  • KIST/CARES reliability analysis program was used to calculate failure probabilities of piston pin and poppet valve. The 4-point bending test was performed on Sin/Hip Si3N4 for obtaining material parameters such as m, $\sigma$o, and KB, and the finite element analysis was performed using MSC/NASTRAN for obtaining stress distribution. The calculated failure probability of piston pin was lower than 10-6 and the failure probaility of poppet valve was greater than 0.95.

  • MOR test and concentric ring test were performed to evaluate the failure probability of sin/hip Si3N4 under uniaxial and biaxial stress state, respectively. Their failure probabilities were analized with KARA program based on Weibull PIA model and Batdorf model with 5 criteria, and they were compared with experiments. PIA model is in best accordance with experiments in higher fracture strength regions, especially for Pf 0.3. But in lower fracture strength region, none of the models predicts the failure probabilities appropriately.

  • Polypenol oxidase activity in the petals of Chysanthemum indicum var. indica Max. (f.sin-dong-a) and the leaves of Artemisia vulgaris var. indica Max was estimated by means of Warburg's manometric method. The browning reaction in owing to the oxidation of chlorogenic acid with polyphenol oxidase.

  • This study was designed to evaluate the mechanism by which reactive nitrogen intermediates (RNI) induced the cytotoxicity of human doparminergic neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. 3-Morpholino-sydnonimine (SIN-l), a donor of peroxynitrite (ONOO) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a donor of nitric oxide (NO) induced cell detachment and apoptotic death, as characterized by chromatin condensation, the ladder pattern fragmentation of genomic DNA and morphological nuclear changes. SIN-l also induced the activation of caspase 3-like protease in a time-dependent manner. Exogenous antioxidants, such as reduced glutathione (GSH), N-acetylcysteine (NAC), and selenium protected the cells from apoptotic death and reduced the activation of caspase 3-like protease by SIN-1. Furthermore, SIN-l directly reduced the intracellular levels of glutathione. Taken together, these data suggested that RNI including NO and peroxynitrite decrease the concentration of intracellular antioxidant such as GSH, which lead to the apoptotic death of human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells.

  • The purpose of this paper is to research the estimations of the indoor natural temperature in a case of the earth sheltered space and the 1st basement room in comparison with a conventional housing. The result of this study can be summerized as follows: The natural temperature of the earth sheltered house Summer : $${\theta}es=27.0+1.65sin(2{\pi}/24{\cdot}T-1.34)$$ Winter : $${\theta}ew=11.5+1.15sin(2{\pi}/24{\cdot}T-1.61)$$ The natural temperature of the 1st basement space Summer : $${\theta}us=25.5+1.00sin(2{\pi}/24{\cdot}T-1.72)$$ Winter : $${\theta}uw=13.9+1.10sin(2{\pi}/24{\cdot}T-2.29)$$ From the results of the stated above, we can calculate the cooling and heating load in the earth sheltered house and the underground space exactly and easily at Taejeon City.

  • 'Ga Mi Yung Sin Whan' is a Chinese patent medicine, which is used for a tachycardia, anemia, amnesia, ecstacy, and so on in Korea. This medicine consists of 12 kinds of powdered crude drugs. For the identification of individual ingredients in such powdery mixtures, microscopic method may advantageously be used as it requires only a small amount of specimens. In this paper, the effectiveness of this method is exemplified by the identification of the ingredients in Ga Mi Yeong Sin Whan which contains 12 powdered crude drug ingredients.

  • Conventional multilayer feedforward artificial neural networks are very effective in dealing with spatial problems. To deal with problems with time dependency, some kinds of memory have to be built in the processing algorithm. In this paper we show how the newly proposed Serial Input Neuron (SIN) convolutional decoders can be derived. As an example, we derive the SIN decoder for rate code with constraint length 3. The SIN is tested in Gaussian channel and the results are compared to the results of the optimal Viterbi decoder. A SIN approach to decode convolutional codes is presented. No supervision is required. The decoder lends itself to pleasing implementations in hardware and processing codes with high speed in a time. However, the speed of the current circuits may set limits to the codes used. With increasing speeds of the circuits in the future, the proposed technique may become a tempting choice for decoding convolutional coding with long constraint lengths.
