The study was performed to optimize the processing conditions (alkali concentration, extraction time, and temperature) for rockfish skin gelatin based on yield using response surface methodology and comparison of the physicochemical properties with those of rockfish skin gelatin pretreated and extracted under ordinary conditions (alkali treatment concentration: 1.0 M; extraction time: 2 hr; extraction temperature: $60^{\circ}C$). Predicted maximum gelatin yield of 19.1% and gelatin content of 87.8% were obtained by extraction at $106.6^{\circ}C$ for 69.0 min after pretreatment with 1.1 M calcium hydroxide. Yield of gelatin extracted under high temperature/high pressure (G-HT/HP) was 54% higher than that extracted under ordinary temperature/time (G-OT/T). However, G-HT/HP was inferior in gel strength and gelling point to (G-OT/T), but comparable in transmission. Based on the physicochemical properties, G-HT/HP was unsuitable for use in products requiring higher physical properties, but could be useful for health-functional foods.
Danored is considered as the most favorable grape variety for national wine manufacturing in terms of sugar, organic acid contents, annual production amount, as well as quality control convenience after harvest. This study was canied out to know the influence of suspended solid(SS) and skin contact time(SCT) with Danored variety on the white wine quality. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Suspended solid and skin contact time did not greatly influence on the chemical composition of Danored juice. But skin contact time provided slightly increaseness to the content of phenol compounds 2. Suspended solid accelerated fermentation rate of white wine manufacturing. Although the content of suspended solid are less amount than 0.3% in must, wine fermentation was completed to dryness in concentration of sugar. 3. When the content of suspended solid was around 3%, higher alcohol in white wine was increased by the 20%. This result is relatively small increasement compared to the other reported results. 4. Because Danored contained less amount of phenol compounds comparison with other grape varieties, browning capacity in white wine was much favorable to quite low concentration. Especially, phenolic compounds was decreased remarkably as one of fermentation characteristics of Danored variety. 5. As a result of sensory evaluation, wine quality was A-1> B-1> A-2> B-2 in its favorable ranking orders. It was so concluded that A-1 might be the most acceptable one from this study.
To enhance the in vitro permeation of lovastatin through excised hairless mouse and human cadaver skins, solubility was determined in various hydrophilic and lipophilic vehicles, and the effects of vehicles and penetration enhancers on the skin permeation from solution formulations were investigated. Solubility of lovastatin was highest in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) ($278.2{\pm}10.1$ mg/ml) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ($162.2{\pm}9.7$ mg/ml). Among different pure vehicles used, NMP, DMSO, propylene glycol and isopropyl myristate provided some drug permeation ($6.9{\pm}1.1$, $5.9{\pm}1.6$, $3.0{\pm}0.5$ and $2.2{\pm}0.3{\mu}g/cm^2$ at 24 hr, respectively) through hairless mouse skin. The addition of oleic acid, linoleic acid and oleyl alcohol to DMSO showed the maximum permeation at around 5 v/v%, however, capric acid and caprylic acid had no enhancing effect. The increase of enhancer concentrations showed bell-shaped permeation rate, suggesting the presence of optimal concentration in lovastatin penetration. Increasing donor concentration from 10 mg/ml to 80 mg/ml in DMSO and a cosolvent of DMSO, NMP and DGME (3 : 3 : 4 v/v) did not show significant dose dependent permeation in both hairless mouse and human cadaver skins. The maximum lovastatin flux through human cadaver skin was found to be $0.87{\pm}0.46{\mu}g/cm^2$/hr with 5 v/v% linoleic acid and donor dose of 4 mg/0.64 $cm^2$ in the cosolvent. These results suggest that transdermal delivery of lovastatin would be feasible by establishing the optimal concentrations of donor dose and unsaturated fatty acids in appropriate vehicles.
The currents in the rails of an electromagnetic railgun are concentrated in a near surface region. In order to understand this phenomenon, this paper deals with computation of the current distribution related to skin effect in a railgun. An analytical solution is obtained for a twodimensional model. It is found that current concentration at the interface between the rails and the armature is affected by the velocity, length and conductivity of the armature, that skin effect in the rails is affected by the relative velocity between the rails and the armature rather than other factors, and that skin depth in the rails is inversely proportional nearly to the square root of the velocity.
