액상소결법에 의한 탄화규소 제조시 소결조제와 온도의 영향 (Influence of Sintering Additives and Temperature on Fabrication of LPS-SiC)

  • SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy system and advanced gas turbine because it has excellent high temperature strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good resistance to oxidation and good thermal and chemical stability etc. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as low fracture toughness and low strain-to fracture still impose a severe limitation on practical applications of SiC materials. For these reasons, SiC/SiC composites can be considered as a promising for various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness compared with monolithic SiC ceramics. But, high temperature and pressure lead to the degradation of the reinforcing jiber during the hot pressing. Therefore, reduction of sintering temperature and pressure is key requirements for the fabrication of SiC/SiC composites by hot pressing method. In the present work, monolithic Liquid Phase Sintered SiC (LPS-SiC) was fabricated by hot pressing method in Ar atmosphere at $1800^{\circ}C$ under 20MPa using $Al_2O_3,\;Y_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$ as sintering additives in order to low sintering temperature and sintering pressure. The starting powder was high purity $\beta-SiC$ nano-powder with all average particle size of 30mm. The characterization of LPS-SiC was investigated by means of SEM and three point bending test. Base on the composition of sintering additives-, microstructure- and mechanical property correlation, tire compositions of sintering additives are discussed.

Sintering Effect on Clamping Characteristics and Pulse Aging Behavior of ESD-Sensitive V2O5/Mn3O4/Nb2O5 Codoped Zinc Oxide Varistors

  • V2O5/Mn3O4/Nb2O5 codoped zinc oxide varistor ceramics were sintered at a temperature range as low as 875~950℃. The voltage clamping characteristics of V2O5/Mn3O4/Nb2O5 codoped zinc oxide varistor ceramics were investigated at a pulse current range of 1~50 A. The sintering temperature had a significant effect on clamp voltage ratio, which exhibits surge protection capabilities. The varistor ceramics sintered at 875℃ exhibited the best clamping characteristics, in which the clamp voltage ratio was 2.69 at a pulse current of 50 A. The varistor ceramics sintered at 900℃ exhibited the highest electrical stability, where = 3,824 V/cm (initial 3,909 V/cm), and E1 mA/cm2 = 27 (initial 39) after application of a pulse current of 100 A.

소성온도에 따른 제지공정 슬러지의 중금속 용출특성 연구 (Heavy Metal Leaching Characteristics of Sludge from Paper Mill Process with Sintering Temperature)

  • This research was performed to evaluate heavy metal leaching characteristics of the sludge from paper mill process with sintering temperature. Heavy metal leaching of the sludge was characterized with Korean Leaching Test and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure. The test sludge was composed of 70.72% of moisture, 9.5% of volatile solids and 9.76% of fixed solids. As a result of XRF analysis, Fe was the highest inorganic element in approximately 83%, which implies the recycling possibility of the sludge in reuse of Fenton chemicals and artificial lightweight aggregate. Leaching of heavy metals from sintered sludge was lower than the dry ones. However, there was no significant difference in leaching characteristics between the sludges sintered at $350^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$. Zn and Fe were leached more greatly in TCLP and KLT methods respectively.

산화된 탄화규소재료의 기계적 특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Mechanical Properties of Oxygenated SiC Material)

  • Silicon carbide materials undergo an oxidation reaction in a high-temperature oxidizing environment and show different characteristics depending on the test temperature and time. In particular, the added oxides form a secondary phase within the sintering process and exhibit different oxidation characteristics depending on the added sintering materials. Therefore, to evaluate the oxidation characteristics, the weight of the test piece and the thickness of the oxidation layer were observed, and the structure and oxidation characteristics of the material were analyzed using SEM. SEM observation showed that an oxide layer was formed on the surface of the liquid sintered silicon carbide material after it was oxidized at 1200 ℃, 1300 ℃, and 1400 ℃ for 10 hours, respectively. Then, a bending test was performed at each temperature on the test piece with the oxidation layer formed to evaluate the change in flexural strength. The strength was 466.6 MPa at 1200 ℃, 363.1 MPa at 1300 ℃, and 350.8 MPa at 1400 ℃. Al2O3-SiO2 oxidized at 1200 ℃ for 10 hours showed an increase in strength of about 21.0 MPa compared to the data before the oxidation test.

