Jumpstarting the Digital Revolution: Exploring Smart City Architecture and Themes

  • Over the last few decades, various innovative technologies have emerged that have significantly contributed to making life easier for humans. Various information and communication technologies (ITCs) have emerged as a result of the global technological revolution, including big data, IoT, 4G and 5G networks, cloud computing, mobile computing, and artificial intelligence. These technologies have been adopted in urban planning and development, which gave rise to the concept of smart cities in the 1990s. A smart city is a type of city that uses ITCs to exchange and share information to enhance the quality of services for its citizens. With the global population increasing at unprecedented levels, cities are overwhelmed with a myriad of challenges, such as the energy crisis, environmental pollution, sanitation and sewage challenges, and water quality issues, and therefore, have become a convergence point of economic, social, and environmental risks. The concept of a smart city is a multidisciplinary, unified approach that has been adopted by governments and municipalities worldwide to overcome these challenges. Though challenging, this transformation is essential for cities with differing technological and social features, which all have the potential to determine the success or failure of the digital transformation of cities into smart cities. In recent years, researchers, businesses, and the government have all turned their attention to the emerging field of smart cities. Accordingly, this paper aims to represent a thorough understanding of the movement toward smart cities. The key themes identified are smart city definitions and concepts, smart city dimensions, and smart city architecture of different layers. Furthermore, this article discusses the challenges and some examples of smart cities.

  • As the social distance has been strengthened by the COVID-19 Pandemics, telecommuting has spread, and government agencies have also begun telecommuting since March and are still maintaining a certain level. The Government's remote work service, Government Virtual Private Network (GVPN), which is essential to telecommuting of government agencies, is expected to cause a number of problems with the rapid increase in users in a short period of time. Therefore, a survey and statistical analysis were conducted to analyze the impact of the quality factors of GVPN on the users' satisfaction to the public officials of the government departments who are directly using it, and based on these results, we intend to derive the implications necessary for the improvement of GVPN for remote work in preparation for the full-fledged spread of the non-contact era.

  • The population of the elderly is rapidly increased because maturation of the social welfare system and development of medical technology. However, welfare environments for the elderly are poor either in its quality or its quantity. The aims of this study is to confirm the space improvement possibility to change the Gyung Ro Dang to the senior life support center as a community welfare service network. This study is done by the comparative analysis between existing Gyung Ro Dang in korea and former cases in Japan based on the elderly's facility preference. The facility's space reprogramming alternative from that analysis is applied to change the Gyung Ro Dang to a network facility for the regional senior life support. Afterward, it is proposed that first, facilities should be expanded scale by the new education and health improvement facilities functional room that the modern elderly need. second, Facility space will be reconstitution because the Gyung Ro Dang have to be extended it's role as a community welfare network.

Knowledge Structure of the Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing through Network Analysis (네트워크분석을 통한 직업건강간호학회지 논문의 지식구조 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify knowledge structure of the Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing from 1991 to 2014. Methods: 400 articles between 1991 and 2014 were collected. 1,369 keywords as noun phrases were extracted from articles and standardized for analysis. Co-occurrence matrix was generated via a cosine similarity measure, then the network was analyzed and visualized using PFNet. Also NodeXL was applied to visualize intellectual interchanges among keywords. Results: According to the results of the content analysis and the cluster analysis of author keywords from the Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing articles, 7 most important research topics of the journal were 'Workers & Work-related Health Problem', 'Recognition & Preventive Health Behaviors', 'Health Promotion & Quality of Life', 'Occupational Health Nursing & Management', 'Clinical Nursing Environment', 'Caregivers and Social Support', and 'Job Satisfaction, Stress & Performance'. Newly emerging topics for 4-year period units were observed as research trends. Conclusion: Through this study, the knowledge structure of the Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing was identified. The network analysis of this study will be useful for identifying the knowledge structure as well as finding general view and current research trends. Furthermore, The results of this study could be utilized to seek the research direction in the Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing.

Semantic Network Analysis of Physiotherapy Research: Based on Studies Published in the Journal of IAPTR

  • Background: Physical therapy has been widely studied in various fields, however, the academic trends and characteristics has not been systematically analyzed. Semantic network analysis is used as an approach for this study. Objective: To explore academic trends and knowledge system in the physiotherapy research in the Journal of International Academy Physical Therapy (J of IAPTR) Study design : Literature review Method: Semantic network analysis was conducted using the titles of 272 articles published in the Journal of IAPTR from 2010 to 2019. Results: Frequency analysis revealed following most frequently used key words; Stroke (27 times), Balance (21 times), Elder (13 times), Forward head posture (FHP, 11 times), Muscle activity (9 times). The relationship between the presented keywords is divided into six subgroups (FHP and pain, walk and quality, elder and balance, stroke and apoptosis, muscle strength and function) according to their correlation and frequency to be used together. Conclusion: The study is considered to be of help to researchers who want to identify research trends in physiotherapy.

