  • RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is one of the most promising air interface technologies in the future for object identification using radio wave. If there are multiple tags within the range of the RFID tag reader, all tags send their tag identifications to the reader at the same time in response to the reader's query. This causes collisions on the reader and no tag is identified. A multi-tag identification problem is a core issue in the RFID. It can be solved by anti-collision algorithm such as slot based ALHOA algorithms and tree based algorithms. This paper, proposes a collision tree based anti-collision algorithm using collision tree in RFID system. It is a memory-less algorithm and is an efficient RFID anti-collision mechanism. The collision tree is a mechanism that can solve multi-tag identification problem. It is created in the process of querying and responding between the reader and tags. If the reader broadcasts K bits of prefix to multiple tags, all tags with the identifications matching the prefix transmit the reader the identifications consisted of k+1 bit to last. According to the simulation result, a proposed collision tree based anti-collision algorithm shows a better performance compared to tree working algorithm and query tree algorithm.

  • This study sought to compare the amounts of posterior anchorage loss during the en masse retraction of the upper anterior teeth between orthodontic mini-implant (OMI) and conventional anchorage reinforcement (CAR) such as headgear and/or transpalatal arch. The subjects were 52 adult female patients treated with sliding mechanics (MBT brackets, .022" slot, .019X.025" stainless steel wire, 3M-Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA). They were allocated into Group 1 (N=24, Class I malocclusion (CI), upper and lower first premolar (UP1LP1) extraction, and CAR), Group 2 (N=15, Cl, UP1LP1 extraction and OMI), and Group 3 (N=13, Class II division 1 malocclusion, upper first and lower second premolar extraction, and OMI). Lateral cephalograms were taken before (T0) and after treatment (T1). A total of 11 anchorage variables were measured. Analysis of variance was used for statistical analysis. There was no significant difference in treatment duration and anchorage variables at T0 among the three groups. Groups 2 and 3 showed significantly larger retraction of the upper incisor edge (U1E-sag, 9.3mm:7.3mm, P<.05) and less posterior anchorage loss (U6M-sag, 0.7~0.9mm:2mm, P<.05; U6A-sag, 0.5mm:2mm, P<.01) than Group 1. The ratio of retraction amount of the upper incisor edge per 1 of anchorage loss in the upper molar made for the significant difference between Groups 1 and 2 (4.6mm:7.0mm, P<.05). Group 3 showed a relatively distal inclination of the upper molar (P<.05) and the intrusion of the upper incisor and first molar (U1E-ver, P<.05; U6F-ver, P<.05) compared to Groups 1 and 2. Although OMI could not shorten the treatment duration, it could provide better maximum posterior anchorage than CAR.

  • This study was conducted to develop a large-scale rice polisher with double polishing stages for producing clean rice with high quality in rice processing complexs. The performance of the developed rice polisher was evaluated and improved. The results obtained from this study were as followings : 1. A large-scale rice polisher with double polishing stages was developed, which consisted of two polishing chambers(polishing part I and II), two spraying parts, a feeding part, power of 37kW, control panel, etc. Especially, the purpose of polishing part Iwere to uniformly mix white rice sprayed with water and to remove bran particles from the rice. the roller surface of the polishing part I was coated with chromium. 2. The capacity of the developed rice polisher was 4t/h. The broken rice rate of the polisher was less than 0.2%, compared with about 1% of others. 3. The whiteness increment of the developed polisher was 2.6~3.0% compared with about 2.3~2.5% of others. 4. The energy consumption of the developed polisher was 0.5kWh/100kg. 5. The developed polisher was improved with the angle change of screen slot of the polishing chamber I. The broken rice rate was reduced from about 0.5% to about 0.2% as the max. internal pressure of the polishing chamber II decreased by 0.4kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ due to the increase of resistance in the polishing chamber I. The whiteness of the polisher showed more than 38~39. 6. The developed rice polisher showed high performance, compared with other domestic and foreign polishers.

  • Leuconostoc mesenteroides SY1, a strain isolated from cabbage Kimchi, was transformed with pCW4, a shuttle vector based on a cryptic plasmid from Lactobacillus paraplantarum C7. $\alpha-Amylase$ gene, amyL, from Bacillus licheniformis was cloned into pCW4, resulting in $pCW4T{\alpha},\;and\;pCW4T{\alpha}$ was introduced into SY1 by electroporation. Transformation efficiency was $10^2cells/{\mu}g$ plasmid DNA. L. mesenteroides cells harboring $pCW4T{\alpha}$ did not show amylase activity, although amyL transcript was synthesized as determined by slot blot experiment. $pCW4T{\alpha}$ was stably maintained in SY1 in the presence of erythromycin (Em, $5\;{\mu}g/ml$) but rapidly lost when Em was omitted. Less than $1\%$ of the cells maintained $pCW4T{\alpha}$ after 5 days at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents a new CLSP/CC (Channel Load Sensing Protocol/Channel Clearance) in order to obtain better performance in spread slotted ALOHA networks. This proposed protocol can decrease a wasteful using of channel by prohibiting continuous transmissionof packets destroyed in previous slot, with little added system complexities. The performances of the proposed CLSP/CC, which include network throughput, average processing tiem and the number of mobile stations in retranmission state, are obtained and compared with those of existing CLSP by simulations in this paepr. As the resutls of simulations, the proposed CLSP/CC gets higher throughput and less average processing time, especially in the highly offered load. And CLSP/CC can obtain maximum network throughput at larger offered load than existing CLSP, so it enable to accommodate more mobile station or highly offered loads in slotted spread ALOHA networks.

