RIO(RED with IN and OUT), TSW

This paper employs computational tools to predict power increase (or speed loss) and propulsion performances in waves of KVLCC2. Two-phase unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved using finite volume method; and a realizable k-ε model has been applied for the turbulent closure. The free-surface is obtained by solving a VOF equation. Sliding mesh method is applied to simulate the flow around an operating propeller. Towing and self-propulsion computations in calm water are carried out to obtain the towing force, propeller rotating speed, thrust and torque at the self-propulsion point. Towing computations in waves are performed to obtain the added resistance. The regular short head waves of λ/LPP = 0.6 with 4 wave steepness of H/λ = 0.007, 0.017, 0.023 and 0.033 are taken into account. Four methods to predict speed-power relationship in waves are discussed; Taylor expansion, direct powering, load variation, resistance and thrust identity methods. In the load variation method, the revised ITTC-78 method based on the 'thrust identity' is utilized to predict propulsive performances in full scale. The propulsion performances in waves including propeller rotating speed, thrust, torque, thrust deduction and wake fraction, propeller advance coefficient, hull, propeller open water, relative rotative and propulsive efficiencies, and delivered power are investigated.
This paper describes architectures and design of a SIMD type parallel image processing chip called SliM-II. The chiphas a linear array of 64 processing elements (PEs), operates at 30 MHz in the worst case simulation and gives at least 1.92 GIPS. In contrast to existing array processors, such as IMAP, MGAP-2, VIP, etc., each PE has a multiplier that is quite effective for convolution, template matching, etc. The instruction set can execute an ALU operation, data I/O, and inter-PE communication simulataneously in a single instruction cycle. In addition, during the ALU/multiplier operation, SliM-II provides parallel move between the register file and on-chip memory as in DSP chips, SliM-II can greatly reduce the inter-PE communication overhead, due to the idea a sliding, which is a technique of overlapping inter-PE communication with computation. Moreover, the bandwidth of data I/O and inter-PE communication increases due to bit-parallel data paths. We used the COMPASS$^{TM}$ 3.3 V 0.6.$\mu$m standrd cell library (v8r4.10). The total number of transistors is about 1.5 muillions, the core size is 13.2 * 13.0 mm$^{2}$ and the package type is 208 pin PQ2 (Power Quad 2). The performance evaluation shows that, compared to a existing array processors, a proposed architeture gives a significant improvement for algorithms requiring multiplications.s.
Twisted rudder, twisted rudder with bulb, and twisted rudder with bulb and fin have been developed computationally for 3,000 TEU container ship through parametric study. The objective function is to minimize delivered power in model scale. Design variables are twisted angle, rudder bulb diameter and fin angle. The governing equation is Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations in an unsteady turbulent flow and the Reynolds stress model applied for the turbulent closure. A double body model is used for the treatment of free-surface. The calculation was carried out in towing and self-propulsion conditions at design speed. The sliding mesh technique was employed to simulate the flow around the propeller. Form factor is obtained from the towing computation. Self-propulsion point is obtained from the self-propelled computations at two propeller rotating speeds. The delivered power due to the designed twisted rudder, twisted rudder with bulb, and twisted rudder with bulb and fin are reduced by 1.1%, 1.6%, and 2.0%, respectively.
This paper addresses the adaptive controller for efficiency optimization of induction motors. The paper describes an adaptive controller based on-line efficiency optimization control of a drive that uses a direct vector controlled induction motors. To improve the efficiency of the induction motors, it is important to find the optimal flux reference that minimize power loss. The proposed optimal flux reference is derived using a power loss function that is constructed with stator resistance losses, rotor resistance losses and core losses. The proposed sliding mode flux observer generates estimates the unmeasured rotor fluxes. An optimal efficiency controller has goal of maximizing the efficiency for a given speed and load torque. A simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
Gerotor hydraulic motor is widely used in hydraulic systems due to its low speed, high torque output and compactness in rotational direct driving of a heavy weight. Gerotor is a Planar mechanism consisted of a pair of rotor and circular teeth of stator assembly which forms a closed space, so called a chamber. The motion of rotor relative to the circular tooth is produced by the pressure difference of hydraulic operating fluid between the adjacent chamber. As all active contact points of rotor and circular teeth are subjected to very high sliding friction, a reduction in the performance of the gerotor hydraulic motor can not be avoided. Therefore, the core design parameters of gerotor profile used in hydraulic motors is to minimize a friction force by high contact stresses. The analytical design method of gerotor profile, based on envelope of a family of curves, is proposed. In this study, the influence of the tip clearances on three critical contact points between rotor and circular teeth of stator assembly has been explored by experimental data in this paper. At the same time a improvement method to reduce the friction force is proposed and the tip clearances on three critical points for getting an optimum gerotor profile are also analyzed.
