A WINTERING TEST OF THE CRAWL-HELD ANCHOVY (축양 멸치의 월동시험)

  • Since no medium-sized anchovies for skipjack baits are caught during the winter season in the Korean waters, the demand for the live baits in the winter season is met with crawl-stocked anchovies. Authors conducted a test on the wintering of the anchovies which were caught in the early November and acclimated for 22days in a crawl. The wintering crawl was kept in the inlet near Chungmu City, which is situated in the southern coast of Korea, for 4 months through December 1, 1971 to March 31, 1972. 1. The lowest water temperature of $7.2^{\circ}C$ recorded on March 1, caused no significant mortality of the wintering anchovies. However, two operations, moving the crawl and repacling the crawl webbing, brought about a considerable mortality. The mortality of the anchovies, due to the crawl moving to the wintering place two kilometers away from the transient acclimating place, amounted to 1.5 percent in 9 days following the crawl moving. The replacement of the fouled crawl webbing with a new one also caused a mortality amounting to 1.7 percent in 5 days. 2. It is judged that the favorable wintering waters lie in the south and southeast coasts of Keoje Island, the south and southwest coast of Chungmu City, coasts around Namhae Island, and the east coast of Dolsan Island. Jinhae Bay is not suited for the wintering because of its low water temperature in winter 3. The wintering anchovies wvere fed, once a day through the test period, with 4 kg of finely minced fresh anchovy for 57days in the early period, and with 2kg of compound pellet fish food for the rest of the period. Fatness coefficient of the wintering anchovies showed a slight increase in the latter half of the period.

Enhancement of Impact Resistance of Layered Steel Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete Beam (층 구조를 갖는 강섬유 보강 고강도 콘크리트 보의 충격저항성능 향상)

  • The collapse of concrete structures by extreme loads such as impact, explosion, and blast from terrorist attacks causes severe property damage and human casualties. Concrete has excellent impact resistance to such extreme loads in comparison with other construction materials. Nevertheless, existing concrete structures designed without consideration of the impact or blast load with high strain rate are endangered by those unexpected extreme loads. In this study, to improve the impact resistance, the static and impact behaviors of concrete beams caste with steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) with 0~1.5% (by volume) of 30 mm long hooked steel fibers were assessed. Test results indicated that the static and impact resistances, flexural strength, ductility, etc., were significantly increased when higher steel fiber volume fraction was applied. In the case of the layered concrete (LC) beams including greater steel fiber volume fraction in the tensile zone, the higher static and impact resistances were achieved than those of the normal steel fiber reinforced concrete beam with an equivalent steel fiber volume fraction. The impact test results were also compared with the analysis results obtained from the single degree of freedom (SDOF) system anaysis considering non-linear material behaviors of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The analysis results from SDOF system showed good agreement with the experimental maximum deflections.

PRELIMINARY TEST ON THE CREEL HOLDING OF THE ANCHOVY, ENGRAULIS JAPONICA (멸치 축양의 예비시험)

  • Preliminary creel-holding test of live anchovies which are to be used as bait for the skipjact fishery, was conducted on the fish caught by set net and lift net. They were held in the creels constructed with bamboo frame and minnow netting, during the period of Oct. 24-Nov. 28 in 1972. If was found that the survival rate of the creel-held anchovies varied by the size of fish, the towed distance and speed of fish-carrying creel in which the fish were accomodated after catchi. 1. The survival rate of the medium size anchovies, 7.8-9.6cm in length and 4.6-4.8 g in weight, was $70-92\%$ during the holding period of 20-35 days. Whereas, only $16\%$ of juvenile anchovies, 5.3cm in length and 1.0 g in weight, were survived for 19 hours after catch. 2. During the time of transport, the farther and faster the creel containing fish were towed, the less fish were survived in the subsequent holding period. 3. Though both the set net and lift net could be fairly used to catch live anchovy, no decision between these two gears could be made in this experiment to determine the superiorness for the subsequent survival rate.

