  • This paper proposes a SOC platform which is eligible for education and application SOC design. The platform, fully synthesizable and reconfigurable, includes the OpenRISC embedded processor, some basic peripherals such as GPIO, UART, debug interlace, VGA controller and WISHBONE interconnect. The platform uses a set of development environment such as compiler, assembler, debugger and RTOS that is built for HW/SW system debugging and software development. Designed SOC, IPs and Testbenches are described in the Verilog HDL and verified using commercial logic simulator, GNU SW development tool kits and the FPGA. Finally, a multimedia SOC derived from the SOC platform is implemented to ASIC using the Magnachip cell library based on 0.18um 1-poly 6-metal technology.

  • Multiprocessor system on chip (MPSoC) platform has set a new innovative trend for the System on Chip (SoC) design. With the rapidly approaching billion transistors era, some of the main problem in deep sub-micron technologies characterized by gate lengths in the range of 60-90 nm will arise from non scalable wire delays, errors in signal integrity and un-synchronized communication. These problems may be addressed by the use of Network on Chip (NOC) architecture for future SoC. Most future SoCs will use network architecture and a packet based communication protocol for on chip communication. This paper presents an adaptive wormhole routing with proactive turn prohibition to guarantee deadlock free on chip communication for NOC architecture. It shows a simple muting architecture with five full-duplex, flit-wide communication channels. We provide simulation results for message latency and compare results with those of dimension ordered techniques operating at the same link rates.

  • This paper describes ASIC design of Multimedia application SoC platform based RISC processor with BTB(Branch Target Buffer). For performance enhancement of platform, we use a simple branch prediction scheme, BTB structure, that stores a target address for branch instruction to remove pipeline harzard. Also, the platform includes a number of peripheral such as VGA controller, AC97 controller, UART controller, SRAM interface and Debug interface. The platform is designed and verified on a Xilinx VERTEX-4 FPGA using a number of test programs for functional tests and timing constraints. Finally, the platform is implemented into a single ASIC chip which can be operated at 100MHz clock frequency using the Chartered 0.18um process. As a result of performance estimation, the proposed platform shows about 5~9% performance improvement in comparison with the previous SoC Platform.

  • This paper presents a study on the Full-HD HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder IP(Intellectual Property) design. The designed IP is for HEVC main profile 4.1, and performs encoding with a speed of 60 fps of full high definition. Before hardware and software design, overall reference model was developed with C language, and we proposed a parallel processing architecture for low-power consumption. And also we coded firmware and driver programs relating IP. The platform for verification of developed IP was developed, and we verified function and performance for various pictures under several encoding conditions by implementing designed IP to FPGA board. Compared to HM-13.0, about 35% decrease in bit-rate under same PSNR was achieved, and about 25% decrease in power consumption under low-power mode was performed.

  • In this research a signal processing system is designed for detecting the ultrasonic signal envelope using Xilinx's Zynq SoC(system on chip). As a design tool, Vivado IDE(integrated design environment) is used to hierarchically design the whole signal processing system. The proposed system consists of a Zynq-internal ADC, an FIR(finite impulse response) BPF(band pass filter), an absolute value calculator, an FIR LPF(lpw pass filter), and the Kalman filter. Under this configuration, two design schemes, HW design scheme with LPF as a final stage and HW/SW co-design scheme with a Kalman filter as a final stage, are compared in terms of the performance and efficiency. As a result, envelope detecting performances of the two schemes are proved to be almost same, but the HW/SW co-design is verified to be much more efficient than the HW design considering the much smaller time consumption during system design.

  • This paper describes ASIC design of multimedia SoC Platform. The implemented Platform consists of 32-bit OpenRISC1200 Microprocessor, WISHBONE on-chip bus, VGA Controller, Debug Interface, SRAM Interface and UART. The 32-bit OpenRISC1200 processor has 5 stage pipeline and Harvard architecture with separated instruction/data bus. The VGA Controller can display RCB data on a CRT or LCD monitor. The Debug Interface supports a debugging function for the Platform. The SRAM Interface supports 18-bit address bus and 32-bit data bus. The UART provides RS232 protocol, which supports serial communication function. The Platform is design and verified on a Xilinx VERTEX-4 XC4VLX80 FPGA board. Test code is generated by a cross compiler' and JTAG utility software and gdb are used to download the test code to the FPGA board through parallel cable. Finally, the Platform is implemented into a single ASIC chip using Chatered 0.18um process and it can operate at 100MHz clock frequency.

  • A secure and effective on-chip bus for detecting and preventing malicious attacks by infected IPs is presented in this paper. Most system inter-connect (on-chip bus) are vulnerable to hardware Trojan (Malware) attack because all data and control signals are routed. A proposed secure bus with modifications in arbitration, address decoding, and wrapping for bus master and slaves is designed using the Advanced High-Performance and Advance Peripheral Bus (AHB and APB Bus). It is implemented with the concept that arbiter checks share of masters and manage infected masters and slaves in every transaction. The proposed hardware is designed with the Xilinx 14.7 ISE and verified using the HBE-SoC-IPD test board equipped with Virtex4 XC4VLX80 FPGA device. The design has a total gate count of 40K at an operating frequency of 250MHz using the $0.13{\mu}m$ TSMC process.
