직무스트레스 및 사회적 지지가 직무 만족도에 미치는 영향을 규명해 보고자 시도하였다. 조사대상은 전국 16개 군병원에 근무하는 육군 간호장교 542명으로 하였으며, 조사는 2010년 10월 1일부터 2010년 11월 30일까지의 기간 동안에 구조화된 무기명 자기기입식 설문지를 이용한 설문조사에 의하였다. 연구결과, 조사대상자의 직무만족도는 연령이 높을수록, 기혼군, 주관적인 수면의 질이 좋다는 군, 주관적인 건강상태가 좋을수록, 직위가 높을수록, 근무경력이 길수록, 업무의 신체적 부담정도가 적당하다는 군, 업무에 만족한다는 군, 직업에 대한 적성이 맞는다는 군, 직업전환의사가 없다는 군에서 유의하게 높았다. 조사대상자의 직무만족도는 직업전문성 인식도, 사회적 지지와는 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보인 반면, 직무스트레스와는 유의한 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 공분산 구조분석 결과, 직업전문성 인식도는 직무스트레스나 사회적 지지 보다 직무만족도에 더 큰 영향을 미쳤으며, 직업전문성 인식도와 사회적 지지가 높을수록, 직무스트레스가 낮을수록 직무만족도를 증가시키는 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 직업전문성 인식도와 사회적 지지가 높을수록 직무스트레스 요인을 감소시키는 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

일부 도시지역 노인들의 우울수준과 사회적지지 및 가족지지와의 관련성 (Relationship Between Depressive Symptom and Social and Family Support Among the Elderly People in Urban Areas)

  • 본 연구는 일부 도시지역 노인들의 인구사회학적 특성, 건강관련행위 특성, 건강상태, 사회적 지지망과 사회 활동특성, 사회적지지 및 가족지지에 따른 우울수준을 파악하고, 우울에 영향을 미치는 요인을 알아보고자 시도하였다. 조사대상은 도시지역 노인 412명(남자 191명, 여자 221명)으로 하였으며, 자료 수집은 2010년 6월 1일부터 7월 31일까지의 기간 동안에 표준화된 무기명식 면접조사용 설문지를 사용하여 면접조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과 조사대상노인의 우울수준은 사회적 지지 및 가족지지가 낮을수록 유의하게 높았으며(p=0.000), 우울수준은 사회적 지지 및 가족지지와 유의한 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 다중회귀분석 결과 조사대상자의 우울수준에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 사회적지지, 눈의 부자유 유무, 일상생활에 대한 만족도, 친구 수, 교육정도, 배우자유무, 취미활동 빈도, 요실금 유무 및 가족지지가 유의한 변수로 선정되었다. 따라서 도시지역 노인들의 우울수준은 사회적지지 및 가족지지가 영향요인으로 작용하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 인구사회학적 특성, 건강관련행위 특성, 건강상태, 사회적 지지망과 사회활동특성 등 여러 변수들과도 관련성이 있었다.

치과위생사의 직업몰입 영향요인 연구 (Determinants of Occupational Commitment of Dental Hygienists)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the occupational commitment of dental hygienists in Korea. The independent variables contain three groups of work rewards variables which consist of task reward variables (autonomy, job significance, resource adequacy, role conflict, workload, and routinization), social reward variables(supervisory support, co-worker support, and negative affectivity), and organizational reward variables(job security and promotional chances), and eight sociodemographic variables. The sample of this study consisted of 474 dental hygienists who work at general hospitals, university hospitals, dental hospitals and clinics across the nation. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. It was found that: (1) job significance have a significant positive effect on the occupational commitment of dental hygienists; (2) role conflict, workload, routinization, and type of work site have significant negative effect on the occupational commitment of dental hygienists; (3) the study model explains 23.7% of the variance in occupational commitment among dental hygienists. The results of the study indicate that managers of dental clinics and hospitals should make efforts to extend the scope and quality of dental hygienists' work through job enlargement and job enrichment.

