Contention-based Reservation Protocol Using a Counter for Detecting a Source Conflict in WDM Single-hop Optical Network with Non-equivalent Distance

  • We propose a new channel reservation protocol which can reduce message delay by using a counter for detection of d source conflict in a WDM single-hop network with non-equivalent propagation delay. A source convict occurs when a source node has the right to transmit more than or equal to two messages simultaneously, which are transmitted using different wavelengths. In such a case, the source node has to newly obtain the right to transmit the message. In the proposed protocol, by using a source conflict counter a source node can detect a source conflict before a wave-length assignment is performed. Therefore, the source node can start a procedure to newly obtain the right to transmit the message which cannot be transmitted due to a source conflict. We analyse the throughput performance by taking the effect of a source conflict into account, and show that the approximate analysis and the computer simulated results are close. Also, from computer simulated results, we show that our proposed protocol can reduce mean message delay dramatically without degrading throughput performance as the offered load becomes large.

Optimizing Effective Channel Length to Minimize Short Channel Effects in Sub-50 nm Single/Double Gate SOI MOSFETs

  • In the present work a methodology to minimize short channel effects (SCEs) by modulating the effective channel length is proposed to design 25 nm single and double gate-source/drain underlap MOSFETs. The analysis is based on the evaluation of the ratio of effective channel length to natural/ characteristic length. Our results show that for this ratio to be greater than 2, steeper source/drain doping gradients along with wider source/drain roll-off widths will be required for both devices. In order to enhance short channel immunity, the ratio of source/drain roll-off width to lateral straggle should be greater than 2 for a wide range of source/drain doping gradients.

Performance Analysis of Heat Pump System with Air Source Evaporator and Single Unit Dual Sink Condenser (공기열원 2중히트싱크 열펌프의 성능해석)

  • Floor panel heating system using hot water is the primary heating system of domestic residential building. This paper presents the results of performance analysis of the heat pump system with air source evaporator and single unit dual sink(SUDSk) condenser. The heat exchanger combines two separated condensers into a single condenser and the object of the SUDSk condenser is to release energy to dual sinks, i.e. air for air heating system and water for panel heating system in one single unit. Simulation program is developed for single unit dual source(SUDS) SUDSk heat pump system and some experimental data are obtained and compared with simulation results. Differences of heating capacity and COP in dual source operating mode are 7% and 8% respectively. Simulation results are in good agreement with test results. Therefore, developed program is effectively used for design and performance prediction of dual source dual sink heat pump system with SUDS evaporator and SUDSk condenser.

  • This paper proposes a control method for three-phase voltage-source PWM converters using only a single current sensor in the DC link. A predictive current controller for the voltage-source PWM converter is used so that all phase currents can be reconstructed in a switching period although one or two of active vectors are applied only for a short time. Compensation of the 2 step delays is also included. In this paper single sensor current control using predictive state observer will be discussed, and investigated experimentally.

  • The efficiency and capacity of an air source heat pump system decrease as the ambient temperature drops. One strategy of avoiding the decrease of the efficiency and capacity in air source heat pump system is to switch to another thermal energy source. Water can be a good candidate for the heat source. This paper presents the results of the performance analysis of heat pump system with a single unit dual source(SUDS) evaporator The heat exchanger combines two separated evaporators into a single evaporator and the object of the SUDS evaporator is to recover energy from dual heat sources, i.e. air and water.   • The accurate localization of electrical sources in the brain is one of the most important questions in EEG, especially in the analysis of evoked responses and of epileptiform spike activity. A detailed simulation study of single dipole source estimation based on EEG is given in this paper. The effects of dipole model parameters on single dipole source tracing in EEG are examined in some detail using the Monte Carlo simulation. The error of source localization is found to be greatly influenced by how the electrodes are distributed over the head and the number of them.

  • The evaluation of source potential and sink strength is the generally large and laborious sample size required to adequately assess anyone of the parameters in field-grown sweetpotato. For this purpose we used the rooted single-leaf cuttings with petioles, because the source and sink organs are restricted in this system. The rooted single-leaf cutting of sweetpotato provides a unique source-sink model system, and is established within about 50 days after planting. In this study, the sink potential of sweetpotato tubers was examined based on the expression of genes for starch synthesis (AGPase) and modification (SBEII and GBSSI) in single rooted leaf plant. The gene expression patterns of GBSSI, SBEII and AGPase at various developmental stages and in different types of root tissues presented. These results suggest that the rooted single-rooted method can be used an ideal model system to study physiological and biochemical mechanisms in sweetpotato.

  • This paper presents a current control strategy in the synchronous reference frame for a single-phase PWM converter, which ensures sinusoidal input current control under the distorted source voltage and frequency condition. Given that the distorted source voltage distorts the phase angle for PWM converter control, the input current contains the same harmonics as the source voltage. Aside from the distorted voltage, the variation in source frequency reduces the performance of input current control. To achieve sinusoidal input current control under the distorted source voltage and frequency condition, this paper proposes a compensation strategy of current reference with the distortion component extracted from the phase angle and a detection strategy of frequency variation from the output of a synchronous reference frame phase-lock loop. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed method under the distorted source voltage and frequency condition.

  • In this paper, a method for controlling a single phase PWM AC/DC converter without any voltage sensors is proposed. In this method, the source voltage is estimated by sliding mode observer and input current is synchronized with the estimated source voltage. The source voltage is estimated by current error between the actul and the estimated current. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, a current control system for single phase PWM AC/DC converter without the source voltage sensors is proposed. The sinusoidal input current and unity effective power factor are realised based on the estimated source voltage in the controller. The estimation of source voltage is performed by the reduced-order Luenberger observer using actual currents. The estimated source voltage is used to accomplish unity power factor. The proposed method is proved by experiments.
