Objectives : The purposes of this study were to evaluate exhaust ventilation systems(EVSs) and to suggest problems and improvements. Methods : For 50 small and medium-sized enterprises, we carried out evaluation of EVSs. We evaluated hoods with smoke tester and measurement of capture velocity. In addition, we used several indicators for performance evaluation designed in this study. Results : 1. Based on the smoke flow pattern and the criteria of occupational health and safety act, 67.8% of hoods were rated 'good' level at smoke test whereas 26.3% were rated 'good' level at measurement of capture velocity. 2. 29.3% of hoods, of which ratio of measured actual air flow at hood(Qah) to required ideal exhaust air flow at hood(Qih) was 1 or more, were rated 'good' level. 3. The % of EVS, of which ratio of measured actual air flow at stack(Qast) to total required ideal exhaust air flow at hood(Qith) was 1 or more, was 29.0%. 4. For the ratio of measured Qast to existing air flow at fan(Qfan), only 5% of EVSs were 1 or more and 26.0% were 0.8 or more but less than 1.0. 5. For the ratio of measured Qast to total measured actual exhaust air flow at hood(Qath), 74.0% were 0.8 or more but less than 1.0. 6. The percentage of EVS, of which ratio of total measured Qath to existing Qfan was 0.8 or more, was 19.0%. 7. The percentage of EVS, of which ratio of total measured Qath to total required ideal exhaust Qith was 1 or more, was 26.0%. 8. For the comprehensive evaluation indicators designed in this study, 29.0% were 0.8 or more. Conclusions : We found that few exhaust local ventilations at small and medium-sized enterprises were rated 'good' level and that most exhaust local ventilations had 'poor' design and installation. Therefore, relevant professional manpower and enterprises have to construct exhaust local ventilation where it is needed, and technical guidance and economic support are needed to improve 'poor' exhaust local ventilation after self-evaluation.
This research studied the determinants of private R&D investment by examining the innovation strategies of 481 small and medium enterprises (SMEs, their employee size is 5 or more and less than 300) in Busan, South Korea. The data is derived from the Technology Survey of Small and Medium Enterprises in 2001 and 2003. Three explanatory variables for the innovation strategies are the R&D portfolio, the organization (personnel) for R&D, and the strategic role of CEO for innovation. The technological levels of industries are controlled in the linear regression model. The dependent variable is the total private R&D investment of a firm in the given fiscal year. The empirical results indicate that the private R&D investment positively correlates with the complexity of the R&D portfolio, the formal organization for R&D team, and the increase of R&D personnel. The formal organization for R&D team and the number of R&D personnel are correlated with the increase of private R&D investment across the four groups in the manufacturing sector but not in the service sector. These findings suggest that the innovation policy needs to target firms who have complex R&D portfolios, the formal organization of R&D teams, and sufficient R&D personnel in order to increase the private R&D investment of SMEs in regions, with consideration of industrial characteristics.
This paper is to give Korean small and medium enterprises the direction for strengthening the competitiveness through looking the problems and improvements about the government policy that domestic small and medium enterprises is essential for the growth anc development. To derive these results, the theoretical background was established through considering the existing research literature. This paper has drawn the final policy alternatives through collecting field data and analysing the practical support after meeting with executives that are operating a small business related to research purposes. In this paper in order to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises of the government's support policy, it is critical for the financial support policy and the tax support policiest policy. The conclusions in this study are following. SMEs in Korean economic growth contribute greatly to advance industrial structure, regional balanced development, employment opportunities and to alleviate the concentration of economic power. However, there are these positive, and the negative such as the absence of entrepreneurial spirit and passive participation in society. Therefore, SMEs now should have your own a lot of effort to improve their competitiveness. In addition, government believe that SMEs directly impact on the national economy, especially the people, but they still need systematic and aggressive policy support in the future because of the lack of the result. Finally, if they try strategic approach for several issues and improvement of government's support policy that this study suggested for SMEs, the entrance toward developed countries can be through jumping of Korean economy.
This study examines the conditions and causes of income inequality and seeks assignments for mitigating income inequality. An analysis of the conditions and causes of income inequality is summarized as follows. First, income inequality, which rapidly increased after the economic crisis, increased and reduced repeatedly during 1999-2004, and remained a level in 2005 as high as that of the year directly after the economic crisis. Second, an analysis of the causes of income inequality by utilizing the long-term data(1985-2004) shows that unemployment rate, nonstandard employment rate, and the rising rate of land prices positively affect income inequality. Third, an analysis of the causes of income inequality by utilizing the data before and after the economic crisis(1995-2004) demonstrates that unemployment rate, nonstandard employment rate, and the workers' income ratio between large enterprises and small enterprises positively affect income inequality. Fourth, the rising rate of land prices which significantly affects income inequality in the data of 1985-2004 does not affect income equality in the data of 1995-2004, and the workers' income ratio between large enterprises and small enterprises which does not affect income inequality in the data of 1985-2004 significantly affect income equality in the data of 1995-2004. These results suggest several implications for mitigating income inequality. First, alternative plans to reduce unemployment rate must be prepared. Second, policies to reduce nonstandard employment rate should be established. Third, programs to stabilize or lower the land prices must be deliberated. Fourth, a master-plan to support small to medium enterprises must be carried out in order to reduce the wage differentials between large enterprises and small to medium enterprises.
