  • Recently, as smart phone technology is developing, wearable devices is also accelerating. But, the wearable device is necessary to operated for a long time with a small electric power because werable device is made compact. In this paper, we design and implement efficient lithium polymer battery model suitable to miniaturized wearable device in oder to maximize ease of use. The proposed model is characterized by a compact size of the battery by applying a thermal element and a light-weight battery. Also, proposed model gives greatly improve the life of wearable devices because it uses a method using the characteristics of the Peltier device using the temperature difference between the room temperature and body temperature of a person to generate power for charging. In particular, the proposed model can be used for the wearable device, as well as auxiliary charging of the smart phone.

  • Today, wearable technology products are used in a wide range of consumer, healthcare, bio-medical, and industrial applications. The market for wearable technology products is expected to increase dramatically over the next several years. In addition, concerns for safety, performance and reliability of wearable products keep increasing and will be essential for widespread acceptance in the marketplace. Wearable smart devices, which are generally in contact with the human body and skin, are exposed to the risk of the electric shock, burn, and explosion. Therefore, the standardization of wearable devices in terms of human safety and reliability should be very important. Furthermore, the development of test method and test certification of the wearable products will be one of the key technology for mass production. Such standardization and certification will help consumers to choose the safest and best quality wearable devices and allow manufacturers to prove the safety and quality of their products, thereby helping them to gain a competitive technology. This paper discusses the current status of the wearable smart devices as well as the standardization and test certification applicable to wearable technology products.

  • In this paper, a voice, object, and optical character recognition platform including voice recognition-based smart wearable devices, smart devices, and web AI servers was proposed as an appropriate technology to help the visually impaired to live independently by learning the life cycle of the visually impaired in advance. The wearable device for the visually impaired was designed and manufactured with a reverse neckband structure to increase the convenience of wearing and the efficiency of object recognition. And the high-sensitivity small microphone and speaker attached to the wearable device was configured to support the voice recognition interface function consisting of the app of the smart device linked to the wearable device. From experimental results, the voice, object, and optical character recognition service used open source and Google APIs in the web AI server, and it was confirmed that the accuracy of voice, object and optical character recognition of the service platform achieved an average of 90% or more.

  • As the next generation of smartphone and tablet computers, wearable devices are currently being developed and available in market in various forms. Smart clothing is a wearable device that holds the greatest potential for future development but low in market penetration. This study was designed to identify factors that influence adoption and diffusion of smart clothing. In-depth interviews with potential consumers who were knowledgeable about and interested in smart clothing were conducted. A semantic network analysis method was used. The results showed that consumers perceived smart clothing as a garment rather than as a type of wearable device and had a positive perception of smart apparel as more convenient and advanced than functional apparel. At the same time, however, consumers had a negative perception of smart clothing as unnecessary, ugly, and injurious to health. Consumers also worried that wearing smart apparel over long periods of time would negatively impact their health. Factors affecting resistance to smart apparel included low utility, perceived risk, and lack of aesthetic completeness. Usefulness and convenience were factors that affected the acceptance of smart clothing. The innovativeness of the product was more influential than consumer innovativeness in the process of adoption and diffusion of smart clothing.

  • Recently, smart wearable devices for monitoring health status have been utilized as interest in health care has increased. In this paper, we developed a fatigue measurement system that works with smart wearable devices. Unlike physical fatigue that is restored when you take enough rest, mental fatigue can decrease the efficiency or concentration of work, so you can monitor your mental health status through measurements. This system provides the function to transmit the measured data from the smart wearable device to the smartphone and to calculate the mental fatigue. A fatigue index was developed to measure fatigue and expressed as a number from 1 to 5. In addition, the results of the fatigue calculation and the survey were compared with the results of the independent sample t-test. Therefore, this system will be used to help users manage their health efficiently.

  • As smart phone market has been rapidly saturated, wearable devices have been emerging as a new growth power in the post smart phone era. This study aims to comprehend the influential factors of purchasing intention of product features(perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use) and individual characteristics(innovation, fashion leadership, self-efficacy, concern for health) of wrist wearable device. The result shows that fashion leadership and health concern among consumers' individuality, and perceived usefulness and perceived usability among product features are proved to be significant factors. This means that both usefulness and usability have significant impacts on purchase intention of wearable device and product development should be made to enhance user experience.

  • Although various wearable devices applying information technologies are launched, only some of them are forming their own markets, and product which general consumers started to use in their daily life is believed to be smart watch. This study is intended to find factors why such smart watches are selected in terms of individual consumer's characteristics in smart watches whose market is under its early stage. Smart watches are not forming their markets yet and this product is rather closer to a device attached to smart phone. But they would form markets only if their value is approved by themselves. This study looked into a structure under which smart watch forms its preference in terms of individual consumer and consumers are willing to use it. This study has its meaning by looking into factors why smart watch is spreading in market in terms of individual consumer's characteristics. Results from this study are believed to provide fruitful implication to establish market strategy for wearable devices including smart watch that is not much used yet by consumers.

  • Today all kinds of smart devices are being developed with various researches on wearable devices that support smart computing on the human body. Skin diseases continue to rise including freckles, pimples, atopy, and scalp trouble due to the environmental and genetic factors, and people pay bigger medical bills to treat their skin diseases. There is thus a need to develop a smart-phone or table-based smart healthcare imaging system of high portability and diagnostic accuracy capable of analyzing and managing various skin problems related to skin care. This study proposed an integrated system combining the Smart Mi Band, a wearable device using moisture and UV sensors based on IoT, on the hardware part with the sensor information monitoring software.

  • Recently, smart wearable products, including electromyography (EMG) measurement devices and clothing, have been developed to monitor users' exercise levels, muscle activation, and muscle balance more effectively during fitness activities. However, technical and socioeconomic barriers, such as flexibility and durability, still pose challenges in terms of comfort, ease of wear, and wearability of smart clothing, which includes devices and circuits. To address these issues, this study developed a wearable EMG device integrated with clothing to collect valid EMG signals from desired muscles while maintaining comfort, functionality, and ease of wear. After deriving a combined structure that could stably position the wearable device within the clothing, a prototype was manufactured and evaluated for fit, compression, comfort, and exercise comfort test by ten participants (height = 176.2 cm, weight = 76.4 kg, chest circumference = 101.2 cm). The study found that the prototype had smaller circumferences around the chest, waist, and abdomen compared to commercial products, resulting in lower ratings for wearing comfort and ease of wear. However, the prototype received high ratings for fitting, pressure, and the exercise comfort test. Valid signals were obtained when the EMG device was combined to the prototype for the rectus femoris muscle, indicating stable positioning of the device during exercise.