Image compression using K-mean clustering algorithm

  • With the development of communication networks, the processes of exchanging and transmitting information rapidly developed. As millions of images are sent via social media every day, also wireless sensor networks are now used in all applications to capture images such as those used in traffic lights, roads and malls. Therefore, there is a need to reduce the size of these images while maintaining an acceptable degree of quality. In this paper, we use Python software to apply K-mean Clustering algorithm to compress RGB images. The PSNR, MSE, and SSIM are utilized to measure the image quality after image compression. The results of compression reduced the image size to nearly half the size of the original images using k = 64. In the SSIM measure, the higher the K, the greater the similarity between the two images which is a good indicator to a significant reduction in image size. Our proposed compression technique powered by the K-Mean clustering algorithm is useful for compressing images and reducing the size of images.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose useful suggestions by analyzing research Xiaomi which are big data analyses, by collecting data based on Customer Perception in Textom. Methods: The collected data through scraping social media on the Textom site. And data preprocessing was performed using deleting and organizing data(text) that are duplicated, irrelevant, and where there is no meaning. The derived data were analyzed using Textom and Ucinet 6.0 with Text Analysis, WordClould, TF-IDF, Network Analysis, and Emotional analysis. Results: The results of this study are as follows; although the results of Xiaomi's text at domestic and global were similar, it was analyzed that there were perceptions of Xiaomi-related smart home products and cost-effectiveness in Korea, while in foreign countries, there were perceptions of functions and performance centered on smartphones. At domestic and global, the perception of Xiaomi was analyzed to be positive, and implications were presented based on these analysis results. Conclusion: Based on the results, if the product's performance or product competitiveness is considered to be meaningful in the market, and it is expected that there will be an opportunity to change the overall image of Chinese products.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how future images are embodied in contemporary fashion design. To find out future images expressed in contemporary fashion design, this paper characterized the future society as information society, network society, pluralistic society, and global village. Cyber design and techno-style expressed through metal or lustrous material which is influenced by information symbolize future image. Also, minimalism which is characterized as simplicity and purity affects the contemporary fashion design. The network society which affets t the horizontal and functional social system diminishes the meaning of socio-economic status. Therefore, street fashion has diffused to high fashion, and the formal wear has tendency to be changed into casual wear. In addition, the meaning of status symbol in contemporary fashion design become decreased. The pluralistic society affects to search for one's own personality and identity. Also, contemporary fashion design is influenced by post-modernism and deconstructionism. In order words, genderless, ageles, seasonless, and infra fashion appeared. The global village emphasizes extension of universality in life style and search for world quality. so, ethnic fashions appear frequently in contemporary fashion design. Also, the effects of Korean traditional costume to contemporary fashion design has increased.

Identifying Barriers to Big Data Analytics: Design-Reality Gap Analysis in Saudi Higher Education

  • The spread of cloud computing, digital computing, and the popular social media platforms have led to increased growth of data. That growth of data results in what is known as big data (BD), which seen as one of the most strategic resources. The analysis of these BD has allowed generating value from massive raw data that helps in making effective decisions and providing quality of service. With Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia seeks to invest in BD technologies, but many challenges and barriers have led to delays in adopting BD. This research paper aims to search in the state of Big Data Analytics (BDA) in Saudi higher education sector, identify the barriers by reviewing the literature, and then to apply the design-reality gap model to assess these barriers that prevent effective use of big data and highlights priority areas for action to accelerate the application of BD to comply with Vision 2030.

  • This paper discusses the use of sentiment analysis and text summarization techniques to extract valuable information from the large volume of user-generated content such as reviews, comments, and feedback on online platforms and social media. The paper highlights the effectiveness of sentiment analysis in identifying positive and negative reviews and the importance of summarizing such text to facilitate comprehension and convey essential findings to readers. The proposed work focuses on summarizing all positive and negative reviews to enhance product quality, and the performance of the generated summaries is measured using ROUGE scores. The results show promising outcomes for the developed methods in summarizing user-generated content.
