  • This paper summarizes the HVO concept and procedures, presents a summary of the research and results, and outlines areas where future HVO is required. This concept enables people to get their destinations through shortest paths with advanced air traffic control system and equipments. The concept's key feature is that pilots maintain their own separation from other aircraft using air-to-air datalink and on-board software which are needed for supporting flight information present on the high Way in the sky display and airborne internet. By assigning Self-Controlled Area which assume pilot have separation responsibility, controllers evaluated SATS HVO concept as a successful method on the view of reduced workload and increased traffic level on high volume operation.

  • Aviation safety requires systematic national attention and management because aircraft accident produce greater undesired social impact, economical damage, and declining national credibility compare to other transportation accident. Specially, Republic of Korea has highly increased risk of air accident as a major air transportation point having small aerospace, connecting pacific ocean and Asia, and explosively increased air traffic produced by economical growth, operating numerous military aircraft for the South and North Koreas' confrontational situation. Also, greatly increased domestic and oversea air travels by Koreans and foreigners as well as air freight based on heightened Korea's national power, launching new low cost carriers, and popularized leasure aviation have produced large amount of aviation needs in various fields. However, national aviation safety management system gratifying increased aviation needs and aircraft operations is seem to be slow in progress. This paper will show optimized measures utilizing private, governmental, and military resources to prevent aircraft accident under circumstances of limited budget and an favorable conditions, then will propose several action items.

  • With the rapid growth of technologies and demand of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPASs), integration of such systems into the existing airspace is becoming an issue in many countries. To assess the impact of integrated operations of manned and remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), it is necessary to perform Human-in-The-Loop (HiTL) simulations of likely situations with an integrated simulation system. This paper defines several operational concepts for the integrated simulation. Several probable scenarios were developed including a traffic pattern at a small airport and an altitude maneuver at a route crossing. HiTL simulations were performed according to the developed scenarios. The simulation results are analyzed focusing on the impacts of different communication, safety, performance, and human machine interface (HMI) characteristics of RPA.

  • A major advantage of the area in and around Braunschweig is its concentration of major research institutes and small to large enterprises dealing with different modes of transportation. For many years, aviation has been a particular focus. The research institutes have aircraft and helicopters equipped especially for research projects, as well as other laboratory equipment, allowing simulation and testing of air traffic application both virtually and on real aircraft. In addition, with the Luftfahrtbundesamt (equivalent organization to FAA) and the Bundesstelle $f{\"{u}}r$ Flugunfalluntersuchung (equivalent to NTSB) both located at the Research Airport, it enables direct contact with two key air-traffic safety authorities. The institutes of DLR and the Technical University of Braunschweig are very active in rail transportation applications. Cooperation with the market leader in rail automation - Siemens Rail Automation, also located in Braunschweig - and with other companies in the Braunschweig region means that safety-critical road applications and mobility research is available due to the activities of a number of institutes. Cooperation with Volkswagen (VW) and other companies in the region ensure access to the market leaders' know-how in this sector. Current European activities within framework of the Galileo project offer particularly good opportunities for the Research Airport to leverage its expertise and position itself internationally as a specialist in safety-critical transport applications - the centre is an initiative of Niedersachsen and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport Location and navigation plays a central role in all modes of transport - air, road and rail. The market is being revolutionized by the increasing integration of GNSS. The realization of the Galileo system will provide additional opportunities for the Research Airport: Galileo as a civil operated system offers service guarantees especially in the area of safety-critical applications in transportation. Notably standards, processes and authorizations related to the certification of safety-critical applications in the areas of air, road and rail transportation are still to be determined. GAUSS, located at the Research Airport Braunschweig, as an European centre of excellence for simulation, testing and certification of safety-critical applications can offer its expertise to validate the services guaranteed by the Galileo concessionaire.

  • Currently, in Korea, to obtain a jet type rating, you must receive training on a small business jet model. The reason is because of the law in the Aviation Safety Act Enforcement Rules 『Appendix 4』 that states, "You must receive at least 2 hours of flight training." In the end, it is acquiring type rating as a small business jet aircraft with relatively low operating costs. The qualifications acquired in this way are different from those for aircraft operated by airlines. However, if you have an initial jet type rating, you can acquire an airline aircraft qualification just by training on a simulator, so airlines want you to have at least a small-jet type rating. However, in the United States and Australia, there is a system in place to acquire initial jet type rating through simulator training without actual flight training.