직장에서 경험한 강한 감정의 전이(spillover)와 교차전이(crossover): 시카고 지역 맞벌이 부부를 중심으로 (Crossover and Spillover of Emotions from Work to Family among Working Couples in their Daily Lives)

  • 본 연구는 맞벌이 부부들의 일과 가족생활의 상호작용을 이해하는데 중요한 개념인 전이(spillover)와 교차전이(crossover)에 초점을 맞추어 직장에서 경험한 감정과 퇴근 후 가정에서의 감정 간의 관계의 분석을 통해 이들의 경험을 이해하고자 하였다. 시카고 대학의 Sloan Working Families Study의 연구대상자들을 자료로 경험표집법(Experience Sampling Method)으로 이들의 일상을 탐구하였고 t-검증으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 긍정적인 감정의 전이는 남녀 모두에게서 발견하였고, 아내의 부정적인 경험이 남편으로 전이하였다. 본 연구에서 발견된 긍정적인 감정의 전이현상은 사회사업 실천가나 연구자가 맞벌이 부부를 연구할 때 일과 가정생활 간의 전이, 교차전이 현상을 일상의 세부적인 요인들을 고려하여 심도있게 관찰, 연구해야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다.

Psychological Health Problems Among Adolescent Workers and Associated Factors in Istanbul, Turkey

  • Background: Work and work environment have a critical influence on adolescent workers' health. They are subjected to more risks than adults. The aim of this study is to examine psychological health outcomes in adolescent workers in the areas of depression, somatization, anxiety, hostility, and negative self-concept, and to investigate any related factors. Methods: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. Research samples were collected from adolescent workers between 15 and 18 years old attending a 1-day mandatory education course at vocational training centers, working 5 days per week in small enterprises. Data were collected using the following instruments: Brief Symptom Inventory, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Descriptive Characteristics of Children's Assessment Form. Results: The investigation covers 837 young workers, of whom 675 were males and 162 were females. The majority of the families had low incomes (68.1%). Overall, 33.5% of the adolescents had been hospitalized because of health problems. Their average weekly working hours were $78.1{\pm}10.7$. Almost 50% of adolescent workers scored above the mean average in the Brief Symptom Inventory, indicating serious pschological health symptoms. Those who scored high for hostility, depression, negative self-concept, anxiety, and somatization were between 45.4% and 48.9% of the sample. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the underlying factors: a perception of "feeling very bad" health conditions was 2.07-fold whereas the rate of "no annual leave" was 0.73-fold, and both were found to be effective on psychological problems. Conclusion: In this study, it seems likely that psychological health problems are the result of multiple adverse factors including working conditions, annual leave, and health considerations.

Developing a short standard questionnaire for assessing work organization hazards: the Healthy Work Survey (HWS)

  • Background: At present, no short standard questionnaire exists for assessing and comparing major work organization hazards in the workplaces of the United States. Methods: We conducted a series of psychometric tests (content validity, factor analysis, differential-item functioning analysis, reliability, and concurrent validity) to validate and identify core items and scales for major work organization hazards using the data from the 2002-2014 General Social Surveys (GSSs), including the Quality of Worklife (QWL) questionnaire. In addition, an extensive literature review was undertaken to find other major work organization hazards which were not addressed in the GSS. Results: Although the overall validity of the GSS-QWL questionnaire was satisfactory in the psychometric tests, some GSS-QWL items of work-family conflict, psychological job demands, job insecurity, use of skills on the job, and safety climate scales appeared to be weak. In the end, 33 questions (31 GSS-QWL and 2 GSS) were chosen as the least, but best validated core questions and included in a new short standard questionnaire (called the Healthy Work Survey [HWS]). And their national norms were established for comparisons. Furthermore, based on the literature review, fifteen more questions for assessing other significant work organization hazards (e.g., lack of scheduling control, emotional demands, electronic surveillance, wage theft) were included in the new questionnaire. Thus, the HWS includes 48 questions in total for assessing traditional and emerging work organization hazards, which covers seven theoretical domains: work schedule/arrangement, control, support, reward, demands, safety, and justice. Conclusions: The HWS is a short standard questionnaire for assessing work organization hazards which can be used as a first step toward the risk management of major work organization hazards in the workplaces of the US.
