  • This study aims to investigate how tie strength in business networks affects successful knowledge sharing, as well as the impact of environmental uncertainty on the relationship between knowledge sharing and tie strength. We gathered data through a questionnaire-based survey of 310 employees affiliated with a high-technology industry in Korea. The results highlighted the positive influence of strong ties on tacit knowledge sharing and weak ties on explicit knowledge sharing. Additionally, in this study, we determine that strong ties are strengthened to share tacit knowledge with exchange parties when environmental uncertainty is high, whereas weak ties may remain unaffected by environmental uncertainty. This study contributes to the literature on tie strength and knowledge sharing by applying social capital theory to a high-technology industry. The findings suggest that firms must take advantage of strong and weak ties to facilitate knowledge sharing to enhance competency, create novel knowledge, and obtain a competitive advantage.

  • Residential space can be stated as a decisive body compositely affected by environmental, physical, social, and cultural influences. Resulting from this idea, residential space can be defined as a mirror reflecting peoples' life at that period. Therefore, it is possible to understand the social and cultural aspects of a certain era through analyzing the residential space built and used at that period. Viewing from this point, latter term of Chosun Period, as a transitional period, was a tie of collapse for the structure of middle-class society forcing its identity system to be reorganized, and of improving upon commerce, agriculture, and manual industry to enable modernization. Following this idea, the goal of this research is to analyze characteristics of higher middle class residences built at the close of 19th century in Gyeonggi province in order to bring into light the change of social structure of the period.

  • The Internet has generated a number of online review sites where dissatisfied consumers can easily articulate their opinions and comments on products or services. Little attention, however, has been directed to investigating the relationship between negative electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) and its critical determinants that affect consumers' purchasing behaviors. This study attempts to explore the influence of the key determinants of consumers' negative eWOM behaviors, including their social relationships online. The results show that tie strength is positively associated with the proposed determinants, such as information credibility, external search efforts, and product involvement. Further, we find that perceived risk plays a mediating role in the relationship between consumers' intention to spread eWOM and its key determinants.

  • This study establishes a simple Causal Map in order to understand the structure of Social Network Services(SNS). From this, the paper proposes a simulation with drawing Simulation Model and it examines whether a Dunbar Number is available for the emergence of collective intelligence based on an on-line network. Through my analytical research, it turn out both Closed SNS and Open SNS have their own Dunbar Number. However, it appear that Open SNS can expand infinitely as it has a unique property namely weak tie. This implies that it is significant for a system or policy to be developed in order to overcome the problem of Dunbar Number, whereas restricting the extension of a network by considering the Dunbar Number would have a negative impact on emergence of collective intelligence.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the common factors that affect adolescents, drinking and delinquency. Previous studies have supported that parenting is the most important variable to explain adolescents' drinking and delinquency. For study, 497 adolescents from middle schools and high schools in Inchon city, Korea, were recruited. Instrument for measurement consists of affective-tie and supervision regarding parenting, drinking, and delinquency. Stepwise multiple regression was used as a main statistical analysis. According to the results, even though there is some association between drinking and delinquency, this study found that the most strong predictable variable in explaining adolescents' drinking and delinquency is parenting. That is to say, effective parenting can contribute to prevent adolescents's drinking and delinquency. Therefore, this study suggests that social services and programs to support effective parenting should be provided.

Second, there are gaps between consciousness and practice of division of gender role in family. But social workers generally are inclined toward receiving division of gender role in family and applied to their family practice. Third, monolithic family image have a tendency of versatility in family structure, is inclined toward the division of gender role and myth of motherhood. Fourth, social workers perceived emotional tie as important nature of family solidarity and family as natural institution. Also these discourses of social workers were applied to their family practice. The results of this study reveals possibility that social work practice can be discoursive practice or interpretive practice.

  • Objectives: The goal of this paper is to examine the social network effects on post-traumatic sdress disorder (PTSD) in female North Korean immigrants who entered South Korea in 2007. Specifically, it attempts to verify if the density and composition of networks make a difference after controlling for the network size. Methods: A multivariate logistic regression is used to probe the effects of social networks using the North Korean Immigrant Panel data set. Because the data set had only completed its initial survey when this paper was written, the analysis was cross-sectional. Results: The size of the support networks was systematically related to PTSD. Female North Korean immigrants with more supporting ties were less likely to develop PTSD, even after controlling for other risk factors (odds-ratio for one more tie was 0.8). However, once we control for the size of the network, neither the density nor the composition of the networks remains statistically significant. Conclusions: The prevalence of the PTSD among female North Korean immigrants is alarmingly high, and regardless of the characteristics of supporting network members, the size of the supporting networks provides substantial protection. This implies that a simple strategy that focuses on increasing the number of supporting ties will be effective among North Korean immigrants who entered South Korea in recent years.
