  • With the Westernization and opening of our society, adolescents' smoking is increasing and being popularized. Many adolescents start smoking at an early age out of curiosity and venturesomeness, and earlier start of smoking makes it more difficult to quit smoking. Adolescents' habitual smoking not only becomes a gateway to all kinds of substance abuse but also causes various health problems including upper respiratory infection, immature lung development, reduced maximum vital capacity, and lung cancer. Therefore, it is quite important to prevent adolescents from smoking. The lowering of adolescents' smoking rate cannot be achieved only through social restrictions such as stereotyped education on the harms of smoking and ID checking. In order to lower adolescents' smoking rate substantially, each area of society should develop standardized programs and make related efforts. As adolescents' smoking is highly influenced by home environment or school life, it is necessary to make efforts in effective education and social reinforcement in school, to establish related norms, and to execute preventive education using peer groups. When these efforts are spread throughout society in cooperation with homes and communities, they will be helpful to protect adolescents' health and improve their quality of life.

  • Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland expands scope of Children's Literature genre by introducing the discourse of pleasure as opposed to that of didactic discipline. Carroll's narrative is important, not only for children's literature, but also as a forerunner of post/modernism of James Joyce with its language play and linguistic invention. Its treatment of Alice's body change follows the motif of body transformation in myth and literature. Comparing "stasis" of Susan Sontag's character Alice (James) in her play Alice in Bed and "movement" of Carroll's Alice, this study explores the issues of woman's alienation and the dichotomy of mobility/immobility in reality and in their literary representations. Focusing on a female child's double alienation as woman and child, I argue Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a counter-narrative of alternative bildungsroman. Alice gains her subjectivity through her adventure by power of language and story-telling. Through representation of the dream/adventure of two desiring sisters, Carroll's narrative exhibits subversion of social order and emergence of new order of "chaosmos" out of chaos. As a method of study, this study traces genealogy of "curiosity" in myth and literature as a motivating force that triggers adventure and argues "creative curiosity" is a dynamic energy propelling Alice's adventure.

  • Locative media is fundamentally different from traditional media in terms of being packed with user's space, place, and position nearby, which does not simply mean user's physical coordinates. This study has been started that I was drawn by the tendency of which current locative media contents are based on 'location-based information,' and closely related with 'Augmented Reality.' I wonder how media user's psychological experience/involvement are revealed when the media environment changes by the progress of technology. I wonder how media users perceive 'social presence' formed by locative media in current locative media environment. Particularly, the fact that user's perception of social presence formed in locative media conflicts with the previous computer-mediated communication(CMC)'s attributes deepened my curiosity. In this study, the idea of 'more-proper-construct' is suggested, the characteristics of social presence in current locative media is considered, and is investigated by qualitative methodology how the 'location-based' attributes and 'AR' contribute to forming the social presence.

  • People have adopted Social Networking Sites (SNSs) as a part of their daily lives. When a person uses SNSs, (s)he intentionally or unintentionally discloses her/his personal information. Although using SNSs can provide benefits to a person such as maintaining relationships with people who does not see often, it also opens a dark side. Someone can use one's disclosed information without the acknowledgement of the information owner. It is called a privacy intrusion on SNSs, which has become a social problem and needs attention. This study examined factors affecting privacy intrusion intention on SNSs. This study classifies privacy intrusions into passive intrusion (collector) and active intrusion (distributor). The results reveal that low ethical consciousness positively affects enjoyment in both of collecting and distributing someone's personal information on SNSs. A person who has the low ethical consciousness also tends to raise her/his curiosity of collecting someone's private information on SNSs. Apart from low ethical consciousness, this study discloses how enjoyment, curiosity, experience of being a victim of privacy intrusion, experience of intruding others' privacies, and self-efficacy of collecting or distributing others' private information are related to passive or/and active privacy intrusion on SNSs with survey data.

  • With the increasing number of social media users worldwide, cases of social media being abused to perpetrate various crimes are increasing. Specifically, drug distribution through social media is emerging as a serious social problem. Using social media channels, the curiosity of teenagers regarding drugs is stimulated through clever marketing. Further, social media easily facilitates drug purchases due to the high accessibility of drug sellers and consumers. Among various social media platforms, we focused on Instagram, which is the most used social media platform by young adults aged 19 to 24 years in South Korea. We collected four types of information, including profile photos, introductions, posts in the form of images, and posts in the form of texts on Instagram; then, we analyzed the similarity among each type of collected information. The profile photos and posts in the form of image were analyzed for similarity based on the SSIM(Structural Simplicity Index Measure), while introductions and posts in the form of text were analyzed for similarity using Jaccard and Cosine similarity techniques. Through the similarity analysis, the similarity among various accounts for each collected information type was measured, and accounts with similarity above the significance level were determined as the same drug sales account. By performing logistic regression analysis on the aforementioned information types, we confirmed that except posts in image form, profile photos, introductions, and posts in the text form were valid information for tracking the same drug sales account.
