  • In an electricity market with imperfect competition, participants devise bidding plans and transaction strategies to maximize their own profits. The market price and the quantity are concerned with the operation reserve as well as the bidding system and demand curves in an electricity market. This paper presents a market model combined by an energy market and an operating reserve market. The competition of the generation producers in the combined market is formulated as a gaming of selecting bid parameters such as intersections and slopes in bid functions. The Nash Equilibrium (NE) is analyzed by using bi-level optimization; maximization of Social Welfare (SW) and maximization of the producers' profits.

  • Violence against women includes sexual violence, domestic violence, trafficking, etc. It is a serious problem that violates women's rights and basic freedom. In Korea, with the enactment of the laws on sexual violence and domestic violence in the 1990s, counseling centers and protective facilities for the victims began to be established and have been rapidly increasing in number recently. The purpose of this research was to investigate the current status of the counseling services with a focus on their linkage function. 78 out of 109 counselors working in the counseling centers for sexual and domestic violence throughout Korea responded to a mail survey. The questions included the general characteristics of the centers and the counselors, the structural, relationship and process dimensions of linkage function, and the subjective and objective aspects of the degree of linkage. The findings of the analysis highlighted the following problems. First, the counseling centers played limited role in serving the victims of violence due to lack of resources in the service network. Second, the linkage of services existed on a relatively small scale which was mostly based upon informal and unstructured relationship. Third, according to the multivariate analysis, the existence of potential partner agencies, the effort of the line staff to initiate the linkage relationship and mutual cooperation between agencies determined the degree of linkage among services. These findings suggest implications for establishing a more effective system to protect the victims of violence.

  • This ethnography explored the construction of a social network and its function in a classroom of toddlers in a day-care center located in Vermont. The classroom activities of 9 two-year-old toddlers were observed for about two months, compiled and categorized. Then, the themes of psychological functions were reconstructed in data analysis. Results showed that toddlers constructed multiple relations with all peers beyond the dyadic. They also transmitted information to teachers as well as peers in indirect ways. These direct-multiple interactions as well as indirect interactions reflect the social network of Lewis' (2005) theory. In the construction of social networks, the toddlers developed communication skills, turn-taking skills, leadership, and imitation.

  • There are few studies on the estimation of social expenditures, since few efforts so far have been made to introduce and study social expenditures based on OECD standards. Previous studies focused on the total amount based on ILO and IMF criteria, which is limited in the estimation of social expenditures by function and in detail. Accordingly, government and research institutes have faced difficulties from the lack of relevant statistics in establishing policies and performing research. This study, therefore, aims to develop an estimation model for social expenditures, and define the scope of the social security scheme and finances. In the process of developing this model, the accuracy of the scale of social expenditures estimated according to OECD criterion was also considered. Specifically, efforts were made to secure transparency of estimation through omission or duplication of expenditures. The estimation of Korea's social expenditures is applied to this model. The estimates for the year 1997 revealed 30,918.2 billion Won or 6.82% of GDP, which is a 20.8% increase per annum.

  • The goal of this study is to find a design pattern of platform of chapel according to acceptance of community's social activities and classify a forms of platform design between urban and rural community church. It was surveyed by 18 community churches including of 8 rural churches. And it was comprised in main contents that this study surveyed about social functions of church and composition of room, a transformation of worship and platform, and furniture of platform. As a results of this study, I could suggest a conclusions as follows; firstly, community churches are trying hard to make their social functions wide and deep. Secondly it was necessary for them to prepare a spaces and rooms for service of community people like a social welfare and christian cultural activities. Thirdly, the form of platform and style of worship were serviced by transformation for the acceptance of community requirements. Finally, the service style of chapel and platform have been transformed in a view point of accommodation of community since early 2000.

  • Support vector quantile regression (SVQR) can be obtained by applying support vector machine with a check function instead of an e-insensitive loss function into the quantile regression, which still requires to solve a quadratic program (QP) problem which is time and memory expensive. In this paper we propose an SVQR whose objective function is composed of an asymmetric quadratic loss function. The proposed method overcomes the weak point of the SVQR with the check function. We use the iterative procedure to solve the objective problem. Furthermore, we introduce the generalized cross validation function to select the hyper-parameters which affect the performance of SVQR. Experimental results are then presented, which illustrate the performance of proposed SVQR.

  • This study examined the difference in perception of supervision between supervisors and supervisees of community welfare centers. The survey subjects were 100 social workers working at social welfare centers in Seoul, Busan, and Incheon. The survey subjects were 62% women and 38% men in their 30s. Approximately 98% of supervisors and 88% of supervisees had a college degree or higher. Regarding the total working period of social welfare institutions, 82% of supervisors and 12% of supervisees had five years or more experience. Regarding the perception of the overall supervision between the supervisors and supervisees, the supervisors and supervisees reported a score of 3.79 and 3.46, respectively. In the perception of supervision according to function, in the case of administrative supervision recognition, the supervisors and supervisees reported a score of 3.78 and 3.43, respectively, and in the educational supervision recognition, the supervisors and supervisees reported a score of 3.65 and 3.29, respectively. Regarding supportive supervision perception, the supervisors and supervisees reported a score of 3.94 and 3.67, respectively. As shown in the above results, the difference in the perception of supervisor and supervisee's supervision by function shows that the supervisor's supervision by all functions is higher than that of the supervisee. As a result, such supervisions are relatively low among supervisees who are provided with supervisions than supervisions that are perceived as being provided by supervisors.