Study on the Quality of Apple Dressing Sauce Added with Pine Mushroom(Tricholoma matsutake Sing) and Chitosan (송이버섯과 키토산을 첨가한 사과 드레싱 소스의 품질에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to develop the apple dressing sauce added pine mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake Sing.) and chitosan which has excellent functionality and scent. An apple dressing sauce with pine added to it was manufactured and tested for sensuality and also for quality changes during storage. The sensory test of the sauces added pine mushroom, the apple dressing sauce added pine mushroom and the apple dressing added pine mushroom and chitosan scored high points. The chromaticity of the apple dressing sauce with pine mushroom compared to the pine didn't show much difference in the L, a, b values and also in the sauces added pine and chitosan, the apple dressing showed less change. At $4^{\circ}C$ and 25, the viscosity of the sauces with pine mushroom showed a small increase in all samples as the storage duration went on. At $4^{\circ}C$, a continuous decrease of the pH was seen in all of the apple dressing sauce added with pine mushroom on storages and from 30 days the pH seemed to start increasing slightly. During storage, the titratable acidity in all samples of the apple dressing with pine mushroom at $4^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\cird}C$ seemed to some what increase as the term went on but there was no significant differences to the acidity. At $4^{\circ}C$, the total viable cells in the apple dressing with pine mushroom showed $1.7{\times}10^{2}CFU/g$ which was the lowest in the beginning of storage period but as the storage period grew longer the total viable cells increased in all of the samples.

Effect of Leaf mold on Cd Uptake in paddy Soil by Rice Plant (답토양(沓土壤)에서 부엽토(腐葉土)가 수도(水稻)의 Cd흡수(吸收)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • To evaluate the effect of organic matter on phytotoxicity and uptake of Cd by rice plant, paddy rice was cultivated by pot test under the flooded condition by treating a sing concentration of 25ppm Cd and different amounts of leaf mold. The phytotoxicity of rice plant by Cd and the content of Cd in the vegetative rice plant reduced by increasing the content of organic matter. The content of Cd in the vegetative parts of rice plant decreased in the order of sheath, stem, leaf blade, and brown rice. The content of Cd in brown rice was 0.59 ppm below 1 ppm, a criterion level of contaminated rice, when paddy rice was cultivated under the condition flooded condition through the whole period of cultivation. And that of Cd in brown rice could be controlled until 0.14ppm such as the similar level producing at non-contaminated paddy soil when applied 200g of lead mold/8kg of dried soil and 25ppm of Cd to the flooded paddy soil.

  • The mycelial mass of K. mutabilis greatly increased at pH 5.5~6.0 but decreased pH 6.0. The linear mycelial growth wsa mostly supported on sawdust of Quercus accutisima and the mycelial density wsa high on sawdust of Q. accutisima and corn cob. Much mycelial distribution could be showen in ray parenchyma cell and ray tracheid. Severe degradation of ray parenchyma cell was found but little degradation of ray tracheid cell was found. The dry weight loss wsa 5.9% after agar-block test. And the pH wsa acidified from 6.07 to 4.31 and hot water extractives was decreased after degradation of Q. serrata sawdust by K. mutabilis.

Determination of individual sugars in different varieties of persian grape using Near Infrared spectroscopy

  • Glucose, fructose and sucrose being the main sugars that can be found in natural fruit juice. Many instrumental methods, such as GC, LC, electrochemical or spectrometric methods provide information about both the total content of sugars and the specific concentration of each carbohydrate[1]. The simplicity of sample handling and measurement in the near IR(NIR) wavelength region, which allows the use of long pathlength, optical glass cells and optical fibers, makes NIR a good alternative for sugar determination [2]. In the present study, six varieties of persian grapes were harvested at intervals through august to october and analysed for sugars by NIR. The results were processed by principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) analysis. Sample juice was prepared by squeezing through gauze from crashed grape. This solution was treated by zinc ferrocyanide prior to analysis in order to eliminate colored compounds and all optically active nonsugar substances. For glucose and fructose the most characteristic wavelengths were 1456nm corresponding to the first harmonic O-H stretching and the second at 2062nm corresponding to O-H stretching and deformation; secondary characteristic combination bands were also seen at 2265 nm (O-H and C-C stretching) and at 2240 nm (C-H and C-C stretching). However these spectra were taken over a wavelength range from 1100-2500nm at room temperature of 25-$30^{\circ}C$. To test the accuracy of the described procedure, samples of six varieties of grape were analysed by the proposed NIR and a standard method[2]. Good agreement were found between these two sets of the results. To perform the recovery studies , samples of grape juices previously analysed by the proposed method, were spiked with known amounts of each individual sugars and then analysed again. Relative standard deviations varied from 1.4 to 1.8% for six independent measurements of individual and total sugar concentration. In the analysis of real and synthetic samples, precise and accurate results were obtained , providing accuracy errors lower than 1.9% in all cases. Average recoveries of ${97}{\pm}{4%}$ for total sugar and between ${95}{\pm}{5%}$ and ${99}{\pm}{2%}$ for sing1e sugars demonstrate the applicability of the methodology developed to the direct analysis of grape Juice.