Benchmarking is more than just a comparison of measures about different company's performance in a wider sense. It is a methodology of learning-comparing-learning, at least within small and medium sized enterprises. This learning is not just limited to learn by copying successful concepts from other enterprises or competitors. It starts in learning more about the own company, about its structure and processes causing its own success or its failure. This kind of learning is necessary before the enterprise starts watching for a suitable Benchmarking partner. Learning from each other's strengths and weaknesses is the main goal of the European research project Quality beyond Borders! By using the Benchmarking methodology, small and medium sized enterprises get the opportunity to take part in a Benchmarking study and can learn more about the different strengths and weaknesses of other enterprises on both sides of the border. The results of such a Benchmarking can help to identify potentials for future cooperations among German and Polish enterprises in the same market or business. These potentials can lie in different ways of realising the same success or top-position. The Benchmarking study is not focused on an special business or region. That helps to find out trends for different kinds of top-positions, which can be claimed in all markets within a country. Every trend is characterised by different success factors which are responsible for the success in this top-position. In a first overview, the results of the Benchmarking study show 5 different groups of top-positions within a market which all have different profiles regarding to the importance of their success factors. By the end of the Benchmarking study it will be possible, to give answer about the special reasons for different kind of successes of these groups. These answers can be related to a special region within a country, a special business or of course related to possible differences in the expression of the group success factors in comparison of both countries.
As the number of SSM(Super Supermarket) has been growing, the conflict between large companies and small-to-medium retailers is being deeper in which large-sized market has been growing rapidly and small to medium retailers has been depressed. To solve the conflict, the government enacted the system of business limiting of large enterprises by SMEs. It brought growth of sales of small-to-medium retailers. However, unintended effects were caused by the system. This research aims to analyze underlying structure beyond conflicts between SSM and small to medium retailers using system thinking and draw relationships between key factors. Thus we can provide political alternatives through simulation model which is developed based on the factors.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of quality management system requirements, a management innovation technique, on business performance to secure the competitiveness of SMEs in an environment of increasing uncertainty in the global economy and intensifying competition. To this end, a survey was conducted on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating a quality management system, and statistical analysis was performed through validity and reliability analysis, regression analysis, and group analysis using IBM SPSS 26.0. As a result of the study, it was found that planning, operation, support, and improvement, which are the core requirements of a quality management system, have a positive effect on business performance. In addition, through group analysis, it was found that the effect of quality management system requirements on business performance varies according to the level of the company. This means that the importance of quality management requirements required for strategy establishment varies according to the quality management introduction level of small and medium-sized manufacturers, and it can be used for small and medium-sized manufacturers to set strategic directions.

As the competitiveness of SMEs (small and medium enterprises) is getting more and more improved and globalized, the government provides various consulting services to secure the competitiveness of small and medium firms and support stable growth. However, the assessment of the result from the government's support is generally focused on non-financial factors, such as customer satisfaction and analysis of improvement effect. This paper is in regards to the statistical analysis of how much the government's support in the form of providing consulting services contributes to financial outcomes in terms of profitability and growth. ROA (return on asset) and ROS (return on sales), which are investment profitability and sales profitability respectively, are chosen as an indicator of profitability. For analysis of growth, sales revenue and total asset growth are used. The samples are 44 corporations which are supported by government, and 150 corporations which are selected for comparison, with corporate growth support center program by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy chosen as the consulting model. After gathering the yearly balance sheets and income statements of the samples from CRETOP, Korea Enterprise Data, the analysis is conducted in the way of identifying the statistical significance of financial difference in the same period between corporates taking consulting services and corporates which have not, and the difference of financial outcomes from the corporates taking consulting services before and after consulting services. As a result, in terms of business growth, it is turned out to have positive difference both in growth ratio and profitability compared to the compared corporations at the significant level. Therefore, it is obvious that the consulting program which government provides to SMEs have direct influence practically to the corporates' management performance.

With the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution, changes in the market environment and employment environment are accelerating due to smart technological innovation, and securing professional manpower and developing human resources for domestic small and medium-sized enterprises is becoming very important. Recently, most of the domestic small and medium-sized enterprises are experiencing hiring difficulties, and the development and training of human resources to overcome this is still lacking in systemization, despite much support from the government. This reflects the reality that it is not easy to invest training costs and time to adapt new employees to small and medium-sized businesses. Based on these problems, the work-study parallel project was introduced to cultivate practical talent in small and medium-sized businesses. Work-study parallel training is carried out in the form of mentoring between corporate field teachers and learning workers in actual workplaces, and even if the training is the same, there are differences depending on the learner's attitude, learning motivation, and training achievement. Ego state is a theory that can identify personality types and has the advantage of being able to understand and acknowledge oneself and others and intentionally improve positive factors to induce optimized interpersonal relationships. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to analyze the attitudes of learning workers, who are the actual subjects for improving the performance of work-study parallel projects and establishing a stable settlement within the company, based on their ego status. Through this study, we aim to understand the impact of the personality type of learning workers on training performance and to suggest ways to improve training performance through work-study parallelism.
The article presents the method that medium enterprises could manage technical information effectively. There are some merits in using the next generation Web brower, HyperWave as technical information management system. First, it makes anyone else to manage the technical information easily. Second, if he could manages the technical in-formation by using HyperWave, he can input, modify, and delete information effectively. Third, HyperWave system can creat the link to connect the related documents or images. Fourth, it provides various retrieval techniques.