  • In this paper we introduce the correlation-aided distributed sample acquisition (CDSA) scheme for fast cell search in IMT-2000 W-CDMA cellular system. The proposed scheme incorporates the state symbol correlation process into the comparison-correction based synchronization process of the original DSA scheme to enable fast acquisition even under very poor channel environment. for its realization, each mobile station (MS) has to store in its memory a set of state sample sequences. which are determined by the long-period scrambling sequences used in the system and the sampling interval of the state samples. CDSA based cell search is carried out in two stages : First, the MS first acquires the slot timing by using the primary synch code (PSC) and then identifies the igniter code which conveys the state samples of the current cell . Secondly. the MS identifies the scrambling code and frame timing by taking the comparison-correction based synchronization approach and, if the identification is not done satisfactorily within preset time. it initiates the state symbol correlation process which correlates the received symbol sequence with the pre-stored state sample sequences for a successful identification. As the state symbol SNR is relatively high. the state symbol correlation process enables reliable synchronization even in very low chip-SNR environment. Simulation results show that the proposed CDSA scheme outperforms the 3GPP 3-step approach, requiring the signal power of about 7 dB less for achieving the same acquisition time performance in low-SNR environments. Furthermore, it turns out very robust in the typical synchronization environment where large frequency offset exists.

  • In this paper, transition constrained Hidden Markov Model(HMM) in which the transition between states occur only within prescribed time slot is proposed and the performance is evaluated in the noisy environment. The transition constrained HMM can explicitly limit the state durations and accurately de scribe the temporal structure of speech signal simply and efficiently. The transition constrained HMM is not only superior to the conventional HMM but also require much less computation time. In order to evaluate the performance of the transition constrained HMM, speaker independent isolated word recognition experiments were conducted using semi-continuous HMM with the noisy speech for 20, 10, 0 dB SNR. Experiment results show that the proposed method is robust to the environmental noise. The 81.08% and 75.36% word recognition rates for conventional HMM was increased by 7.31% and 10.35%, respectively, by using transition constrained HMM when two kinds of noises are added with 10dB SNR.

  • We design, fabricate, and measure a MIMO antenna system mountable on a small PCB (such as UMPC). The proposed antenna system accommodates three radiation elements on the PCB area of $40mm\;{\times}\;100mm$. Two of them employ a slot type and one uses a modified monopole with an inverted L shape expecting high isolation and polarization purity. The bandwidth of each proposed MIMO antenna ranges from 80MHz and 200MHz at the center frequency of 1.8 GHz. The isolations between ports have been found to be greater than 10dB over the interested frequency band. Besides, the proposed MIMO system has been evaluated in terms of ARC(Active Reflection Coefficient, TARC(Total ARC), correlation, MEG, and etc. The envelope correlation is calculated to be much less than 0.04 and the ratio of the mean effective gain(MEG) between the antennas is found to be close to unity.

  • The thermal response characteristics of nozzle liner for a solid rocket motor applying highly aluminized PCP or HTPB propellant with slotted tube grain have been investigated. The SEM photographs of aluminum oxide particles taken from nozzle liner show that the PCP propellant with the finer and less contents of oxidizer can offer greater possibility for increasing aluminum agglomeration than the HTPB propellant. The PCP propellant shows locally greater mechanical erosion at 4 circumferential areas of the nozzle entrance in line with grain slot due to the impingement of large particles, but the HTPB propellant shows greater thermochemical ablation at the nozzle blast tube, the throat insert and the exit cone because of relatively much more mole fraction of $H_2O\;and\;CO_2$ in combustion gases.

  • To enable remodeling of the exterior of buildings more convenient, such finishing materials as curtain walls, metal panels, concrete panels or dry stones need to be easily detached. In this respect, this study proposed a new design of the slab for the purposes. In the new design, the sides of the slab were properly modified, and the capabilities of anchors fixed in the modified slab were experimentally tested. In details, a number of concrete specimens with different sizes and compressive strengths were prepared, and the effect of anchors with different diameters and embedment depths applied in the concrete specimens were tested. The test results of the maximum capacities of the anchors were compared with the number of current design codes and the stress distribution was identified. This study found that the embedment depth specified in the current design code (ACI318-08) should be revised to be more than 1.5 times the edge distance. However, with the steel sheet reinforcement, the experiment acquired higher tensile strength than the design code proposed. In addition, for two types of specimens in the tensile strength experiment, the current design code (ACI 318-08) is overestimated for the anchor depth of 75 mm. This study demonstrated that the ideal breakout failure was attainable for the side slot details of a slab with more than 180 mm of a slab thickness and less than 75 mm of an anchor embedment depth. It is expected that these details of the modified slab can be specified in the upgraded construction design codes.