This research was carried out to find the mordant effect of Chestnut's inner skin on the cow leather dyed by Turmeric powder. The best proper mordanting conditions were examined by changing mordant method, concentration, temperature, bath ratio, time, and repetition. Also dyeability and surface color changes were evaluated by various mordanting methods. The optimum mordanting conditions of chestnut's inner skin extract on the cow leather were pre mordant, 80%, $50^{\circ}C$, 50:1, 40minutes, 4 repetition. The K/S values as a mordant were higher in pre mordant than post mordanting condition. Although the ${\Delta}E$ was slightly higher in post mordant than pre mordant, it was too small to find any means. The surface colors of all dyed cow leathers were yellow. Among light, dry cleaning, and abrasion fastnesses, only light fastness was increased one degree, others were same degrees.
Clonidine, an antihypertensive drug, stimulates postsynaptic $\alpha_2$adrenergic receptors in the CNS and lowers arterial pressure by erects on both cardiac output and peripheral resistance. However, many patients experience that sedation and xerostomia occured upon oral administration of clonidine. These side effects are due to high plasma peak concentration and can be avoided when clonidine is given transdermally. In this study, we performed the skin irritation test for transdermal administration of clonidine patch on New Zealand white rabbits. Twelve New Zealand white rabbits were divided into two groups according to the dose levels, respectively. After transdermal administration of clonidine patch with two doses, clinical manifestations, body weight loss and postmortem findings were observed. We could not find any significant evidence of skin irritation by transdermal administration of clonidine patch.

For the purpose to treatment of skin disease genipoiside and hydrolyzed product of Gardeniae Fructus were studied on skin permeation and crosslinking of a biologied tissue. Geniposide was hydrolyzed to genipin by ${\beta}$-glucosidase and the rate of hydrolysis was rapid on the condition of high temperature of medium and high concentration of ${\beta}$-glucosidase. The permeation enhancing effects of geniposide and genipin under cream and gel preparations were tested using Franz type diffusion cell and the skin of hairless mouse. (omitted)
It is demonstrated that phenolic compound has cytotoxic effect on cancer cells. Recently, ferulic acid is involved in anticancer activity by showing the decrease of cell viability in cancer cells. But, the anticancer mechanism of ferulic acid is left unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine the anticancer activity of ferulic acid on NIH3T3 fibroblasts and human skin melanoma cells (SK-MEL-3). The anticancer activity was measured by determining the cytotoxicy of ferulic acid on these cells. The cytotoxicity was measured by cell viability via XTT assay in these cells. In this study, ferulic acid decreased cell viability according to the dose-dependent manners after human skin melanoma cells were treated with various concentrations of ferulic acid for 48 hours. especially, ferulic acid remarkably decreased cell viability at a concentration of $120{\mu}M$ compared with control in human skin melanoma cells. While, ferulic acid did not show the significant decrease of cell viability at concentrations of $30{\sim}120{\mu}M$ in NIH3T3 fibroblasts. These results suggest that ferulic acid showed anticancer activity in cancer cells such as human skin melanoma cells by the decrease of cell viability significantly.
Ginsenosides are bioactive components of Panax ginseng with many functions such as anti-aging, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, anti-fatigue, and anti-tumor. Ginsenosides are categorized into dammarane, oleanene, and ocotillol type tricyclic triterpenoids based on the aglycon structure. Based on the sugar moiety linked to C-3, C-20, and C-6, C-20, dammarane type was divided into protopanaxadiol (PPD) and protopanaxatriol (PPT). The effects of ginsenosides on skin disorders are noteworthy. They play antiaging roles by enhancing immune function, resisting melanin formation, inhibiting oxidation, and elevating the concentration of collagen and hyaluronic acid. Thus, ginsenosides have previously been widely used to resist skin diseases and aging. This review details the role of ginsenosides in the anti-skin aging process from mechanisms and experimental research.
