  • Using data from Korean Longitudinal Study on Aging (KLoSA), this study examines how continuity and change of marital status is associated with health over time among older women, focusing on the moderating effects of age and parent-child relationships. KLoSA data set has two waves of interviews, and for this study, 2046 women aged 65 and over were selected. To analyze data, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used. The major findings are as follows. First, there was no statistically significant difference in health between continuously married older women and continuously single older women. However, older women who had transition from being married to being single showed lower physical health than continuously married and continuously single older women. Second, there were statistically significant differences in the effect of marital status on mental health according to the age of older women. Older women who had transition from being married to being single showed lower mental health than continuously married elders when older women were younger. Third, contact with children moderated the effect of marital status on physical health. Older women who had transition from being married to being single showed lower physical health than continuously single and continuously married older women when older women had less contact with their children. The findings imply after the loss of marital role, older women's relationship with adult children plays a significant role in promoting health. In conclusion, the findings of this study show the different pathways through which marital status is associated with health for 3 different groups of older women, being continuously single, being continuously married, and making transition from being married to being single.

  • This study constructed a family life education program designed to help divorced parents. The purpose of this research was to develop long term education program for post-divorce adjustment. This program is consisted of 6 sessions aiming for understanding the grief process for adults and the six station of divorce, the recovery through forgiveness, children's response to divorce and coping strategy, the opened mind of parent-child relation, enhancing the self-esteem, the healthy single parent. We expect this program to be helpful in helping divorced parents'post-divorce adjustment, improving parent-child relation and helping future life of divorced parents.

  • This study investigated the relationships among college students' internalizing/externalizing problems, parent-child communication, and college adjustment. The participants were 281 freshmen and sophomores (103 males and 178 females) from a university in Gyeongbuk Province. A self-report survey questionnaire was used to measure parent-child communication, adjustment to college life, and the student's internalizing/externalizing problems. Data were analyzed by t-test, and single and multiple regressions. The results were as follows: (1) The college students' communication with parents was negatively associated with their internalizing/externalizing problems. (2) The college students' communication with parents was positively associated with adjustment to college life. (3) The students' adjustment to college life was negatively associated with their internalizing/externalizing problems. (4) The college students' communication with parents partly or fully exerted indirect effects on the students' internalizing/externalizing problems, mediated by their adjustment to college life.

  • The purpose of this study was to use the Korea Health Panel to determine how the mother's characteristic and household characteristic variables were associated with dental clinic use of children in childhood and adolescence. The logistic regression analysis found that mother's education level was statistically significantly positively correlated with underage child's dental clinic use and children in single-parent family were less likely to use a dental clinic than those in two-parent family. As for dental clinic use by diseases, the higher level of mother's education, the more likely to use a dental clinic due to dental caries and children in single-parent family were less likely to use a dental clinic due to dental caries than those in two-parent family. No difference in dental clinic use due to tooth extraction was found by any of mother's characteristics or household characteristics, probably because age has an absolute impact during the period between milk teeth and permanent teeth. Lastly, mother's education level and household income were significantly positively correlated with dental clinic use due to orthodontics. On the basis of these results, it is necessary to develop a customized strategy reflecting children's growth stages and household characteristics in making a plan for promoting oral health of children and adolescents.

  • This study explored the degree of change in children perceived by single parents and examined the effect of single parents' spending family time and participation of leisure activities on their school-aged children. Hierarchical multiple regression was utilized to analyze data of 1,162 people who responded to the single parent survey collected by the Korea Women's Policy Research Institute in 2018. Results showed that single parents' spending family time and participation of leisure activities influenced positive change on their school-aged children. Implications and suggestions to support single parents' parenting environment are discussed.

  • Purpose: In this study, we analyzed visual acuity of children according to the rearing of the type of parents. Methods: We have done a comparative analysis about before and after of corrected visual acuity according to the wearing actual conditions with the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010 document. Results: Visual acuity before correction of twoparent family's children was 0.91, single parent family's children was 0.83, grandparents family's children was 0.77 in low income and twoparent family's children was 0.80, single parent family's children was 0.77, grandparents family's children was 0.50 in lower middle income. Conclusions: In the rearing of low-income children, the lack of attention to visual acuity management according to the type of parents leads to a failing of visual acuity in myopia. The role of the parents is very important during this time period, so it is necessary to provide social interest giving decline prevention of vision.

  • Usually time synchronization is performed after routing tree is constructed. This thesis proposes a time synchronization algorithm combined with single-flooding routing tree construction algorithm in a single path. TSRA (Time Synchronization Routing Algorithm) uses routing packets to construct a routing tree. Two types of time information are added to the routing packet: one is the packet receiving time, and the other is the packet sending time. Time offset and transmission time-delay between parent node and child node could be retrieved from the added time information using LTS (Lightweight Time Synchronization) algorithm. Then parent node sends the time offset and transmission time to children nodes and children nodes can synchronize their time to the parent node time along the routing tree. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared to the TPSN (Timing-sync Protocol for Sensor Networks) which is known to have high accuracy using NS2 simulation tool. The simulation result shows that the accuracy of time synchronization is comparable to TPSN, the synchronization time of all sensor nodes is faster than TPSN, and the energy consumption is less than TPSN.

  • This study examines the overall structure among family relationship, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and delinquency of adolescent in single-parent families using structural equation modeling to provide theoretical basis preventable juvenile delinquency. The data of 516 middle and high school students in the research into the promotion policies on children and adolescents' mental health(2012) by the National Youth Policy Institute analysed. The result of this study are: (1) family relationship affects self-efficacy, self-esteem, and delinquency of adolescent, (2) family relationship affects delinquency of adolescent by the mediation of self-esteem, (3) self-efficacy doesn't affect delinquency of adolescent. This study suggests the necessity of both intervention as well as the development implementation of practical methods for the prevention of delinquency of adolescent.

  • This study used latent class analysis to identify heterogeneous subgroups with respect to health condition among adolescents. We also examined associations between latent classes and verified to determine how the patterns of health condition relate to social capital. This study used data from Korean Survey on the Rights of Children and Youth in 2015, which consists of 6,912 from middle and high school students. The findings are as follows. Latent class analysis revealed a three-class solution. Results indicated that family social capital and school capital significantly verified to the above latent classes all family type. But, community social capital not significantly predicted to the above latent classes only single parent families. Policy implications for improving the health condition of adolescents are discussed.

  • The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, family support has the greatest influence on school adjustment flexibility, and the following is family function. Second, the effect of family protection factors on the interest in the school was found to have a statistically significant effect on the relationship between parents and family support. Third, the factors affecting the attitude toward the achievement of the family, the relationship with the parents, the family support, and the family function were not found to be influential. Fourth, as a result of examining the factors influencing the compliance with school norms, it was found that the better the family function, the better the adherence to school norms. In conclusion, the relationship between parents and their parents was significant. This was to know how important parental relationship, family function, and family support are in the adjustment of single parent families.
