STOCHASTIC SINGLE MACHINE SCHEDULING WITH WEIGHTED QUADRATIC EARLY-TARDY PENALTIES

  • The problem of scheduling n jobs on a single machine is considered when the machine is subject to stochastic breakdowns. The objective is to minimize the weighted squared deviation of job completion times from a common due date. Two versions of the problem are addressed. In the first one the common due date is a given constant, whereas in the second one the common due date is a decision variable. In each case, a general form of deterministic equivalent of the stochastic scheduling problem is obtained when the counting process N(t) related to the machine uptimes is a Poisson process. It is proved that an optimal schedule must be V-shaped in terms of weighted processing time when the agreeable weight condition is satisfied. Based on the V-shape property, two dynamic programming algorithms are proposed to solve both versions of the problem.

  • This paper considers a single-machine scheduling problem with availability constraints. In many realistic situations, machines may not be always available due to various reasons such as maintenance, breakdown and repair. However, most literature on scheduling assume that the machines are available at all times. This paper deals with a single-machine scheduling problem with periodic maintenance. If the maintenance decision is made jointly with the job scheduling, the system will be more effective. The objective is to minimize the total completion time of jobs. This problem is proved to be NP-hard in the strong sense. The proposed breaking heuristic(BH) algorithm rule is established by some theorems and conditions. Our computational results show that the BH algorithm is much more efficient than existing heuristic.

  • In this paper, we deal with a single machine scheduling problems integrating with step deterioration effect and a rate-modifying activity (RMA). The scheduling problem assumes that the machine may have a single RMA and each job has the processing time of a job with deterioration is a step function of the gap between recent RMA and starting time of the job and a deteriorating date that is individual to all jobs. Based on the two scheduling phenomena, we simultaneously determine the schedule of step deteriorating jobs and the position of the RMA to minimize the makespan. To solve the problem, we propose a hybrid typed genetic algorithm compared with conventional GAs.

  • This paper considers single machine scheduling problems with group technology (GT) and deteriorating jobs. A sequence independent setup is required to process a job from a different group and jobs in each group are processed together. We consider the case of jobs whose processing times are a decreasing function of their starting time. The objectives of scheduling problems are to minimize the makespan and the total completion time, respectively. We also provide polynomial time algorithms to solve these problems.

  • This paper is concerned with software developments for scheduling and sequencing of FMS. The scheduling algorithms are developed for 3 types of FMS:single machine type FMS, flowshop type FMS. assembly line type FMS. For the single machine type FMS. full enumeration algorithm is used. For the flowshop type FMS heuristic algorithms are developed. For the assembly type FMS the exsisting PERT/CPM algorithm is applied. Numerical examples are presented for illustration of each algorithm. Each soft ware program list are attached as appendices.

  • This paper considers single machine scheduling problems where the processing time of a job increases as a function of its position in the sequence. In this model, the later a given job is scheduled in the sequence, the longer its processing time. It is shown that the optimal schedule may be very different from that of the classical version of the problem. We introduce polynomial solutions for the makespan minimization problem, the sum of completion times minimization problem and the sum of earliness penalties minimization problem. For two resource constrained problems, based on the analysis of the problems, the optimal resource allocation methods are presented, respectively.

  • In this paper, we study a single-machine scheduling problem with deteriorating processing time of jobs and multiple rate-modifying activities which reset deteriorated processing time to the original processing time. In this situation, the objective function is to minimize total completion time. First, we formulate an integer programming model. Since the model is difficult to solve as the size of real problem being very large, we design an improved genetic algorithm called adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) with spontaneously adjusting crossover and mutation rate depending upon the status of current population. Finally, we conduct some computational experiments to evaluate the performance of AGA with the conventional GAs with various combinations of crossover and mutation rates.

  • This study presents an single machine scheduling algorithm minimize lateness of product by controlling machining speed. Generally, production scheduling uses the information of process planning. But the production scheduling algorithm has not considered the control of machining speed in its procedures. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to consider the machining speed in production scheduling algorithm for efficient production scheduling. Machining time and machining cost required to manufacture a piece of a product are expressed as a unimodal convex function with respect to machining speed, so it has minimal point at minimum time speed or the minimum cost speed. Therefore, because of considering the machining cost, the control of machining speed for the algorithm is executed between minimum speed and maximum speed. An example is demonstrated to explain the algorithm.

  • This paper presents a Tabu Search method to minimize a number of tardy jobs in the nonidentical parallel machine scheduling. The Tabu Search method employs a restricted neighborhood for the reduction of computation time. In this paper, we use two different types of method for a single machine scheduling. One is Moore's algorithm and the other is insertion method. We discuss computational experiments on more than 1000 test problems.

  • Scheduling problems which determine the sequence of jobs are one of the Important issues to many industries. This paper deals with a single-machine job sequencing problem which has complex constraints and an objective function. To solve the problem, an expressive constraint description language and an automatic code generator are developed for our scheduling system. The user just needs to describe the scheduling problem using the constraint description language that allows to express both quantitative and qualitative constraints as well as an objective function in real world semantics. Then, a complete scheduling program based on constraint satisfaction technique is automatically generated through the code generator. Advantage of this approach is that models of the scheduling problems are easily developed and maintained because models ore formulated by using the language which reflects real world semantics.
