유한 차분 모델을 이용한 알루미나의 열피로 수명 예측 (Thermal Fatigue Life Prediction of Alumina by Finite Difference Model)

  • Thermal history and thermal stress of alumina specimen, which occured from thermal shock process, were calculated by finite difference method. Stress intensity factor and crack growth in cyclic thermal fatigue were calculated from single thermal shock temperature history and thermal stress. Cyclic thermal life were estimated by bending strength after cyclic thermal shock under critical thermal shock temperature. Calculated stress intensity factor was compared with real experimental thermal fatigue life of specimen. Fatigue life until critical stress intensity factor and real experimental result were comparable.

  • Orthorhombic $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals are fabricated using the cost-effective solid-state single crystal growth (SSCG) method; their dielectric and piezoelectric properties are also characterized. Measurements show that (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals have an electromechanical coupling factor ($k_{33}$) higher than 0.83, piezoelectric charge constant ($d_{33}$) of about 400 [pC/N], and piezoelectric voltage constant ($g_{33}$) higher than 50 [${\times}10^{-3}Vm/N$]. The transition temperature ($T_{OT}$) of the (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals between orthorhombic and tetragonal phases is also observed to be about $61^{\circ}C$. Because their electromechanical coupling factor ($k_{33}$) and piezoelectric voltage constant ($g_{33}$) are higher than those of soft PZT ceramics, it is expected that (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals can be used as "lead-free" piezoelectric materials in many piezoelectric applications.

  • Rhombohedral $Ba(Ti_{0.92}Zr_{0.08})O_3$ single crystals are fabricated using the cost-effective solid-state single crystal growth (SSCG) method; their dielectric and piezoelectric properties are also characterized. Measurements show that (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.92}Zr_{0.08})O_3$ single crystals have an electromechanical coupling factor ($k_{33}$) higher than 0.85, piezoelectric charge constant ($d_{33}$) of about 950 [pC/N], and piezoelectric voltage constant ($g_{33}$) higher than 40 [${\times}10^{-3}Vm/N$]. Especially the $d_{33}$ of (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.92}Zr_{0.08})O_3$ single crystals was by about six times higher than that of their ceramics. Because their electromechanical coupling factor ($k_{33}$) and piezoelectric voltage constant ($d_{33}$, $g_{33}$) are higher than those of soft PZT ceramics, it is expected that rhombohedral (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.92}Zr_{0.08})O_3$ single crystals can be used as "lead-free" piezoelectric materials in many piezoelectric applications such as actuator, sensor, and transducer.

Platelet Derived Growth Factor-B and Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor-2 Polymorphisms in Gall Bladder Cancer

  • Gall bladder cancer (GBC) is a gastro-intestinal cancer with high prevalence among north Indian women. Platelet derived growth factor-B (PDGFB) and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) may play roles in the etiology of GBC through the inflammation-hyperplasia-dysplasia-carcinoma pathway. To study the association of PDGFB and HER2 polymorphisms with risk of GBC, 200 cases and 300 controls were considered. PDGFB +286A>G and +1135A>C polymorphisms were investigated with an amplification refractory mutation system and the HER2 $Ile^{655}Val$ polymorphism by restriction fragment length polymorphism. Significant risk associations for PDGFB +286 GG (OR=5.25) and PDGFB +1135 CC (OR=3.19) genotypes were observed for GBC. Gender wise stratification revealed susceptibility for recessive models of PDGFB +1135A>C (OR=3.00) and HER2 $Ile^{655}Val$ (OR=2.52) polymorphisms among female GBC cases. GBC cases with gall stones were predisposed to homozygous +286 GG and +1135 CC genotypes. Significant risk associations were found for ACIle (OR=1.48), GAVal (OR=1.70), GAIle (OR=2.00) haplotypes with GBC cases and GCIle haplotype with female GBC cases (OR=10.37, P=<0.0001). Pair-wise linkage disequilibrium revealed negative associations among variant alleles. On multi-dimensional reduction analysis, a three factor model revealed significant gene-gene interaction for PDGFB +286A>G, PDGFB +1135A>C and HER2 Ile165Val SNPs with GBC. Protein-protein interaction showed significant association of PDGFB and HER2 with the epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway.