  • In this study, in order to develop multilayer ceramics vibrator for ultrasonic nozzle, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_{2}CO_{3}-Na_{2}_CO_{3}$ as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the amount of PbO. With increasing PbO contents, secondary phases were increased and phase structure was changed from tetragonal structure to rhombohedral structure and also electromechanical coupling factor was linearly decreased. At the composition ceramics with the sintering temperature of $870^{\circ}C$ and 1 mol% excess PbO, density, electromechanical coupling factor, dielectric constant, piezoelectric d constant and mechanical quality factor showed the optimum value of $7.879\;g/cm^{3}$, 0.55, 1149, 328 pC/N, 1224, respectively for multilayer ceramics vibrator application for ultrasonic nozzle.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator, $0.07Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-xPb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(0.93-x)Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ ceramics system were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3-Bi_2O_3-CuO$ sintering aids and the specimens were sintered at $930^{\circ}C$. Thereafter, their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the amount of PNN substitution. At 9 mol% PNN substitution, density, electromechanical coupling factor ($k_p$), dielectric constant, mechanical quality factor ($Q_m$) and piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) showed the optimum value of $7.86g/cm^3$, 0.60, 1640, 1323 and 387 pC/N, respectively. It is considered that these values are suitable for piezoelectric divece application such ad multilayer piezoelectric actuator and ultrasonic vibrator with pure Ag internal electrode.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramics for ultrasonic vibrator application, PNW-PMN-PZT system ceramics were manufactured according to the amount of CaCO$_3$ addition, and their piezoelectric, dielectric and microstructural characteristics were investigated. The ceramic specimens could be sintered at sintering temperature below 1000 $^{\circ}C$ due to the effect of Li$_2$CO$_3$-CaCO$_3$ liquid phase produced by the reaction of Li$_2$CO$_3$ and CaCO$_3$. At 0.2 wt% Li$_2$CO$_3$ and 0.25 wt% CaCO$_3$ added specimen sintered at 920 $^{\circ}C$, the density, electromechanical coupling factor(k$_{p}$), mechanical quality factor(Q$_{m}$) and dielectric constant showed the optimal value of 7.78 g/㎤, 0.49, 1396, and 1300, respectively, for ultrasonic vibrator application.ion.

  • The MgO-{{{{ { {Al }_{2 }O }_{3 } }}-{{{{ { {SiO }_{2 } }_{ } }}system containing alumina powder was fabricated sintered at various temperature and analyzed in order to study the sintering mechanism and crystallization characteristics. The specimen composed of glass powder with average particle size of 8.27 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 0-40 vol% alumina powder were sint-ered for 3 hrs at the temperature between 850$^{\circ}C$ and 1350$^{\circ}C$ The sintering mechanism consists of the redis-tribution of particles occuring at 750$^{\circ}C$ and the viscous flow at 850∼950$^{\circ}C$. The degree of crystallization and sintering temperatue were dependent upon the ratio of glass/alumina. The second phase from the reaction between glass and alumina was not observed which was confirmed by XRD and properties analysis. The density dielectric constant and specific resistivity of specimen were 2.30∼3.26g/cm2 5.8∼7.38 at 1 GHz density dielectric constant and specific resistivity of specimen were 2.30∼3.26g/cm3 5.8∼7.38 at 1GHz and 1.23∼4.70${\times}$107 $\Omega$$.$m respectively.

Bi계 ZnO 칩 바리스터의 저온소결과 전기적 특성 (Low Temperature Sintering and Electrical Properties of Bi-based ZnO Chip Varistor)

  • The sintering, defect and grain boundary characteristics of Bi-based ZnO chip varistor (1,608 mm size) have been investigated to know the possibility of lowering a manufacturing price by using 100 % Ag inner-electrode. The samples were prepared by general multilayer chip varistor process and characterized by shrinkage, SEM, current-voltage (I-V), admittance spectroscopy (AS), impedance and modulus spectroscopy (IS & MS) measurement. There are no problems to make a chip varistor with 100% Ag inner-electrode in the sintering temperature range of 850~900$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in air. A good varistor characteristics ($V_n$= 9.3~15.4 V, a= 23~24, $I_L$= 1.0~1.6 ${\mu}A$) were revealed but formed $Zn_i^{{\cdot}{\cdot}}$(0.209 eV) as dominant defect, and increased the distributional inhomogeneity and the temperature instability in grain boundary barriers.

  • In this study, in odor to develop low temperature sintering multilayer piezoelectric actuator and ultrasonic vibrator, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3$ and $Na_2CO_3$ as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the addition of dopant CuO and $Fe_2O_3$, respectively. The CuO added PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics improved mechanical quality factor Qm due to the acceptor doping effect. And also, $Fe_2O_3$ reacted as softner in this composition system in addition to the increase of grain size and sinterability. Taking into consideration electromechanical coupling factor kp of 0.62, dielectric constant $\varepsilon_r$, of 1275, Piezoelectric $d_{33}$ constant of 377[pC/N] and mechanical quality factor Qm of 975, it was concluded that the ceramics with the $Fe_2O_3$, added composition sintered at 900[$^{\circ}C$] were best for the multilayer piezoelectric actuator and ultrasonic vibrator application.