  • UAM (Urban Air Mobility) is a new safe, secure, and more sustainable air transportation system for passengers and cargo in urban environments. Commercial operations of UAM are expected to start in 2025. Since production rates of UAM are expected to be closer to cars than conventional aircraft, the airworthiness methodology for UAM must be prepared for mass production. Composite materials are expected to be mainly used for UAM structures to reduce weight. In this paper, the composite material qualification method was derived and the materials were applied for small aircraft application. It is expected to reduce the airworthiness certification time by applying composite material qualification system and its database.

  • As a foundation of next-generation air transportation systems, automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) helps pilots and air traffic controllers create a safer and more efficient national airspace system. Owing to the open communication environment, it is easy to insert fake aircraft into the system via spoofing or the insertion of false messages. Efforts have thus been made in academic research and practice in the aviation industry to ensure the security of transmission of messages of the ADS-B system. An identity-based batch verification (IBV) scheme was recently proposed to enhance the security and efficiency of the ADS-B system, but current IBV schemes are often too resource intensive because of the application of complex hash-to-point operations or bilinear pairing operations. In this paper, we propose a lightweight IBV signature scheme for the ADS-B system that is robust against adaptive chosen message attacks in the random oracle model, and ensures the security of batch message verification and against the replaying attack. The proposed IBV scheme needs only a small and constant number of point multiplication and point addition computations instead of hash-to-point or pairing operations. Detailed performance analyses were conducted to show that the proposed IBV scheme has clear advantages over prevalent schemes in terms of computational cost and transmission overhead.

  • Information sharing and decision making between airport stakeholders became possible after the introduction of airport cooperative making system (A-CDM). This also resulted in optimizing aircraft handling time and increased the efficiency of aircraft operations. Technological advances have recently led to the development of urban air mobility (UAM) which is a small aircraft taking off and landing vertically. It is emerging as a new air transportation system in the future due to its advantage of saving time and solving congestion problem in the urban area. This study aims to suggest how vertiport cooperative decision making system (V-CDM) should be managed for efficient operation of UAM. By establishing procedure for decision making system based on Vertiport ecosystem of UAM. By establishing procedure for decision making system based on Vertiport ecosystem and UAM aircraft, unnecessary flight delays or cancellations can be minimized and efficiency of UAM operation will be improved as well.

  • Hazardous volcanic activity will continue to occur in the ring of fire, a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. and, because of rising populations, development pressures, and expanding national and international air traffic over volcanic regions, risks to life and property through exposure to volcano hazards continue to increase. During an eruption, volcanic contamination can reach and exceed the cruising altitudes of turbine-powered aircraft, among others, within minutes and spread over vast geographical areas within a few days. Volcanic ash can affect the operation of aircraft at aerodromes. Volcanic ash deposition at an aerodrome, even in very small amounts, can result in the closure of the aerodrome until all the deposited ash has been removed. In this study, air traffic information framework is presented along with algorithms to define affected routes, waypoints and airports using GIS geometry analysis.

  • Recently, Urban Aircraft Mobility (UAM) has been attracting attention as a transportation system of the future, and small drones also play a role in various industries. The failure of various types of aviation systems can lead to crashes, which can result in significant property damage or loss of life. In the defense industry, where aviation systems are widely used, the failure of aviation systems can lead to mission failure. Therefore, this study proposes an anomaly detection model using deep learning technology to detect anomalies in aviation systems to improve the reliability of development and production, and prevent accidents during operation. As training and evaluating data sets, current data from aviation systems in an extremely low-temperature environment was utilized, and a deep learning network was implemented using the convolutional neural network, which is a deep learning technique that is commonly used for image recognition. In an extremely low-temperature environment, various types of failure occurred in the system's internal sensors and components, and singular points in current data were observed. As a result of training and evaluating the model using current data in the case of system failure and normal, it was confirmed that the abnormality was detected with a recall of 98 % or more.