The Oscillation Frequency of CML-based Multipath Ring Oscillators

  • A novel phase interpolator (PI) based linear model of multipath ring oscillator (MPRO) is described in this paper. By modeling each delay cell as an ideal summer followed by a single pole RC filter, the oscillation frequency is derived for a 4-stage differential MPRO. It is analytically proved that the oscillation frequency increases with the growth of the forwarding factor ${\alpha}$, which is also confirmed quantitatively through simulation. Based on the proposed model, it is shown that the power to frequency ratio keeps constant as the speed increases. Running at the same speed, a 4-stage MPRO can outperform the corresponding single-stage ring oscillator (SPRO) with 27% power saving, making MPRO with a large forwarding factor ${\alpha}$ an attractive option for lower power applications.

Theoretical gravity studies on roles of convection in crystal growth of $Hg_2Cl_2$-Xe by physical vapor transport under normal and high gravity environments

  • Particular interest in the role of convection in vapor crystal growth has arisen since some single crystals under high gravity acceleration of $10g_0$ appear considerably larger than those under normal gravity acceleration ($1g_0$). For both ${\Delta}T=60\;K$ and 90 K, the mass flux increases by a factor of 3 with increasing the gravity acceleration from $1g_0$ up to $10g_0$. On the other hand, for ${\Delta}T=30\;K$, the flux is increased by a factor of 1.36 for the range of $1g_0{\leq}g{\leq}10g_0$. The maximum growth rates for $1g_0$, $4g_0$, $10g_0$ appear approximately in the neighborhood of y = 0.5, and the growth rates shows asymmetrical patterns, which indicate the occurrence of either one single or more than one convective cell. The maximum growth rate for $10g_0$ is nearly greater than that for $1g_0$ by a factor of 2.0 at $P_B=20\;Torr$. For three different gravity levels of $1g_0$, $4g_0$ and $10g_0$, the maximum growth rates are greater than the minimum rates by a factor of nearly 3.0, based on $P_B=20\;Torr$. The mass flux increases with increasing the gravity acceleration, for $1g_0{\leq}g_y{\leq}10g_0$, and decreases with increasing the partial pressure of component B, xenon (Xe), $P_B$. The $|U|_{max}$ is directly proportional to the gravity acceleration for $20\;Torr{\leq}P_B{\leq}300\;Torr$. As the partial pressure of $P_B$ (Torr) decreases from 300 Torr to 20 Torr, the slopes of the $|U|_{max}s$ versus the gravity accelerations increase from 0.1 sec to 0.17 sec. The mass flux of $Hg_2Cl_2$ is exponentially decayed with increasing the partial pressure of component B, $P_B$ (Torr) from 20 Torr up to 300 Torr.

  • An experimental investigation of the effect of composite patching repair was conducted to characterize the fatigue crack growth behavior in thick A16061-T6 (6mm) panels with single bonded patch by fiber reinforced composite patch. Four patch lengths and no patch plate were examined. An analytical procedure, involving three-dimensional finite element method having three layers to model cracked aluminum plate, epoxy by adhesive and composite Patch, is calculated the stress intensity factors. From the calculated stress intensity factors, the fatigue crack growth rates are obtained. At the single patching type, different fatigue crack growth ratios through the palate thickness were investigated by using the experimental and analytical results. The results demonstrated that there was a definite variation in fatigue life depending on the size of composite patch. While crack reached the patch end, retardation of crack growth was also revealed in the bonded repair.

  • Orthodontic tooth movement is a unique process which tooth, solid material is moving into hard tissue, bone. Orthodontic force in general provides the strain to the PDL and alveolar bone, which in turn generates the interstitial fluid flow(in detail, fluid flow in PDL and canaliculi). As a results of matrix strain, periodontal ligament cells and bone cells are deformed, releasing variety of cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors. These molecules lead to the orthodontic tooth movement(OTM). In these inflammation and tissue remodeling sites, all of the cells could closely communicate with one another, flowing the information for tissue remodeling. To accelerate the rate of OTM in future, local injection of single growth factor(GF) or a combination of multiple GFs in the periodontal tissues might intervene to stimulate the rate of OTM. Corticotomy is effective and safe to accelerate OTM.

  • Purpose: Most gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) have gain-of-function mutations of the KIT or the platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA) genes, but approximately $10\%$ of the GISTs are wild types for both the KIT and the PDGFRA genes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility that epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutation might be responsible for the pathogenesis of GIST. Materials and Methods: We analyzed the EGFR gene in 60 GISTs for the detection of somatic mutations by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP), and DNA sequencing in exon 18, 19, and 21 encoding the kinase domain. Results: The SSCP analysis revealed no evidence of EGFR mutations in exon 18, 19, and 21 in GISTs. Conclusion: The data indicate that the EGFR gene may not be mutated in human GIST and suggest that therapies targeting the mutated EGFR gene products might not be useful in the treatment of GISTs.