Studies on the Development of a New Strain No. 705 of Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Sing. (양송이 신계통(新系統) 705호(號) 육성(育成) 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Two hundred forty seven isolates obtained from 21 white or cream-colored mushroom strain by single spore isolation or multiple spore germination were compared type of mycelial growth in vitro and yield trial in a preliminary test. As a result of these tests, four isolates were selected and compared the yields of sporophores with those of 505 and 702 which are leading strains in mushroom production. The newly selected isolate No. 705 showed high yield of mushroom with good quality as described below. 1. The isolate No. 705 produced 13% more mushrooms than those from the strain No. 703. Both produced creamy type of mushroom. The isolate No. 705 showed high blanching yield ratio and moderate resistance to Mycogone perniciosa. 2. For the isolate No. 705 obtained by multiple spore germinations, the optimum temperature of mycelial growth was $25^{\circ}C$, also the mycelial growth was better at $15^{\circ}C$ than others, optimum moisture content of the compost was 65% and optimum casing soil pH for mycelial growth was 7.8. 3. The new isolate No. 705 produced more number of sporophores and the ratio between parts of sporophores were intermediate of those from the strains No. 505 and No. 703.

Estimation of Hydraulic Parameters from Slug, Single Well Pumping and Step-drawdown Tests (순간수위 변화시험, 단공양수시험 및 단계양수시험을 통한 수리상수 추정연구)

  • The aim in this study is used to develop the remediation technologies for contaminated ground water. Slug, single well pumping and step-drawdown tests have been used to obtain hydraulic parameter estimates in the field. Slug tests yield hydraulic conductivity values using the Bouwer and Rice and C-B-P analysis methods. The mean and median hydraulic conductivity values of Bouwer and Rice method are $4.48{\times}10^{-3}$ and $1.16{\times}10^{-3}cm/sec$, respectively. On the other hand, C-B-P method gave mean and median hydraulic conductivity values of $2.37{\times}10^{-3}$ and $7.09{\times}10^{-4}cm/sec$, respectively. These analyses show a trend for the Bouwer and Rice method to yield lower hydraulic conductivity values in low permeability zones of granite in the study area. Sing well pumping test data were calculated through type curve in GW7, GW12 and MW9 wells. It could be interpreted that the differences of hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity values between GW7 and GW12, MW9 is related with fault clays and fractures in the bedrock among the wells. Step-drawdown tests were carried out in the KDPW1 and KDPW2 wells. The hydraulic parameter of KDPW1 and KDPW2 showed very litter difference between the values. The study of hydraulic parameter estimates can be used to purify in contaminated groundwater.

MICROLEAKAGE OF 2-STEP ADHESIVE SYSTEMS IN DIAMOND-PREPARED CAVITY (다이아몬드 기구로 삭제한 와동에서 2단계 접착제의 미세누출 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal microleakage of different 2-step adhesive systems in Class V cavities prepared with different diamond points. Forty Class V cavities were prepared with two different (coarse or fine) diamond points on cervical third of extracted molars. The occlusal and gingival margin of cavities was located in enamel and dentin, respectively. They were divided into one of four equal groups (n = 10) and ; Group 1-prepared with coarse diamond point (EX-41), restored with Single Bond and Z 250, Group 2-prepared with fine diamond piont (TF-21F), restored with Sing)e Bond and Z 250, Group 3-prepared with coarse diamond point (EX-41), restored with Clearfil SE Bond and Clearfil AP-X, Group 4-prepared with fine diamond point (TF-21F), restored with Clearfil SE Bond and Clearfil AP-X. Specimens were thermocycled, immersed in a 2% methylene blue solution for 24 hours, and bisected longitudinally. They were observed leakages at enamel and dentinal margins. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon signed ranked test. In this study, marginal microleakage or Single Bond was not affected by type of diamond points. But Clearfil SE Bond showed higher marginal microleakage at both enamel and dentinal margin when Class V cavity was prepared with coarse diamond point.
